Can you even imagine? it would become some kind of black hole of brooding, just sucking everything around him into a vortex of misery.

The only recourse would be to dress Nathaniel up as Batman and perch him on the ledge of the Keep.

Nathaniel as Batman is such a fantastic image. I can just see it...
New chapter! AOA 85: Am I that predictable?
And this little thing I did for peopleofthedas which amused me.

Positioned because the pictures fit the squares. Nothing deeper than that.
Going clockwise...
1. Mal Reynolds from Firefly- Maggie's almost-blind loyalty and violent gut reaction to anyone that threatens or hurts "her crew" comes from here. If she had access to a jet engine she'd be kicking people into it left and right. Also, like him, she tends to launch herself into the line of danger and get hurt a lot so other people don't.
2. Captain Jack Harkness (more the Doctor Who era than Torchwood)- Apparently for Captain Jack simply saying hello was akin to a proposition. Maggie shares similar views. You drop a book near her? She assumes that means "meet me in the library after lights out." Sex? Well, it's slightly more friendly than a handshake, and far more entertaining.
3. Kaylee - She seems to be just about the happiest woman in the world because she loves her job, even if most people would hate it. Maggie loves killing darkspawn like sane people would love, well, anything that isn't killing darkspawn. She's got that sort of giddy cheerfulness that only comes when someone actually lets you make a living doing what you'd normally do for free.
4. Bones - That sort of oddly-socialized blunt to the point of obnoxious thing comes from here. The idea of dancing around subjects or sugar coating things is a foreign concept to her.
5. The Wife of Bath - She and Maggie have the oddball ability to manipulate religious texts to fit their own beliefs which are almost completely contrary to the accepted ones. She's seriously convinced herself the Chant of Light has no problem with it, and the Chantry is the one that's wrong. She's convinced OTHER PEOPLE of this.
6. The Calling - Duncan smiles at a mage. Duncan leaves the room. The mage, of course (?!?!) assumes that means "let's go!" and follows him, pointing out everyone in her dorm was at the assembly. This was waved off as, apparently, normal mage behavior among themselves. I thought "wow, throwing someone like that into the general population without warning would be really interesting." And Maggie was born.
7. Eleanor of Aquitaine in The Lion in Winter - This is sort of my overall Ferelden inspiration. This exact scene. "Of course he has a knife, he always has a knife, we all have knives! It's 1183 and we're barbarians!" Maggie has "leaving the Keep" weapons. Why? Because it means she has more weapons on her than at home. She carries weapons AT HOME. They all do. And it's not a distrust of each other, just that the idea of being unarmed doesn't even occur to them.
8. Death from Sandman - The whole contrast between a cheerful, friendly, pretty girl who turns out to be one of the things their society fears most (the grim reaper/ maleficar), and then the question of if it should even be feared at all, was interesting as hell to me.
Appearance wise... well, she's basically my attempt to create a character in the toolset that looked like grandmother as a young woman. Which is kind of screwed up, now that I think about it...

I'm slowly digesting the Adventures of Mags. I found if I just plow through a series I get to the end and suddenly find myself getting anxious for each new installment, so this is gonna be a slow burn of a read. Just got to where she gets her hand healed by Anders.
Very much enjoying the story so far! Poor Zev putting his ambitions ahead of his heart. I really really enjoy the dialogue and banter, plus the tongue sticking out at Rylock was priceless. Maggie is a scrappy lil' Mage, and I dig that.
More commentary as I get further along!

More or less that Mags parents held a view toward magic and mages that was similar to Isolde's, only without the 'but not my mage' bit she does.

@Esbatty : Thank you!
@Liliandra: Well, it's a bit more complicated than that... But she still doesn't have the whole story.
AOA 86: My, how things have changed

1000th Review Contest!
We have a winner!Just hit 1004.
------------------------------------------
As of right now, Apostates of Amaranthine has
So I decided I should do something for when it hits 1000. Besides flailing around my apartment like a maniac.
So... whoever posts review number 1000 will get a one-shot story of Maggie and Company on a prompt of their choosing.
(Smut is a-ok, but I'd ask for no non-con or dub-con. And non-smut is just fine, too!)

Actually, the site won't let people review the same chapter multiple times.
I'll probably disable anon reviews when it gets closer so I can, you know, email whoever wins.

I may be able to review some today but then I've got the MOST BORING PAPER IN EXISTENCE to write which should take up a good portion of Friday and Saturday (hopefully I won't have to waste Sunday on it as well).

I know the feeling. I'm writing one on Huck Finn right now.
I feel like the only English major that doesn't like Twain some days.

I'll do something here eventually. Maybe page 20. It's tougher, though, since the vast majority of the posts in this thread are from me, so odds are whatever I decide on- first person to post on page x or poster 300 whatever, will just end up me.

@Melcolloien : Thank you!
And I just hit 1004.
So... if anon reviewer Ivory Orchid is seeing this, drop me a line with your prompt in the next week. Otherwise I'll go on to the 1001th reviewer, who is a registered member.
More new art, too!

Well, that was alternately sniffle-inducing and smite-desiring. At least current outlook is Mom'll be proud of her little girl.
On the other plus side, Maggie knows her real birthday now, she going to demand presents from Anders for the birthdays he 'missed'?

Odds are Anders would give them to her without prompting. He does have his apology box to empty out, after all.

this one is very mildly nsfw for bare Maggie butt. Nothing more scandalous than that.
