I know I saw a post that covered this extensively but I can't find it now using the search function. Basically I am looking for a good load out for gear for an AW/BM specilization. If anyone can link me to the thread, I'd appreciate it. If not, I'll happily take advice here, though I hate to ask since I know it's been done.

I just got the BM spec by the way, level 14 and getting ready to battle the High Dragon outside the Urn. Right now, I'm really not using heavy armor, but rather lighter equipment that gives bonuses like the Reaper's Vestments. Not sure if this is the right way to go? As I am early in the game, I have only the first set of armor from Wade. I am letting companions use that. Just not real sure if I am doing it the right way. Should I really be going for uber-heavy stuff?

TIA.

Oh, p.s. Play style is; cast a crushing prison, maybe a fireball or mass paralysis. Then buff up with Miasma, combat warrior and shield buffs, then go melee. I have Leliana slinging arrows, Morrigan dealing damage, and Wynn healing up everyone.

Generally, I wait to hit the dragons after all the main quests are completed, Wade has made my armors, and I am closer to 20th lvl; not 14th. Dragons are fairly resiliant, and shrug off a lot of spell effects.

Do you mean Lifegiver? That and the Key to the City are a ways off yet as I haven't begun the Dwarven stuff. I can run some money missions to earn my way up to Andruil's Blessing. Was sort of thinking about doing that anyways. As for Wade's, I had equipped it, but my overall defense dropped way down when I did that. I can see it for my the Dragon specifically. But is it the best armor overall for the character?

Sorry, couldn't resists taking a shot at the Dragon. :) Oddly enough, I was able to take it out first try. Took a good while, and my main charcater was down. But with Leliana letting fly with Ice Arrows, Morrigan freezing it's butt continuously and Wynn healing, we got it. Nice haul!

I like to go to Orzammar fairly early to get the Key to the City, then leave without doing anything in the deep roads.

You could solo by casting that hex that doesn't allow them to heal on anyone who is outhealing you and drink lyrium if you need to cast the hex again....  You wouldn't need to run any of the mana draining BM things so you could operate as a full caster though maybe the runes would click off when you sheath?

Just speculating I have not much experience in game..

warden commander set is good to. that would be my second choice and its free if you have the dlc. if you use heavy or massive armor your fatigue is going to be pretty high but i heard using blood magic fatigue doesnt matter. if that the case id say go with wades massive dragon scale. you can get it after defeating the high dragon. and if you keep your distance from the dragon he is really easy to solo on any difficulty. i done it with a level 16 aw/bm using staff and reapers vestments. good luck

Reaper's Vestments is what I was sporting. I went ahead and got the Felon's Coat before commissioning the next set of Drake's Armor. Then I'll get the Dragon's Plate too. For now, my total defense is 137 with the Felon's Coat so I'm happy enough with that.

I whacked the Archdemon using Wades armour and Leliana wearing the Felon's Coat. His nasty, smelly breath had virtually no impact on me and I took him down with just my spells and Leliana plinking him. I'd lost 2 members of my party by this stage. Wearing massive armour is as good as using Taunt. You'll be fatigued, but you're virtually unstoppable. If the battle looks dodgy just bung on some massive armour. The fatigue never bothered me and it was somewhere in the 70s. I also let the sheathing animation play itself out, never really any problems. You can tank and spell while the rest of your party causes mayhem. It's only worth getting the first 2 skills for Blood Mage.

why would you wait so long to kill the dragons?

i was able to kill the high dragon at around lvl 13, with 2 of my party members at 12.

i was playing on normal though, maybe your difficulty is tougher.

By my count, the most mana regen you can get at the moment is:

Cailan's Arms = +5.75
Wade's + Evon's = +3
The Wicked Oath = +1
Andruil's Blessing = +2
Fade Shroud = +1
Combat Training = +.5
Natural = +1

= +14.25

This should be enough for both Shimmering Shield (-10) as well as Haste (-3) or Spell Might (-4), or if you're not running solo and can bring Shale, you can get all three (as Shale adds +4).

You could also use Duncan's Sword and either Fade Wall/Warden's Tower Shield/Duncan's Shield for a total of +5, but that would, of course, put you below +14 (yet still above +13).

If you edited Anduril's Blessing to add +4 as it does on consoles, then you could reach +16.25.  I'm not sure if we can, but if you can also edit RtO so that Cailan's Arms adds +6.5 (again, as it does on consoles), then a solo AW could reach an even +17, able to sustain Shimmering Shield, Spell Might, and Haste.

Can we edit RtO in the toolkit?  Because that sounds enticing.
