Hi everyone,

I get an appcompat.txt crash everytime I try to enter this door near the Professor's clinic (around 0.45 in this video www.youtube.com/watch). The game has run smoothly before this.

I've EA store digital edition. The crash happens on both 1.00 and 1.02 versions.

Here are some of the possibilities for the error in my opinion:

I had to install the game manually (drag & drop to correct folders) because the setup wanted me to insert disc 2 during installation and wouldn't continue (I don't even have disc 1). Maybe there are some missing registry entries or something because of this? How to fix?

I have to use a cracked exe because of the awc.dll error. Maybe the crack is causing it? Maybe the awc.dll error happens because of the manual installation? I have Adobe Air installed to its latest version. I also tried to use EaAccessInstaller to create these missing dll files but couldn't get it to work. Maybe someone could post a detailed guide how to use the program as I don't understand the ones posted before (for example social.bioware.com/forum/Mass-Effect/Mass-Effect-PC-Technical-Support-Spoilers-Warning/Issue-awcdll--misconfiguration-problems-with-digital-distribution-versions-804361-1.html)

The appcompat file causing the crash is in C:/Documents & Settings/username/Temp and is changing its file name every time. Changing video settings, difficulty or squad members doesn't help.

Finally, if it's not possible to fix this is there any way to just skip this part of the game?
Any suggestions?

The info on comp & bug as required:

-Game is Mass effect 2
-Digital eastore download
-Version: 1.02
Comp info: (yeah my comp is way too old and sucks atm:whistle:. However I don't think this is about hardware because the game worked great before)
-Processor: Intel Core 2 6400 @ 2,13GHz. Ram 3 GB.
-Graphics card Nvidia 7600 gt, 256mb vram, drivers 185.85 (tried to upgrade the drivers but it's not working for some reason)
-Sound adapter SoundMax HD Audio, version 5.10.1.4530
- OS: Win XP SP3, DirectX 9.0c

-The problem is described in the beginning of post.

If you are complaining about a console version, you are in the wrong forum.  This is for User to User advice, discussion, and suggestions.  As such, there is an established reporting procedure.  If you hope for other game players to offer assistance, you will fill in the standard information.

Thank you.

I am sorry, I'm new here. What procedure are you talking about? I'd be happy to edit my post if there's something wrong with it.

That's what the pinned threads are for.

If that is a laptop, nVIDIA is allowing most laptop owners to use the generic drivers now.  If it is not, let's find out why a newer driver isn't usable.  Tell us more about why your driver is so old, please.

Sorry, I should've mentioned that my pc is not laptop. The driver is old because for some reason it seems to be working better than most new ones, at least for me. Most of the newer drivers cause some kind of ''lag'' (hard to explain as english isn't my first language). Nevertheless, I'm going to try some of the latest drivers and see if I get them working

Well, I began to think the problem might have something to do with area loading.. maybe the map files are broken or something? So I went and replaced the files with new ones and now the game FREEZES instead of crashing..

 I replaced them once more and now it works! It was indeed a broken file.. I'm beginning to think there might be something wrong with my hard drive as it is very old already. Maybe it's time to upgrade..

Anyway, problem solved!
