Hello,

after some time my ME just wont work. At the wiki page i found that, what i think is what happens to me all the time:

After you reach 550 MB of pagefile (see the Task Manager in Windows) the
game may crash or lead to loop graphic sequences. You will need to
reboot your system or manually clean the pagefile. This bug is caused by
nVidia graphic cards and Realtek audio card. One solution is to run the
game in window mode and disable music and speech.

ok so they suggest either restart PC (every 30min or so it's kinda....annoying i mean wtf restart the pc coz 1 game is badly programmed ? -.- but the other solution is "manually clean the pagefile" so i googled but didnt find anything accurate, and i don't want to break something :D so anyone can tell me how to do it or how to fix this bug entirely (i don't think it's possible is it?)

In case it does matter ( i don't think so, coz my PC is pretty new :D) my system:

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Processor 3.20 GHz
4 GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series
Win 7 64 bit

Would appreciate help

Yours Rauporn

Have you eliminated all other possible causes for freezes? How hot is your processor under stress?

well something with processor or sth can't be, because that problem ONLY occurs while playing Mass Effect, even new and hardware hungry games don't crash, but only Mass Effect, a rather old game... I mean sure i don't know if that is the problem, but i mean after a restart the game works for like 30minutes and then suddenly crashes and yeah dunno what else it could be, but ofc i take every suggestion, coz i really like the game but that's just sucky...

hmmm ok I'm not so sure anymore, as I see today sometimes the game crashes earlier, sometimes it takes longer, but i don't really know what to do -.- . Suddenly the game just freezes, 5 sec after the screen becomes black and i have to push the restart button on my pc becuase nothing else will work. I play on 1.02 Patch btw. It really drives me crazy coz it's basically the first game which i really like but ****s me up so badly and i can't fix this by myself AAAARRGGGHHH

Yup similar problem here and created a post about it. And no the problem is not temp's ive tested that out with counters. The next person who suggests that the problem is wtih the system reqs is seriously gonna get flamed. If you don't know how to fix the problem, don't suggest some bullcrap about "oh check your case maybe the fan opening isnt big enough so if shepard farts ingame the fan hole isnt big enough so your computer will overheat and die". Please, you either have a solution or you don't, no have assed your system isnt good enough replies.

Sorry, I'm just frustrated of this forum crap I've been getting from EA and now im seeing it here.

hm new theory, it could be about the graphic card, i've got a ATI Radeon HD 4800 like i said above, but I installed the newest drivers so maybe i need an older one? but wouldn't know which one, or maybe i can fix this otherwise but dunno how....any suggestions?

Try setting the Affinity of MassEffect.exe to just one core in Task Manager. If it won't freeze, then it's a bad multiprocessing bug in ME (aka UE). Though, it could be triggered by other HW problems or SW/HW incompatibilities.

Also leave Windows Media Player playing some music in the background. If game freezes, but music resumes to play, then the problem is somewhere around the graphics. Not limited to this.

ok guys i have been in your shoes for a bit now with mass effect as i know that its not my hardware. i have figured out something that so far is working for me and the game hasnt crashed or frozen my pc. this fix will work for you assuming you have an nvidia card as that is what i am using a gtx 480.

1) go to your nvidia control panel (right click on your desktop is how im getting there)

2) Manage 3d settings

3) program settings Tab

4) click add (add the exe in the game directory)

Steam\\steamapps\\common\\mass effect\\Binaries

or

\\mass effect\\Binaries

5) max pre-rendered frames set to 0

powermanagement mode - set the prefer maximum performance

threaded optimization - set to off (im almost sure this is mainly what was the problem with some of you guys)

6) now if you want to override any application settings like antialiasing feel free to do it as i have all mine maxed out being that i have the gtx 480 and i assume most cards above a gtx260 can handle those settings also. but for the most part i do beleive the stuff in step 5 should fix the random crashing and computer lock ups. let me know how well it works for you guys. take it easy.

Few ideas:

Try Windows XP compatibility with the MassEffect.exe

And set MassEffect.exe to 32bit compatibility

550 MB out of page file... correct me if I'm wrong, but ME (or any other application) wouldn't need ANY of it with an appropriate amount of RAM. And it turns out that Rauporn has more than enough Ram.

I remember having to increase the size of the page file in order to fix a crashing problem with Global Agenda running out of RAM (if running on a 32 bit system).

It seems that ME is doing something wrong here. It shouldn't be using so much. Have you tried cleaning the game cache and all that?

Sorry I can't provide a better solution, I really can't think of anything truly useful right now, your best shot right now seems to be phoenix's previous post.

It might also help to disable the option that allows the page file to automatically allocate the size, and manually set a good amount, say, 4 GB? Might be worth doing and seeing what happens.
