In further news, Mass Effect 2 haters still mad that other people are having fun playing a critically and commercially loved game!

I hate to play Devil's Advocate, but Starcraft II is three weeks away, and Halo: Reach is three months away.

Just saying, we have some very stiff competition coming our way soon. The year isn't done yet.

Do you honestly think SC2 has even a remote chance of being game of the year? I'm a fan of starcraft and I'll probably be getting SC2. But it's a hardcore RTS, there's no chance of it being game of the year. Halo: Reach has a chance, based on what I've seen. But imo ME2 should be game of the year, and I will be pissed if it isn't. BioWare deserves it more than anyone.

There's still quite of a few games coming out, but in my opinion - mass effect 2 deserves it. Even if they don't win, it's still game of the year for me haha

Of course BioWare deserves it, and I'm not saying they shouldn't, but the odds are against us.

But really, StarCraft and Brood War had a very amazing storyline, really Blizzard stayed up to the late hours to craft such a gem (I have never seen a Instruction Manual 3/4 dedicated to backstory, and be 100+ pages, other than WarCraft III).  Really the story in the game can only be triumphed by something BioWare can create.

Plus, SCII and Reach will have what Mass Effect 2 doesn't, multiplayer.  There is a reason why tons of people are still playing it Battle.net to this day over 10 years later.

Or they just don't like the game.  Sounds to me from this post that you're more bitter about them not liking it, otherwise I fail to see why this would even be mentioned.

It almost sounds like you think Xplay is a top-ranking source in terms of credibility. :P

I doubt Halo Reach will be better, but Fallout: New Vegas and Starcraft 2 definitely have a shot.

Also, it should be pointed out that the key phrase here is so far...

But still, SurfaceBeneath is right.  Haters are gonna hate regardless.  And that's their opinion; if they don't like the game, that's their choice.

...Reminds me of all the Halo 3 fanboys that griped and complained when Bioshock won GOTY from just about EVERYBODY.  Called all the awards given away that year fixed....

more bitter

Well, considering the time and effort of some people to take potshots at ME2 in every other thread, I'll say bitterness lies elsewhere ;).

This is true, thankfully, you don't need to be first to be succesful. I can't wait for SC2!

I don't have an XBox 360 nor do I intend to buy one, so I'm automatically boycotting Halo: Reach.

Coincidentally, I wouldn't have ever been able to play Mass Effect 1 had Electronic Arts not taken BioWare away from Microsoft and ported it over to the PC. If not for that, Mass Effect would still be a XBox-exclusive console game.

That tells more about the competition and perhaps the journalists, than it does about the game.

Well Gamespot gave ME2 their GOTY award after they reviewed it so I'm not surprised at this. The GOTY feel wore off after like 3 playthroughs when all of the bugs and crap started to emerge. I'll admit right now that this is more like a "Game of the Week" or "Game of the Month" since that's the window of time you can play this game before you start experiencing the things that people have been posting about in the Tech Support sections.

Glad to see it's getting the recognition it deserves! There's still a lot of games yet to be released this year so we'll see if the folks at X-Play still remember it come December. If nothing else, i'd say ME2 will be a strong contender for best Xbox 360 GOTY.

Mass Effect 2 is an outstanding game, no doubts about that. Though there is a very high chance that Halo:Reach could take the prize for Game Of The Year. Red Dead Redemption also stands a pretty good chance, from what I've heard.

I just hope games journalists don't forget the q1 games at the end of this year like most did last year. (EVERY NEW GAME FROM THE HOLIDAY SEASON WINS EVERY AWARD, although bioware's dlc schemes with me2 seem like they'll keep the game in the public eye throughout the year, which is cool with me)

Heck no! I'm getting Starcraft 2 the first day it comes out. Been waiting for that game for a decade.

Red Dead couldn't top ME2. No other game this year will. Rockstar games usually dumps all over other games, but if they couldn't pull it off then gaylo reach and w/e that stupid starcraft game is never will. I'll be back at the end of the year to rub it in your face.

As for Fallout: New Vegas.....I don't know if it'll take GOYT. I've already got one pre-ordered though...and I can't wait to play it.

They don't really hate ME2. They just need something to complain about on internet forums in their free time. These are probably the same people all over MMO forums, and well probably every game forum, who do nothing but complain no matter what: It gives their life drama and purpose. Everyone needs a "cause" I suppose. lol
