I'm making a shield with custom heraldry.

When I examine the item in the toolset, it looks fine.

However, I can't see the heraldry when the item is equipped on a creature in the toolset, or in game, no matter which folder I put the dds file in.

Any ideas?

Only the heraldry is custom? Then perhaps you need to put the 2ds into core override. Because that is a very bad problem the toolset can see module override, but the game cannot or something likethat.

there is an heraldry 2da. any chance that you created a custom m2da with an entry of your heraldry?

Thanks for those suggestions - no luck yet.

I've tried module, core, user > packages and Program Files > packages overrides, including the toolsetexport, data and texture sub-folders.

I've checked that the dds files are identical in size to the official ones, with the correct DXT5 format, alpha mask and mip maps.

The M2DA file must be working (for the toolset, at least), because I can select a custom heraldry for a shield. The 3D image of the item is fine - I can see the custom texture on it.

So, still stumped.

Solved!

It's another instance of the M2DA ID range bug.

Everything works as intended if the M2DA ID is in the range 0-255. My original values 1,000,001 onwards don't work. I haven't tried intermediate values.

I did a simple brain dump in the form of a tutorial.

It would benefit from visual examples, if anyone has time.

There is a thread on the specific item variation ID bug and the fact that it's restricted to the 1-255 range, which sucks. Wish they'd include a fix for that in the next game patch, we're going to run out of real estate in there soon :)

As I understand it, the item variation bug is a known instance of the M2DA ID range bug already mentioned. The heraldry bug reported here is a different instance.

Ah, yeah, I was thinking heraldry were "items" using itemvariation.xls. Forgot they were off in their own table...
