So far the only mention of race came through one of my dialogue options when Alistair ambushed my Warden in camp and asked/begged her to spend the night with him. My dialogue option was something like "Even though I'm not human like you?" to which his answer was something like "Especially because of that!" I know that this attitude of his may change later on in the game, and I also know that this is a spoilery board so there's nothing stopping anyone here from telling me about it, but this is my first time playing this game and I'd like to hold out hope that he stays a dwarfophile for the duration as he's promised. My Warden deserves it. She's awesome. :)

He has a different line if your dwarf initiates the tent scene first (you'll only see this when he finally hits love):

Yes, the screenshots are lovely. And the Dalish camp scenes give me something to look forward to (I haven't been there yet). You all have such pretty dwarves. That's actually one thing that I find so endearing about my Warden, though. I deliberately made her not pretty --she's not ugly, but she's not a pretty girl by any stretch. But the Golden Boy is in love with her anyway. I know that the game doesn't know from pretty and will have its characters call your Warden beautiful no matter what she looks like, but I still like to see her rock the plain Jane thing.

I did that with my Dwarf Commoner. Made her alot less "finished" looking than my nobles. Nothing fancy about her. But I tend to do that with all my characters. human Noble is refined and well noble looking. My mages are fussy pretty, my city elf is very average, and my dalish is more exotic.

My last one was a casteless Dwarf. She somehow ended up in a LI with Leli after taking the option to tell Alistair she wasn't interested in humans.

Mine's going for Zev. Most of my wardens go for Alistair, but my Duster just thinks he's too...squeaky clean...lol

I thought of going that way with my Duster, but instead she's responding to his squeaky-cleanness as a welcome relief from the squalor of her previous life. I don't know if it's just because this is my first time playing this game or what, but I was quite stung by how badly my Warden was treated by her own people in my origin story. And the whole "my mom's a drunk, my sister's a **** and I crack skulls and break kneecaps for a scummy gangster because I'm not pretty enough to become a noble's concubine which is the best hope a casteless dwarf has in life" thing was rather depressing. And then along comes this naive, winsome, good-hearted human boy who knows nothing about castes and doesn't care where my Warden comes from, and who treats her like a person of value instead of a waste of space. And he's just good. Ridiculously, eye-rollingly good sometimes, but if that's how he is who he is then my Warden will be good, too, for him.

On my next playthrough though, I might try to throw a little bad into the mix. ;)

See, I saw mine as good enough to be a noble hunter, the only thing that saved her from that horrible fate was her sister. At least that's what I got out of the beginning.  Mileage may vary on that, and it can be a depressing start, OR it can be positive. Mine loves busting heads and knee caps...lol

Rica wh*res so you don't have to if you're female, she explicitly tells you this. Mammy dearest on the other hand tells you your worth is only between your legs. Beraht (scummy gangster) just views you as cannon fodder, so... yeah. It's a bleak origin, but my absolute favourite because it really is a redemption story.

I don't think (and this is my own personal RP experience) Alistair gets Dust Town, and the do or die nature of it, and what you had to do to survive. Zevran does, on the other hand; he gets the hustling and wh*ring nature of it, and that when options are limited there's no choice in being what you are.

Oh, mine definitely loves herself some righteous smiting, to the extent that I often forget she's a rogue and should be sneaking and backstabbing instead. I especially love watching her and her little knife and hand axe perform the finishing move on Ogres (the Risen Ogre at Ostagar was particularly satisfying). But I definitely took a different view of the origin story for sure. It's not as though my Warden thought to herself "gee, I wish I could be a noble's concubine but I'm just not pretty enough" but rather "poor Rica, cursed with prettiness and therefore forced to prostitute herself as my family's only hope of getting anywhere in the world (with Beraht clinging to her coattails). Thank the Ancestors I'm not concubine material and thus am free to crack skulls and bust kneecaps and run with the boys. I just wish I didn't have to do it for such low reasons and for the benefit of such a jerk."

Heh, that Alistair/Dwarf modded sexytime looks just like Zevran/Elf sexytime! Awesome face expression for sure.

