I just finished ME2 once again, first time with Kasumi on the Collector-Base.

Like allways I took Garrus and Grunt, allways everyone survived.
And now: Tali died.

Does anyone else think, the "all survive"-formula BioWare used in the last section of the Collector-Base is...well...sorry for the hard word: CRAP?

Seriously: The game is designed to give us the feeling of having the top-specialists of the galaxy at our side and suddenly everything get's weaker because we have a thief with us, that jumps onto a gunship and does a rodeo while deactivating the shields? :?

In my oppinion, if we buy a dlc, the added squad-member shouldn't work in a formula like:
(strength(Garrus)+strength(Grunt)+strength(Thane)+...)/'Number of chars at position' =Survival-Rate
But:
(strength(Garrus)+strength(Grunt)+strength(Thane)+...) =Survival-Rate.

I dunno, more people defending also means more people you have to protect.

They shouldn't have made it so unobvious. In a game like Mass Effect, having (to the player) random deaths is unwise.

you're taking your two BEST Hold the line guys that's why people are dying. Grunt is one who can practically walk out of hiolding the line without so much as a skin cell missing.

Considering how much everyone in the game stresses this is expected to be a mission of no return, I was surprised it was so easy to get all of them to return.

I always take legion, I leave both Garus and Grunt.  Never had Tali die after the Kasumi DLC, only Jack and Miranda due to loyaty issues.

i agree. i don' like people dying, but it adds to the tension when you think one of your squaddies can die any moment. my first playthrough i went through the suicide mission leaning forward in my chair nervous that anyone can get headshot any given moment. TBH i'm surprised there weren't more of these "random" death moments. plus shepard lookig at the caskets after the mission is one of my favorite scenes in the game(sad, but well done)

The only thing missing from the Suicide Mission was an in-game cinematic of the characters holding the line and certain ones living/dying in the firefight.

I mean at least then you'd get to SEE em die. rofl

Yes, me too. But I was also surprised when in the Steam forums on a thread about the Suicide Mission choices, almost everyone had 1-4 squadmate deaths.

ME2 is a "cover-based" shooter, remember? More people = less cover for each. Seems awfully logical to me.

Zulu makes a good point. I usually play a soldier anyhow, so I always avoid taking Grunt for anything really.

I admit I have a soft spot for my 'Dream Team' of Tali and Garrus that I have used since ME1, but I've never had some one die on me; Although I don't have Kasumi yet

Honestly, I'm not sure what many players' gripe is with the suicide mission. The choices seemed pretty logical to me. On my first try without using a guide, everyone survived. It's not that hard.

Wait, Mass Effect 1 didn't have cover?

It did, but it besides Shepard everyone found them useless. I always wondered why. I was like "Ashley, look at the damn cover!" she was like "Whaaaaaaaaat? I don't need this cover cra-"*dies
And the enemies were "I will destroy you! I will destroy you!" And they ran around me shooting like idiots, or stood still not shooting while I kicked their ass. I didn't get it.

I agree. I got the no one left behind achievement on my first attempt without any restarts and no guides. When I got on these forums I was honestly shocked to see how many were complaining at how hard the suicide mission was to complete unscathed. Part of me almost wishes it would be impossible for everyone to survive. Sometimes I enjoy endings where some people I really like die. It makes the story seem more realistic in my opinion.

Garrus and Grunt are the two you NEED to hold the line. Grunt's a krogan and Garrus held off wave after wave of mercs; if you picked the best team in the galaxy, you should play to their strengths. If you play with any other combination not involving Garrus, Grunt or Zaeed together, you shouldn't have a problem.

I've never had anyone die with or without Kasumi.

I always leave Garrus, Grunt, and Zaeed to hold the line, though.

Well, the squadmates' and enemy AI has been sligthly improved... At least they don't try to shoot each other through the walls any more. On the downside, Shepard can't really duck any more and fight effectively until he finds a crate or a cubic boulder to sticky himself to... And then it's quite a tricky business to change position. Instead of just unstickying himself, Shep may occasionally make his trademark cartoonish leap over the "cover" right into the stream of enemy bullets... God bless texmod for removing the red veins!

I agree that it's stupid that the "hold the line" score is a average of the scores of the characters. How can one defender more be a bad thing? Also it leads to strange scenes: Non-loyal Grunt can hold the line by himself, non-loyal Grunt and loyal Mordin and Tali result in Grunt's death. It is a very bad system.

Agreed on all counts. I got everyone out alive on my first playthrough by just doing what seemed most logical - and that included sending Zaeed with the crew because I thought it should be someone tough, which was actually a mistake, but everyone still survived. I really think it would've been better if there had been one or two Virmire-type choices where you have to sacrifice someone, the ending always seems more dramatic to me if I let someone die, but it's always practically 100% intentional.

Same for me with the escort. I sent Thane with the crew on my first playthrough, which I subsequently realized wasn't exactly the right choice, but everyone still survived.

I bless Bioware for removing the "duck" command. It was stupid to find a low cover and you yet have to press a button or key to make him cover correctly. Also, shooting the enemies while being lowered was both stupid and hilarious and almost cheating as it made the game much easier. All my opinion, of course.
Well, I never had problems going from cover to cover.
