Console Vs. PC

I like the console better -- yes it's prettier on PC, and the strategy pause and move thing works there, and you have all the lovely mods. But when I play, I actually find the game more thrilling and adrenaline rush exciting playing on console.
If I could use the mods on the console, I'd be in DA heaven.

1. I had a working computer (yes, mine isn't the best)
2. All DLC was done, YES Return to Ostagar included.
But I am content with having finished my game, and I got others to play. Too bad

That being said, the PC Version of any game is going to be better than the Console Version(Assuming the PC Version isn't a horrible port [Dead Space]).

Get over yourself, this will never happen. More money is to be made on console gaming. I won't get into the reasons behind this because I don't feel like getting into a piracy/PC gaming is dying debate. But case in point, go check out the sales data for some of the bigger titles such as Modern Warfare 2. Console sales absolutely blew
PC sales out of the water.
Games will continue to be supported more and more on the consoles simply because this is where the most money is to be had. Yes it is an art form and I am sure devs love to share there craft with the world but at the end of the day it is a job and the people who back said visions want to make bank when it is all said and done.
Regardless, I do agree with the notion that Dragon Age should be played on PC for the full experience.

ME1's PC port was excellent. Its UI was completely redesigned for the PC, and the Mako was vastly easier to control (driving and aiming were uncoupled).
ME2's PC port is far less good. It's basically just a console game running on a PC.
UI wise yes, However performance wise ME1 was ****, ME2 has much smoother performance on the same system. Hopefully ME3 will have ME1's UI and ME2's performance.
As for me, i play with both PC and PS3, i enjoy third person shooters, jRPGs and such more on PS3, while i use PC for FPS's (except Killzone, which works surprisingly well with a controller), RTS's and Dragon Age like RPGs. Also Bethesda's RPGs must be played on PC due to the hyperactive modding community

Also my face when I own a gaming PC and consoles and PC gamers and console gamers fight over which is better.

Console piracy will catch up. It's only marginally more difficult to pirate console games.Cyclosarin wrote...

I will pick it up for the pc, and enjoy the mods and everything else, but for a first run through to enjoy the story, I found the PS3 to be no less fun than my previous pc experiences.

Wife just beat PS3 version for second time. She first played as a rogue and when she finished the game, rolled a mage. I am still on the 4th of the 4 main quests... We play for nearly the exact same amount of time. However, I am constantly pausing the game and assessing my plan, like an RTS game, whereas she just charges in and kills ****. She spanks Reverants and Dragons like they are level 1 murlocs. I have to come back several levels later and try again. She never worries about tactics, not even sure she knows what tactics are. The AI just runs her party for her, all she has to do is play her own toon.
My biggest gripe has to be that Normal on Console has no friendly fire. As I stated in my OP, I started on the PS3 version and thought it odd that spell text warned of friendly fire but then it never happened. So, I had one hell of an AoE mage. When I switched to PC version, I had to relearn mage and play a lot more safely. Oh the **** I could blow up if there wasn't friendly fire....

Dead Space was a good port, as far as i know. I never had any problem with that one.
Resident Evil 5 was a good one too, and so was Assassin's Creed 2. ( Not sure it's a pc port, but it was released on console first ), sometimes they're even better than the console version...
And about the piracy stuff, never forget that whatever game developers do, pirates will adapt.
Today's console are quite similar to computers, the operating system provided is the only difference.
So the "Consoles are a way to solve the piracy problem" argument doesn't convince me.
To me, PC is better, but it's just an opinion.
A PC is long term investment. You can easily play today's game with a three years old computer, if the initial investment was sufficient. And you can always find a way to upgrade it to gain a few more durability.
Also, games are less expensive on PC.

