I just finished playing DA Origins the other day and decided to try the Awakenings expansion. I put in the game disc, let it run through the opening scenes and then press start. It then goes to the checking saved data screen and thats it. I can't get past this loading screen because it never finishes. I've left it for over half an hour just to see if it took a super long time to load, but nope, it still hadnt even finished. So I then took my game back to the store and they gave me a new disc. I immediatley went home and tried the new disc only to have it do the exact same thing! Needless to say I'm getting pretty frustrated because I spent $50 on the thing and I can't even get past the main screen. Does anybody have any idea's on why its doing this? I debated just deleting my whole Origins game off the PS3 and then letting the game install again along with Awakenings but I really don't wanna lose all my saved data, trophies not to mention my character. Any help would be appreciated.

DA on PS3 seems lose/delete? file identifiers on the weekend. Very strange. Try starting a game with Origins disc in the machine. Depending on the number of saves you have, it could take several minutes for the game to check saves. After you get to the load save screen, go to the save that you would like to start from in Awakenings and make sure it has a picture and time played displayed.
Quit and put in the Awakening disc and when prompted, start a game using the advanced option, (triangle), and choose the save you would like to start from. Hopefully this will work.

Read the forum - retail version of Awakening is broken, because it forces install of an old patch.
No idea when/if they'll fix it. PSN version is ok of course.

Not true. Am using the retail version and it works fine. When I went to install the patch included on the disc, got a message saying a newer version was already installed and had no problems in that area.

Issue I've described is present for many users here. And it's exactly this problem - checking save data never ends.

I had the problem on DAO after PSN update and Leli song DLC but eventually it finished checking, it took 20x longer than normal
Now, back to normal. Not sure what the problem was, but I'm guessing PSN/FW/EA server clusterF?

I have a retail version. It tells me that the patch is older and recommends not running it, but I'm also stuck on the "Checking Saved Games" message. Especially weird since I don't have any saves for it to check as I deleted them all and rebooted my system. Origins disc loads just fine...thoughts?

I had the same problem. I had the patch that was included with the disc installed since I played it awhile ago. When I wanted to play it again this week. It would stay on the "checking saved data" screen for a long time.
Anyway, the problem was resolved when I downloaded the latest patch.

For consoles, you just enter your disk and it asks you to update to the latest patch.

Gotta be online though I do think.
