I can only give this advice, give the mages the strongest runes that you have and they will be a great help in the final battle. Plus this mages dont run out of Lyrium.

For the mages it makes a big difference if you put runes in the crates or not. I tried to different settings. Once i gave only Novice and Journeyman Runes. On the next playthrough i bought Expert and Grandmaster Runes (Flame, Ice, Lightning) and gave all of them the mages. I can tell you that this group of 12 mages nearby cleaned up the complete elven alienage without my help.

I chucked a bunch of gems at the dwarves and loved them. I never used allies till fighting the Archdemon, and they were perfect for add control, they were more than capable of taking the hits and holding threat while the random named NPCs killed them. I started with 50 dwarves and ended with 46.

The dwarves are insanely hardy anyway. I used them in both the Market and the Alienage to hold off threat while I pounded the generals. Still ended up with 41 at the end, using the mages for the Archdemon (lost 7 or 8 of them in the battle, but they were still very useful, especially with the named NPCs protecting them).

Did you just necro a thread that hasn't seen a post in over three years to ad "ok then?"
