Hey all. I finally got around to beating ME2 a few days ago, and I have a fairly simple question: I kept my final save in my first playthrough (during the barrier long walk sequence, right before the final battle), and as my Shepard survived with all crew and squad in tow, I got the new game plus, which I saved in a seperate slot. I always like to keep the final save of any game campaign, in case I ever want to replay the final battle for kicks or show it and the ending to friends.

My question is, are there any negative ramifications of doing this? Will replaying the final boss somehow override my completed game save data (which I very much intend on keeping for ME3, as I did with ME1 for ME2), or will it just create a duplicate? Or will it do nothing at all? I understand this question might be a bit unusual, but if anyone has any information on this, I'd greatly appreciate it.

(Also, I'm certain this has been exhaustively dicussed, but for the record, that final decision seemed much more obviously black-white, good-evil than its paralell shades of gray choice in ME1....my Shepard, who maxed out renegade, even picked the "paragon", i.e., not a complete tool, option  )

It won't override your original save, it will create a new save. One way you can see your saves is to try starting a new game with a ME2 import. Say you have a character called John Shepard and you've finished one game with him and then you returned to a save point (like the final boss) and replayed that character from that point. With the ME2 import, you'll see John Shepard listed twice: one with the original playthrough and then the other with the new playthrough.

I'm pretty sure that's the case at any rate. Maybe I should have actually checked first. Be right back.

Thanks for the concern Pacifien. I do know for a fact that the circumstances you described about duplicate completed game data appearing in the new game menu under character imports is how ME1 functioned; I once replayed the Sovereign battle to show to a friend of mine and later when i went to start a new game two virtually identical characters appeared, differentiated only by a slight disparity in complete time. I suspect ME2 treats this issue similarly, but some definitive clarification would be nice, maybe I'll try it myself at some point.
