Nearly always playing a renegade Shepard, I would choose neither one. He hated being associated with TIM and his ideas of superiority. Plus, the Alliance was held back by all that red tape, and the Council...well, we all know what they are... Truly wish Shep could have his own "organization" for ME3 and not have to answer to anybody.

Both, different characters follow different paths.

I play paragon so I'd go with the alliance. I just can't play renegade or evil.

Cerberus and Alliance are more of interwoven webs, rather than being the same thing. Remember, Cerberus helped build the Normandy SR-1. So, my guess is you will be working for a new organization entirely.

I think Shepard is more on the side of Galactic Citizens Who Don't Want To Die As A Reaper Smoothie If They're Human Or Coughing Up Blood If They're Not.

I'd flip a coin. Both have a good set numbers of pros and cons. However, the Alliance has Anderson so that would be a bit of an incentive.

Sorry, but I find it rather amusing with all these people saying "Cerberus gets the job done."

I mean, remember all those times when Cerberus hails Shepard down saying, "OMG our experiments are out of control! SAVE US!!!":?

Sure, the Alliance has its share of quests where they ask Shepard for help, but the difference there is that the Alliance usually has trouble because outside instigators caused said trouble (terrorists, geth, the occasional alien monkey).
Cerberus gets itself in trouble and subsequently needs bailing out.

All that said, I would rather side with the Citadel Council through the Spectres, but strictly within the limits of the question posed, Alliance > Cerberus.

Alliance. Why? I'm Pro everyones survival not Pro Human survival and domination. We are not superior to the aliens just because we are human. Cerberus helped screw up my life as well (Colonist, Sole Survivor). If anything I'd see Cerberus destroyed, along with a few dead Batarian slavers. I serve the Council and the Alliance and always will. Even though I saved the council and they didn't do a damn thing while I was gone, can't wait to see the looks on their faces in ME3 when the fleet arrives, "Ah, yes, Reapers" that.

Alliance, I'm the nice guy. But true I got pissed with them in ME2. And Cerberus has the awesome crew of the SR-2+Miranda.

If I could carry them to the Systems Alliance, that would be perfect.

I'm on my own side. I don't like the Alliance or Cerberus. Remember the Cerberus intel mission? You had the option of uploading the data for yourself.

Neither. I like the idea of being a spectre, with no obligations to the alliance or cerberus.

Neither. My Shep may help the Alliance, but she's never going back. TIM is too stupid, so no to him too.

They got the job done not for the greater good, but for his own good.
There's a difference.

Cerberus was part of the Alliance, but it went rogue, isn't?
In ME1 they made this pretty clear.

The Alliance, Cerberus are as evil as everyone says despite what the Illusive Man says. It would've been interesting if there would have been an option to tell the Illusive Man to find someone else after Freedom's Progress. However althought that would've been a good choice, joining them and leaving them later on also has it's benefits. You get there ship that cost them billions of credits, the investment on Shepard also goes to waste since he left the group and did exactly the opposite of what Cerberus wanted.

Then there's all the Cerberus databases in the Normandy which are now unblocked and because of that Shepard has access to everything about Cerberus making it easier to take them down in the future. Aside from that the entire crew plus the Illusive Man's right hand defected. If you convinced Toombs to let Dr. Wayne go to trial the news talk about Cerberus. That means they're going public and if everyone finds out about what they've been doing Cerberus will be in a lot of trouble. Then there's also the encrypted information that Shepard can send to Alliance Command.

I hope I get the choice of disbanding Cerberus and putting the Illusive Man in jail.

I would also choose the Spectre route, although with a tendency towards the alliance. Cerberus allegiance is reserved only for my dumb jerk renegade character. All others are either paragon or at least have enough sense to screw up the day for everybody equally.

I really hope we get to make the decision in ME3. I was waiting for it for the whole time during ME2 and was quite disappointed when it turned out we never get the chance. At least in ME3 I want to be able to tell the illusive Man where he can put his attitude n no uncertain terms.

I hope we can screw him over big time. We can already take away the loyalty of his agents (Miranda), blow up the enemy base (I kept it with one paragon character and hope we can take that away from him later, too). Now it's time to take away the Normandy and have EDI mess up his quaint little information network.

.... Yeah, there is some built up frustration left from ME2:).

I gotta say- I'm surprised how many people (not in number- in percentage) want to go Spectre or... Geth?... So do you Spectre guys(and girls respectively) really want to fight directly FOR the council?

Regardless of whether the council is human or not or Anderson is on it- these people essentualy hung you out to dry, even the "reinstatement" which was just a "Get off our backs" b***hslap was NO help what so ever.

And was anyone irritated by the fact that you can't really side with TIM?

Even if it's a human council, even if you... made the last renegade choice in saving that particular piece of alien tech, even if you choose the renegade options to be relatively nice to him you still sound like you hate TIM and mistrust him greatly. What's up with that? I don't want to yell at him, in one of my playthroughs I imported a very, very racist Shep I had made just for fun and it was kinda ridiculus to see this Shep who voted for and defended TerraFirma and was just THE greates xenophobe EVER say: I'm gonna save the galaxy, sc**w Cerberus- u r just racist.

What the protheans is going on? I wanted to be a racist d**sh but in the end I was confined to just a bland heroic icon... that was kinda sad

All I really get as a Spectre is obedience to the Council and the right to wave Council laws. I really didn't have any problems ignoring the law even when I didn't have Spectre status. The Council isn't any help, not offering any valuable resources, and if anything they're a hinderance.

TIM is extremely generous, offering... an unreasonably high amount of resources and freedom, willing to let me do as I please. Even better, he's completely inept at controlling his operatives, as shown constantly in both ME1 and ME2. I don't work for TIM, he works for me. For a "racist" organization, they are don't seem to have any racist members, unlike the Alliance. Though TIM's crossed me before... so has the Alliance and Council. Though there have been questionable Cerberus activity, as a member I've not had to do anything I've not wanted, and if anything I've been able to keep the organization in check. Things would have been a lot worse if Miranda was the leader/hero of ME2 instead of Shepard. Cerberus was the only organization willing to go after the collectors, afterall.

The Alliance... well, I love Admiral Hackett. They don't offer any benefits over Cerberus though, technically or morally. They have greater drawbacks as well, with troublesome rear-admirals, generally weak leadership/security, no initiative, and fealty to the Council.

It would be nice to get propositions (side missions) from all three organizations though. Me and Zaeed are starting our own merc band. >_>
