FYI, since ffnet is pretty unreliable, all my stuff is mirrored and up to date on my deviantart profile, in folders by story.

1000th review contest is over!

Here's the story written for the winner's prompt!
I'll be doing something else for the 100th chapter, so keep an eye out.

---------
I decided to edit this so I could put all the art these stories have spawned in one place. Because, well, it's really freaking awesome.

this one is very mildly nsfw for bare Maggie butt. Nothing more scandalous than that.

These two inspired by this bit of kmeme filth. It's Maggie, her Mae from West Young Warden, and Miri1984's Neria from Fractures

I'm not sure why it's taken me so long to make a thread for these...

I wanted to do something very dialogue-heavy, written in first person perspective, as a writing exercise.  I also wanted to see if I could make a character who was slightly unhinged, socially awkward because of growing up in the Circle of Magi, and, as a result, actually loves her life as a Warden.  It seemed like a lot of stories set post-game were about Wardens that had moved on, gotten married and had families or whatever, or resented having to be a Warden.  Which is fine, I read bunches of those, but I wanted to go in the opposite direction with someone who is horrified by the idea of settling down and having a normal life and loves nothing more than slaughtering darkspawn by the score.

It's Amell/Anders but since it's more just the main character's story and not a romance per se the relationship isn't the focus of the story.

The first part, which takes place in the Awakening timeline, is here.  I hate the title, but I'm not sure if I should go back and change it, or what I would even change it to.  I'm horrid with titles.

The second, which is postgame, is here.  If you don't like dozens of OCs and absurdly over the top villains be warned.  I'm a big fan of camp, though, so what can I say...  Plus, the perspective is interestingly limited, as I can only include as much as Maggie figures out on her own or someone tells her.

Eventually I may go back and do one for the core game.  I've already got bits and pieces of it written.

I update pretty frequently, sometimes daily lately.  But, I'm on summer break so I don't have much else to do while everyone I know is at work.  It's fairly easy when you outline to the extent I do and type very, very fast.  ;)

The most recent chapter was published today.  I, for one, would like a pony.  (I always use a snippit of dialogue as one of the chapter titles.  No real reason, just because it makes me smile.)

EDIT:
I just started a story following Maggie during the blight, called Blue Skies, Fresh Air, Freedom, and Darkspawn

And edit again...
Since I had a one-shot for a prompt on the Anders thread that didn't fit in anywhere, I made a 'story' on ff.net for that and any other one shots set in the same universe.
The first, set around the theme "earring' is here

Have you pimped these over at Andraste's Knicker-Weasels on Live Journal? Lots of Anders fans there as well. I'll pimp them for you if you want :).

That would be awesome of you. I have (had?) a LJ but haven't logged into it in years, and I'm pretty sure the email address tied to it was from the last college I went to. Thanks so much, I didn't even realize there WAS an Anders group on there.

I should just make a new account.

I shall link to it in a post :) Been meaning to ask actually, but sometimes I feel a bit weird linking to other people's fics because I feel a bit stalker-ish!

Thanks! I should make a new LJ account and check the group out. I sometimes forget LJ still exists beyond the occasional kmeme.

From the LJ:

\\her OCs are truly not awful

That is the most bizarrely backhanded yet sincere compliment I've ever been given.  I've read enough fanfic to totally get what they mean, it just reads funny.

And I love summer break with nothing to do but play video games and write.  (but I did read Francis Yates's book on Elizabethan occult philosophy this week, so I'm technically also doing thesis prepwork.  That has to count for something.)

Chapter 45 (holy maker, 45? when did that happen?  I may need to do a special extra-crazy chapter for number 50.)
Hey, at least I’m honest

Truly, I thought that was odd too. Although nice. In an odd way.

You make me actually a bit jealous that I'm never, ever darkening the doors of a university again. When I'm crabby and old (not so long away) I might consider doing more study. As long as they don't actually expect me to hand anything in.

I never expected to be back in school, either. Amazing what starts to sound like a good option after getting laid off in the middle of a complete economic collapse, though. ;)

Still not quite used to being a decade older than my classmates.

It's actually an optional thesis, of all things. I only needed two more classes to finish my BA so I could start my PhD, but it was cheaper for me to go for the full semester than to take a couple summer classes. Since I had the time I added an honors seminar and thesis so I can say something fancy on my grad applications. I want to focus my PhD on Renaissance-era Brit lit so I'm going with Shakespeare, that way I can use it as my admissions writing sample, too. It was going to be Shakespeare and his treatment of magic and the otherworldly, but I may narrow that down to Shakespeare and the mage/witch figure. (surprisingly underdeveloped topic as far as the Bard goes. No idea why, but maybe it'll help me weasel a publication out of it)

I'll hopefully get through all fifty pages without referencing Dragon Age.

It's a fascinating subject. I'm assuming there'll be a lot of Tempest in there? And a healthy dose of Macbeth... I'm trying to think of which lesser known plays have witches in them. A Midwinters Tale? It's been a while since I've read them.

There's Oberon in Midsummer, who isn't a magician or wizard per se but acts as one in the context of the play (actually, a case can be made for Hamlet as a wizard figure, too, since he communicates with the spirits), as well as the soothsayers in Anthony and Cleopatra and Julius Caesar. Troilus and Cressida mentions prophesy but it's minor. If I wanted to get way out I could include The Birth of Merlin but that's one of the less reliable apocrypha and most of my dept. is pretty conservative so I don't think they'd accept it when I had to defend. (It isn't bad, it's actually pretty funny, but the characters are more shallow than what you'd expect from Shakespeare, IMO)

If I need to bump up the page count I could toss in comparisons to how Marlowe, Jonson, and Kyd handled similar subjects, since I think that's where Shakespeare's genius really lies. Everyone else treated magic as either a fallacy or as evil. Shakespeare was the only one of his era who addressed it as just another aspect of the natural world.

50th Chapter Spectacular!

(which is really not THAT spectacular, truth be told. Although I'm very on-edge about how people will react to what I did with it.)

Is it treason to threaten my hair?

A quick update since I don't think I'll have much time to write between now and the weekend. Tomorrow's my birthday and if my roommate and I don't get this place cleaned up everyone who comes to the party will run screaming in terror.

Love the chapter update(and your fics in general).

I doubt you need any suggestions, but something devious I think the Wardens could do is relate the darkspawn ambush to the templar attack. Something along the lines of one of the Disciples being there(even if they weren't) and saying some things about "enemy of my enemy is a friend" sort of stuff.

And happy birthday.

Thank you!

I've got a plan in place for the disciples already, in good time. :)

I'm not actually sure if Maggie would lie about darkspawn. In general she's pretty honest. Manipulative as hell in terms of how she'll frame things when the situation calls for it, but not overtly dishonest. I don't think she's really smooth enough to handle actual deception without screwing up halfway through.

Although that does give me an idea... Won't hit for another, hm, two or three chapters, though. :D