And geez, Zevran does not force anyone to have sex with Isabela (that's all on the warden and the whole thing has no relevance to the romance with him at all -- it's just some funny dialog). Lots of actual reasons to not like him; you don't have to make stuff up.

AND, hmmm, Alistair. Squeaky clean for sure, but isn't looking towards the future. It's a beautiful "for the moment, enjoy the first love" romance. Zevran's is more looking towards the future but not for everyone.

Leliana has the best kneeling kiss for Dwarves -- it's her standard kiss and I think it's sweet. Zevran has the hottest kneeling kiss (talking vanilla game), but you only get it under a particular circumstance. I don't count mods! Because they're you're looking at which modder's style you like best (and we have some amazingly talented modders here).

Anyway, I love that a dwarf is seen as beautiful and sexy (or virile and hot) by all races. I'm hoping that enough people were really enthusiastic about having their dwarf romance the humans and elf that they'll add a romancable dwarf companion in the future.

Cause dwarves are too sexy!

Having Zevran or Alistair get down on one knee to kiss the Warden is seriously hot.

I would be happy to see a dwarven LI, as long as it's done well. I think you could get a great story line out of a Legion of the Dead and a Grey Warden- both orders who are not supposed to think about a future- pondering a future together.

Now I've got the mental image of an amazing dwarven LI who I'm actually interested in but having to ditch him at the end because being a member of the Legion would not really work for the head of one of the most powerful Houses in Orzammar...some characters are just doomed to die single, I swear...

I hope Warden's are immune to STD's, because that's all they would get from Zev. :D

My Dwarf even tried going after Dwyn but no luck, not even with near max coercion.

I like Dwyn.  I'm not sure any of my elves or humans would rumble with him, but trading insults is not a bad way to flirt if you do it with flair.  As dwarves, per Dwyn and Oghren, seem to do!

Yeah, I kind of feel sorry for the girls (speaking of rp'ing) because they only get to choose between Alistair or Zevran (unless they play as a bisexual). Anyways, the men have no variety, though because we can only choose from two human females; although, they are way better than both men. They should've maybe stuck Valenna (that dalish in Awakening--I hope that's her name) in Origins so we could have more than one mage, and another optional romance for an elf male (still would make the dwarfs mad, though because they don't get a dwarf romance option lol). Oh well, I wonder what the romance options (if there is one) is in DA: 2.

Heh, I've always said the opposite.  I think the male players get the shaft, so to speak.  I played Morrigan's romance after having played some ten female characters and enjoying both Alistair's and Zevran's romances a great deal.  I was so used to getting the guy that the end of Morrigan's was hard to take.  I dragged my feet a long time on finishing that game and felt sooo badly for my mCousland.  :crying:  I hope the Morri men get some closure in future installments.

Then in Awakening same deal.  Sigrun is cute, but Velanna is... tetchy.  On the other side, you have Anders and Nathaniel who are pretty nice bits of manflesh and well-written characters.

My male noble ended up with Queen Anora. :D He also got the gay talk with Alistair for some reason...I guess Alistair thought my noble was trying to hit on him. That was very odd.

Oghren just tells you it is too soon or something if you try to go after him. Yes my female Dwarf tried going after any other Dwarf she could find, to no avail. She ended up alone at the end...wandering into the sunset with Shale and a dog.

The only romance option I was interested in was Morrigan and I already did that with my elf-mage so I'm kinda celibate with my other characters. I guess I'll just make a Dwarf noble that visits the pearl a lot.

I'd totally love a dwarf LI in a future game!

See, I'm a male player and I agree with you entirely: I find Alistair and Zevran far more satisfying romances than either of the female characters (and heck female Wardens get Leliana too anyway). I actually used to hate the Morrigan romance a lot, until I played it through purely as her friend and then initiated it at the end: I found her 'can we ever be more than friends, you and I?' speech a lot better than her initial romance lines, which were pretty off-putting for me. I haven't quite decided whether that character will go after Morri or respect her wishes like a friend would and leave her be, and then possibly go adventuring, maybe with Zev.

See, Sigrun is awesome, plus any romance would have the whole love versus duty thing. Anders and Nate are awesome though - both would make fantastic romances.
