I have just installed Mass Effect on my Samsung R560, running Windows XP with the following stats:

Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T8400 (2.26 GHz, 1066 MHz, 3 MB)
Graphics card: nVIDIA GeForce Go 9600M GT with 512 MB
Ram: 3GB (DDR3 / 1GB x 1 + 2GB x 1 )

I have the graphics level on medium with the graphics at 1028x768, and in combat I get between 20 and 30 FPS (using fraps) and 25-40 FPS outside of combat.

Is this normal?

Kill all the AA and AF options, and kill the particle detail to zero. Kill the dynamic shadows, and everything except V-synch. Keep your textures at Medium, put your desired resolution, and hopefully it should run a bit better for you. If it's still slow-ish, kill the textures, then start lowering the resolution levels 1 by 1 and keep testing. IMO, i'd rather play poor quality and smooth rather than good quality and choppy. Fluid gameplay IS quality in itself.

On a side note, now i have a much better custom rig, but back in my own laptop days, it really helped buying a cooling fan pad that you put under the laptop and playing on a table to make sure that my laptop completely vents and doesnt overheat. Because an overheating laptop is a VERY slow one that will shut itself down if it gets over certain temp. restrictions.

Hope that helps :D Cheers!

No, this is not normal. I have the desktop 9600 GT and get over 50 frames per second at 1600x900 and the highest settings. While your laptop should be slower than my desktop the difference here is too big.

Then what are my options?

I have all the latest drivers, and I don't have problems with other games.

Okay, reinstalled the latest Nvidia drivers, update windows xp (with service pack three). Everything is up to date.

I tested my computer at the system requirements lab website and it says my stats are perfect for ME.

I also tried different levels of texture and filtering quality at the standard resolution of 1028x768

I still get between 20 and 35 fps per average, expecially in combat. Occasionally it rises to 40-50 fps in certain areas, but that's about it.

So I am all out of ideas. I don't know what to do to make this game run well, even though I easily have the recommended stats.

I actually made a mistake earlier quoting my system earlier.

I have Samsung R560-AS01 with the following specifications from DXdiagnose:
