I have a small hope that ME3 will focus (or kinda focus) on getting the support from the rest of the Spectres, the only group that gets stuff gone. Screw the Council, screw the Alliance, and screw Cerberus. Cerberus is evil who mostly gets its members from people who have been disgusted by the Alliance and Council politicking and later, totally bashing Shepard once s/he died. Persuade the Spectres to join the mini-doom squad we took ME2 to build to defeat the Reapers.

I seriously doubt Shep'll be recruiting any more squadmates, since there are 16 potential squadmates from ME1 & 2. Just imagine what the fan reaction will be if they just ditch the majority of those im favor of new Spectre team members.

I have a hard time believing that any of ME2's squadmates are coming back. Given that it's possible that any of them could eat a bullet at the end of the game, it doesn't make sense for Bioware to create a ton of content for them in the sequel. Hey we have this awesome side quest for Miranda, new character model, and kick ass biotic..  oh yeah, a bullet went through that hooker spandex suit of hers during the final mission.

MAYBE Tali and Garrus because they were there from the start but even then, that's a great deal of unusable content in ME3 if they didn't survive ME2. It's quite possible that Bioware is already going to have to come up with content they know will be unplayable by many if ME2 (they have plans for the ME1 love interests in ME3 and if that includes squadmates, you know that someone isn't coming back).

My prediction: Liara, either Ash or Kaiden, *maybe* Garuss and Tali, and new characters otherwise for squadmates and probably not nearly as many as ME2. ME2 needed so many since the bulk of the game was recruiting them and gaining their loyalty. In the end, with only two squadmates at a time, you're leaving so much unused content back on the ship. Probably a smaller number of characters whom Bioware will try to give real reasons to include this time around as they did in ME1.

I think that most of your squad will be back.  Even though squadmates can die, you pretty much have to take deliberate action to get them killed. Out on a limb here, but I pretty sure the vast majority of players went through ME2 saving everyone. But even so I don't think there will be much content surrounding individual squadmates when the thrust of ME3 is defeating a massive armada of sentient machines.

Seeing as ME2 wasn't rounded off as ME1 was we should be getting some kind of interaction with the ME2 crew. After all they were committed to see it through to the end so to have them just go would be weird and a bit of a cop-out on Bioware's part.

I like the idea of gathering the spectres, that's an intriguing proposal.

My dream ME3 would be using them all...

Shep and his/her crew being "rogue/independent" and having to gather armies (in a Dragon Age'eque way) for a final showdown – because obviously they can't do it themselves.

You would keep your existing/surviving crew from ME2.

You'd somehow have to get Cerberus and the Alliance together to fly alongside the Normandy (this would be an immense task in itself) maybe have them lead by Miranda/Jacob and Ashley/Kaiden respectively.

You can get Wrex after somehow re-unifying the Krogans of Tuchanka – because you know how important that was for him, to follow with a Krogan army (awesome).

The Rachni (if you saved them in ME1) who promised to help (or sing their song or whatever) when the time came.

Of course Anderson ditches the council and rejoins you on your ship (would be awesome to have him a selectable crew member even if it's only for a final battle).

Liara could join you back on your ship, read your new visions and faint some more.

And gather/convince the Spectres (against the council's wishes of course) – which I hadn't thought of until it was mentioned in this thread...

Then you'll all line up and brace for a final gallactic battle of epic proportions... just thinking about it gives me shivers.

All that being said it's probably not going to be anything like that...
