Sound Issues...Yeah, surprise eh?

So, I have that ever famous sound issue. Either conversations cut out, or the sound interrupts...or this or that.
I've changed it to software, I've tried it on hardware, I've set the Max and available channels to 64 and 62 respectively, and I've tried that on both Software and Hardware. Side conversations without any input from me seemed to run fine, if barely audible, on software, and I think it was a LITTLE better. On hardware, conversations didn't cut out at all after I did the channel fix...but walking, shooting, and most other effects started screwing up like they normally did. I don't really have a soundcard outside of my mobo (although ME lists it as 'Generic Hardware'...although I do have a nifty Gigabyte Technology sound manager program courtesy of my mobo...) and my driver is Realtek HD Audio so...Any ideas? :/

EDIT: I wish to point out that, after 9 hours of Dragon Age gameplay and an hour or so of tinkering with conversations n a bit of gameplay on ME2...as far as I can remember/tell, they obviously don't have this issue (which I've come to gather isn't surprising) so.... :/ The sound issues aren't ENTIRELY crippling...I DO have the 360 version but...It would be nice to hear the end game conversations and the humour all the way through....They ARE rather enjoyable :3

Anyone have any advice? I've found no fix so far on either EA's support data base concerning sound, and the fixes I listed, as I said, didn't really 'fix' it either. Any suggestions? :/

I'm in a similar situation myself, albeit not as extreme. With hardware sound off & that Max/Available Channels fix, almost everything, including walking, sounds right for me. Except that I've never been able to fix gunfire sounds, which often cut out early; and I occasionally have the issue where the music gets cut off when there's a lot going on.

ME1 has a very temperamental sound system, is all I can tell you. :/ I wonder if it's maybe related to my lack of CPU power, as that is generally the bottleneck with this game for me.

Maybe see if there's a newer driver for your Realtek audio if you haven't already? Gigabyte's website should have a listing of drivers for your mobo.

My drivers are, at most, 2 months old. I will be updating them now, although ME1 had these issues before then, I sincerely doubt drivers would do much no. I have a quadcore, so CPU is definitely not an issue, and I have 4 GB DDR3, so RAM isn't an issue either :/. Also would like to add vehicle and environment sounds to the list. For instance, on many a planet (feros the most recent, but barren exploration worlds have also had this occur for me) I'll be using the mako and occasionally a loud shearing of metal kind of sound starts happening :/...I might switch back to software and check actual conversations (Although now that I think on it, Id like to point out that at first, software DID seem to have a significant FPS drop, like I read, but after some time, it was back to normal...granted, its a lil slow at start with hardware on, but hardware off was a lot longer to 'warm up')

Just a thought - I have the same lack of sound card (realtek drivers for onboard sound on a gigabyte mobo) and manually setting the channels worked for me, but *only* if the game was already in software mode, and changing the mode appears to reset the channels and you have to do it again. There's a pretty detailed explaination in this thread http://social.biowar...1/index/1623103

Oh and apologies if that's what you did and you've seen that thread already, just thought I'd point out a couple of details I overlooked the first time I tried. The only other thing I can suggest is to take a look at the old support forums, there's a link to them in a sticky at the top of this forum.

Good luck!

Yeah, was thinkin of tryin the deleting thing...I'll try that now, and get back to you. Thanks for linking that again (Also, whats ur pic from? D:)
EDIT: Just realized/found out/remembered something...by deleting engine.ini...I can't get my resolution back, as I use 1440 x 900 and it's not listed for ME1 :/....Is it fine to open the .ini and at least add that, do ya think?
