Hi Folks

I started playing the PS3 version of the game about a month ago, when about 2 weeks ago, my wife decided she wanted to play as well. Since fighting over the PS3 never works out, I went and bought the game for PC. (Which is infinitely better, I think simply for the longer button bar lol).

However, I have to say, the PC version is WAY more difficult than the PS3 version. I was playing PS3 on normal and things like friendly fire never effected my toons so I just AOEd the hell out of things and went on my merry way. Now, on the PC, friendly-fire takes out my whole party so I've had to build totally different mages.

I am not complaining about this difference, I like the challenge on the PC. But, in the last two weeks of my wife playing, she has beaten the PS3 version of the game, including slaying the broodmother, morigen's mom, and such when I have a hell of time against a Reverant. I am still working on my second of the 4 main quests...

Just thought I'd start a discussion about this and see what others think.

Yeah, I got the PS3 version for christmas and done it on normal. Finaly bought it on PC and it is incredibly harder.(Not that I'm complaining). The PS3 version was harder on different parts of the game, e.g not being able to effectively get your party out of archers arrow fire and mages AOE.

Even so, the Console and PC versions are great either way.

It seems PC is the greater choice here.

I was staying with my friend in Leeds at Christmas and his brothers got a PS3.

Dylan, my friend, knew about the PS3 so he asked his mother for Dragon Age for Christmas.

He and I begun playing on the PS3 and didn't move for a fortnight, we enjoyed it so much.

When I got home (I don't have a PS3) I bought the PC version which is far superior.

Once I completed it, I went through again for fun and achievements using the console to boost my characters, gain extra starfangs etc. and it's just incredible. :P

The PS3 version was dumbed down...

I wont get into an argument, but I think we all know the reasons why....

I bought my friend the PS3 version for his birthday. He prefers to play games on the console. It's a matter of comfort and familiarity for him as, after discussing our different experiences, even he agrees that my PC version is probably better.

Also, in a side by side comparison, the graphics on my PC are noticeably better than on his PS3.

quite a number of games HAVE to be "dumbed down" to play on console.

DA:O is just one of several...PC's are through-and-through more capable than consoles..and offer better control..better graphics..and overall better gameplay.

and no I'm not hating on consoles...just stating facts.

The XBox 360 was released on November 22, 2005, and plays this and EVERY other 360 game just fine.

How many of your PC's bought on that date are capable of running this game? I'm guessing zero.

XBox 360 wins just for this reason alone.

My PC copy of DA would have run on a 2005 machine just as well as the Xbox version runs on your Xbox. My PC copy of DA runs better on my 2009 machine better than yours runs on your Xbox.

The point of this thread is not to debate the quality of the platforms, but the game itlf on those platform. I just found it interesting that the console version was so much wimpier (gameplay) than it's pc counterpart.

And that it certainly was. As I can say from seeing bother versions in action. Not having a mouse pointer is a serious handicap. And the visuals are of a lower quality in comparison to more game tuned PCs.

Actually any pc from 2005 will run DA:O literally the same as an Xbox, as programmers need to program to the lesser platform to enable ease in converting between platforms.

finished it 2 times, finished awakening as well, both on 360, and just bought a brand new PC to play it on PC(got the games already, now waiting for the PC to be delivered...) motivation was simple: no toolset on the console... mouse and tactical view will make all the difference, as well as the fact that Edge of Reality, the MOFOs, who can't patch console versions have nuttin' to do with it...and PC patches are released for real, not just announced... those guys are really embarassing the Bioware developpers...

Dragon Age is clearly a PC-style RPG, don't play it on console.

The biggest difference is that you can give simultaneous move orders to your party members (you can't do that on the consoles, because all movement happens in real-time).

This means that you have far greater tactical control over positioning, and as such the game is balanced to suit that.

I would suggest that the console versions are designed to be played as one character with autonomous squadmates, while the PC version is designed to be played as a complete party where you control everyone all of the time.

I vastly prefer full-party control.

I don't play any console games. Is there no <spacebar> pause equivalent for DA on the consoles??? I'd be doomed in DA without that. It's almost impossible to select targets for ranged attacks that are continually moving.

hhahahahah...actually I've since upgraded but my old pc..was older then the 360..and plays DA:O just fine thank you.  Gave the old PC to a buddy of mine who had an even older one and gifted him the steam version for his bday.....and I was at his house to set it up (he's cpu retarded)....so I've seen first hand how it plays on a machine that old.

try again moron

I built the PC I currently use for gaming in 2003. Granted, I've upgraded just about everything in it since then ... but then, you can't upgrade an XBox 360. :) And then there's the magic four words, "red ring of death."

I have to agree with you from my console point-of-view. I have the game on PS3 for one main reason - our home PC is basically garbage and with pay cuts at work, a new one isn't forthcoming anytime soon whereas we already had the PS3 in the house for a few years now. So, it's really the only viable gaming option at the moment.

But playing DA on the PS3, the only real way to do so is to stay in control of one character and have your team members set up with good tactics and hope they don't go off getting themselves killed. You can switch control to any of them at any time if you need to override their tactics, but is a major pain in the booty. I tend to just control my main character and set the others up with their tactics. If they make it, they make it. If they don't, then I'll just have to throw an injury kit their way. Posted Image

But as far as I can tell, even with a radial menu you can pull up, there's no real way to give play-by-play commands to your teammates or select targets to go after. If there is, I either haven't found it or I completely fail at gaming (both options are totally likely Posted Image )

DA was designed for PC's and plays better on them (having played it originally on Xbox with several complete playthroughs). The controls are a little harder to get the hang of on PC, but once you do, the game is actually a lot easier, and the mods add so much to the game. I love my consoles. I play almost every other BW game on a console, but the PC definitely has the advantage for this particular game.

RPG's and first person shooters are always better on PC's than on the console.

RPG's, RTS games etc. will always be better on PC's because of the mouse and keyboard.
