It's the first fight where you really need to focus your attention on all characters in your party and how they are positioned. Make sure that Alistair (if he is your tank) taunts, and keep health high enough on the tank to survive being lifted up in the air by the ogre.

Ah...the ogre...yeah, hardest early fight. I had no way to taunt or pull aggro at the time, so the damn thing kept running after my squishy NPC mage. Plus I was still learning all the combat tricks, which made it harder...but I still mangaged to fell it on Normal.Paralyse definitely helps.
The difference between a very tough fight and a ridiculously easy one is often if you have gotten the right spells on your mages. It takes a while to realize which the best spells are, but as a general rule, spells that freeze/paralyze/halt your enemies are extremely useful. And Mana Clash is simply insanely good against enemy mages.

Agreed! And if you're on your first run through...and aren't playing a mage...and want to get on with the game instead of reading what all the skills do and learn about tactics...chances are the ogre will pound you into a fleshy puddle.
I still haven't done a good portion of what is available to mages, including Mana Clash.

It took me two plays before I discovered Mana Clash, I have to admit. It's insane really. More often than not, it's just an instant death to an enemy mage, maybe you need an arrow or two or some staff shots to finnish them off.

There hasn't been anything quite so heartpounding as opening that door for the first time and seeing that beast waiting for you at the top of the Tower. What an adrenaline rush.

Normal in DA:O is equivalent to hard in most other games. Easy was equivalent to normal but the last patch made it even easier, so there's quite a gap between the difficulty levels now. Despite being a veteran gamer (22 years of PC gaming and counting...) and a former games journalist, I still prefer easy (although I have completed it on normal). You're certainly not alone.
LOL and I thought I was just getting better....seriously, I use Easy to get through the Fade fast in DA:O and I did note that it's like two or three swings and the enemy is down.