They just got HD game play a few years ago (90% of which is 720p only - or less), while PC gamers haven't played a game at 720p since the 90's. Online play? Same deal. Consoles toiled in the dark ages of multi-player until relatively recently, and even now, multiplayer is best on the PC still. And our multi-player communities are larger. The devs of modern warfare 2, for example, went on the record shortly after the game shipped saying how there were more people playing it on the PC than on the consoles.
Even gameplay and overall game design on modern consoles is largely a momentum of game designers who developed for the PC first (or still do), or grew up playing PC games (with a few exceptions - mainly the japanese devs). Really consoles gamers should be happy, in a way that this is so. Where do you think the engineering that went into modern consoles came from? It was improved and tested on PC's for years before it made it to the consoles. And the same will happen again (though probably to a lesser extent) when the next gen of consoles comes out in three to four years.
Objectively the PC is the best gaming platform for hardcore gamers. It offers the most choices, the better multi-player and multi-player communities. Want to play with a keyboard and mouse near all the action, you can. Want to play with a controller on your HDTV from your couch, you can. Want to download the latest games and not worry about changing discs or losing/damaging them? You can. Would you rather have a physical copy of a game? You can. Want to go budget and play most games at medium-high settings (which is still way better than any of the current consoles)? You can. Want to spend a little more and play at grpahics levels and resolutions the consoles can only dream of? You can. Want to play the vanilla game that the devs envisioned? You can. Want to play a game that is modded graphically and gameplaywise to your exact specifications? You can. That doesn't mean consoles don't have their place, or that you can't enjoy them as well. Heck I own a wii and plan on getting the xbox Kinect when it ships, but for any of the serious single player and any multi-player game I do, the PC is just the superior platform.
As for game sales, according to the latest statistics, PC gaming world wide is not only strong but growing stronger. Thanks to services like steam (which has more active counts than xbox live, BTW, MILLIONS more), and cheaper more powerful hardware, PC gaming is becoming more and more popular. And the most popular games in the world are still on our platform ONLY. Do you think ANYTHING on the consoles approaches the popularity of games like the Sims or World of Warcraft? Do you think anything on the consoles will compete with upcoming behemoth PC exclusives like Starcraft II or Diablo III or even Civ 5? Heck you have to climb down to the 5th or 6th largest PC game before you start to see matching numbers from console games. The NPD numbers you usually see console fanboys quoting are inaccurate and misleading as they do not count online delivery methods (and according to the latest stats close to %80 of all PC games are purchased digitally now a days), tend to only count the US, and even then they don't count some of the major retailers (such as Walmart).
Oh, and of course DAO is a better game on the PC. Who really needs to ask this question? It's not a BAD game on the consoles by any stretch of the imagination - but all things being equal, why would you NOT opt for isometric tactical camera, mods, better graphics, mods, better performance, more challenging difficulty levels and encounters, oh and yes, mods.

I absolutely love DAO on PS3. It's got it's plusses and minuses compared to PC, but the story sucks me in emotionally and the easier difficulty makes it fun (as I'm not the world's greatest gamer by any stretch of the imagination), and to me that's the most important thing.
The experience always outweighs the challenge.

Missing one + for the PC version: Mods.
Mods have been keeping PC games alive for much longer than console games. Oblivion, Fallout 3, KOTOR, etc have been kept alive all these years becuase of their support for modding.
As for the poster previous to this quote:
It is very doubtful there were more people playing MW2 on the PC, seeing as how they pretty much gave a big middle finger to PC gamers.
Not sure where you are getting your statistics from, but PC gaming is not getting stronger, nor is it stronger than consoles, which is the reason why companies like DICE and Infinity Ward insist on shafting PC gamers in favor of consoles.
This statement pretty much sums it up nicely: There are more console gamers, but PC gamers are much more loyal.

Why is it a gripe? No one has to play it on normal. It is just that it appeared normal for the pc version to have friendly fire due to more individual control and optional distant viewpoint. It appeared normal for the console version to have friendly fire off due to the extra work involved in figuring friendly fire into the control system and viewpoint. On both versions you are free to change difficulty rating.
The game is incredibly simple either way. The mage has a ton of spells which have little friendly fire risk. The friendly fire ones are some of the poorest in the mages repertoire anyway. They are slow to cast, weak and don't suit party fighting.
Personally all I have to do on the PC version is just charge in on any difficulty. This is not a difficult tactical game.

I prefer certain genres on different platforms, such as; FPS, RTS, RPG on PC and racing, action, and 3PS on console.
I do my research on each game to see which I would like to play it for, I look out for which has the best interface, make sure it's not a poorly optimized port, and so on.
I don't understand fanboys. Why would somebody ever feel a sense of loyalty to a company unless they worked for it?
Yes, it is widely accepted by reviewers and players alike that the PC version is better. I'm sure playing the console version is better than nothing, though.
