I recently upgraded to Windows 7 and ME1, ME2, and all of my UE3 engined games crashes after a few minutes of play. The screen goes black and it get looping sound and I have to do a hard reset. I have my games on Steam. I deleted and reinstalled all of them. I got ME1 to work, (only noticed a weird visual glitch with Vigil) but ME2 still gives me the same crashing issues. I can only get halfway through Lazarus station before the game locks up on me. Anyone else have similar problem? Any solutions?

Do you mean you did an upgrade in place, i.e. not a fresh install?
Also, always post specs with a crashing problem like this.

It's a fresh install. I have a Toshiba Qosmio Laptop.
Intel Core 2 Duo T7350 (2.0ghz Dual Core)
4GB RAM
Nvidia Geforce 9700M GTS 512MB VRAM (Driver version 8.17.12.5721)
Realtek Sound Adapter (Driver Version 6.0.1.6132)
Windows 7 64bit Home (6.1, Build 7600)
Direct X11
Problem Details.
The game funs absolutely fine initially. No graphical glitches or sound problems. I got through the entire SR-1 destruction sequence, the Lazarus reconstruction sequence, and all the way to just past giving Wilson the medigel and the screen goes completely black. It happens every time I try to play the game. I get a loud looping sound, and I'm forced to do a hard reset. CTRL+ALT+DEL does not work. The only games that have shown this problem are Mass Effect 1, Mass Effect 2, and The Last Remnant. They are all Unreal Engine 3 games so I'm assuming there is some sort of conflict with UE3 since all three games have the same symptons. I playing ME2 via Steam.
I deleted and reinstalled all of the games, not just the ones in question, and ME1 runs now albeit with the occasional minor graphical glitch. It's most readily apparent on Vigil. All the areas that should glow white are black. ME2 still has the same issue though, I still can't get through Lazarus Station without a major Black Screen of Death Crash. Only my UE3 engined games show this behavior. I've tried my other Steam titles and they play perfectly fine.

Just realized that since I solved the ME1 portion of the problem....this in the wrong forum. Comprehension fail on my part.

Hi!
I have gone through the same problem (on multiple games including SC2, MW2, ArmaII, etc) and i believe i am familiar with it.
Qosmio crashing during games (even freecell) with a black screen and loopy sound from the speakers. Solved only with a hard reset. Problem does not happen if you are running off the battery.
I believe i might have a solution. I have seen the problem crop up across the board on all Qosmio laptops (including my own X300) and i eventually did quite a lot of research and found out a solution.
The problem really pertains to fixing the clock frequencies between the GPU and the CPU and that caused all the problems. They apparently loose sync with each other at variable speeds due to a bug in the power management.
The detailed explanation and solution are on www.fixmyqosmio.com and you can check out the writeup there.
It worked for me and it has worked for over 100 other people who have liked it and used it. !!Warning!! it is a COMMERCIAL solution (although it has a 100% refund guarantee) so dont go to the site unless you want to.
I am not soliciting for business. just letting you know that there IS a way to solve the problem and Toshiba are either not concerned or unable to solve the problem. Please dont make the mistake that i made (taking my out of warranty laptop to toshiba) and paying for servicing it.
The service center cant help as it just DOES NOT KNOW how to solve the problem. They service it and hope for the best.
Hope that was some help

I was having the same issue, except that my display would eventually return after about of 2 minutes of black. Doesn't completely ruin the experience, but if you're caught in the middle of a fight it tends to be annoying.

In normal usage, it is not strictly related to Windows 7, but to other, various causes.
