Any reason why ME2 is $40 after only 6 months?

Dragon Age, and by extension Awakening, is an entirely different game made by a different studio with different people. The only common link is the name of the over-arching company. Likewise, Dragon Age is not a planned trilogy and therefore the expansion struggled to serve... well, a point. An ME2 expansion would no doubt bridge between ME3 and ME2 and would therefore serve an actual purpose, since it isn't simply an "after the credits roll" filler release.

I'd love an ME2 expansion and would happily shell out my semi-hard earned cash for it. Roll on.

Time for Facts because I hate these kinds of posts:

Mass Effect launched 11/20/07 so three years ago and has sold to date 2.23 million copes on Xbox. Source: http://www.vgchartz....ame.php?id=7635

Mass Effect 2 launched 01/26/10, this year, and has sold 1.81 million copies on Xbox. Source: http://www.vgchartz....me.php?id=28815

I think there is little thought that Mass Effect 2 is a flop, in less than 7 months it has nearly sold as many copes as Mass Effect 1 has sold over almost 3 years on the Xbox.

I think they just want to move copies and build up for big news hence the price drop and the demo. Keep the momentum rolling.

Are you seriously complaining about a price drop? $60 for a video game (that is on the same disk as DVD movies, which are about $20) is too much in the first place. Hell, Modern Watfare 2 should have been dropped in price a long time ago, because I'm sure Infinity Ward already got all their research and development money back from the sales, but their being too greedy to drop the price. All games should be reduced in price after developers get their R&D money back, but most companies are too greedy to do that. Praise Bioware for doing something reasonable.

I wish more games would drop their prices sooner, I can't even find a USED Red Dead Redemption for less than $50. Then again, I haven't really been looking that hard, but that's beside the point.

Infinity Ward being greedy? Most of the original company was fired by Activision to avoid paying them their bonuses. Blame Activision, not IW.

That is so true, IW is not to blame for the high price of game (heck the game studios/developers arent to blame for the prices at all (they just make the game)).
Down here Modern Warfare 2 is about $120nz (for the pc version  ($100 for MW1) and from what I have heard Starcraft 2 is also going to be about that price :crying:.

It should be $40 to start for PC - console button thumpers have to pay license fess ($7 to $10?? at wholesale) X 2 extra over pc version, so pc versions should be $15 or $20 less

PC games usually are at a discounted price. In Canada they are usually $10 cheaper than console ones.

After playing Awakening I don't think I'd mind it if Bioware just never tried making another expansion again...

They could do better than Awakening.

I'll fully admit my dissatisfaction with Awakening but that doesn't mean I'm not hopeful for an ME2 expansion. In fact, it makes me more hopeful. BioWare resolved every problem I had with ME1 they constructively listened to feedback and made a better game.

I'm actually quiet optimismistic that they can make a great expansion to ME2. One with a great story and antagonist. I know they can do it if they take their time and do it right. The problem is they may have to rush aspects of it simply due to the fact that there's ME3 on the horizon.....well....I keep thinking of BioWare as this smallish 1990s company in my mind despite the fact that they're quiet large and owned by EA now. EA resources can come in handly for things like this.

...so yeah, they take their time and we won't have a repeat of Awakenings.

By the way, Awakenings has a good middle section to it......that's about it though.

You guys are aware that mods are not developers right? Anything they say is not official. Don't get all excited for nothing. Granted, they may be making an expansion, but no official word has come out.

I was just wondering. You see other big titles that don't get discounts or anything, proof that they're still 'selling like hotcakes' at full price, like Modern Warfare for example. Anyways, you think an expansion is coming? I figured they'd stick with bite-sized DLCs.

Modern Warfare caters to a MASSIVE audience, one that will always buy a game that has COD stamped on it.  COD MW2 has barely been out a year and they're going to release Black Ops. Just take a look at their "map pack" and it's bloated price tag.  The way that company sees it, 70% of their fan base WILL buy the mappack, just for the sake of having anything new to play with their buddies. There's tons of cash in a Multiplayer style game, it's no wonder BioWare's making SWTOR MMO

COD is the new Madden, churning out a game every year or year an' a half.

And yes, an expansion is on the way. We'll see it before ME3 at any rate.

I don't think COD MW2 expansion will sell as well this time around. If I remember correctly my friends call it Modern Hackfare due to just about ever sever having hacks on. I think MW2 likely passed the orginal Counter Strike percentage of pop using hacks.

CoD Black Ops is releasing this soon is becouse Treyarch done it and not Infinity Ward and those guy might not do any CoD game do to arguements with Activision.
Activision owns CoD franchise and many game developers so they release CoD every year.
Infinity Ward did CoD 1, 2, 4 MW and MW2( crap).
Treyarch did CoD 2 Big Red One(crap), CoD 3( never on PC), CoD 5 WaW and CoD Black Ops.
Also they are more CoD games but non on PC( except great CoD 1 expansion United Offensive) by other developers.

This. Unless Priestly or another Bioware employee actually announces an expansion; I wouldn't start to get my hopes up.

Yeah, Javi's just reinforcing the fact that a while ago we heard that they were thinking about it.

That doesn't mean they're GOING to.

We know there's a Liara/Shadow Broker DLC that might come our way, but that's the closest you're going to get.

Don't get all hyped and excited only to get your hopes rained on.

I'm expecting an announcement on that DLC around September, to be released before Fallout: New Vegas.

If there's an actual expansion planned, they'd probably hint at that during the same time.

What do you mean thinking about it? Casey Hudson confirmed that they will do an expansion, but its going to come out closer to the release of ME3. So don't be looking for it any time soon. Mass 2 just came out this January. Let the game sink in a little before you start expecting an expansion.

You guys obviously forgot that javier was the go-to-guy for ME2 info. He knew a lot of stuff, and even got exclusive info before others did from what I heard. (Supposedly they made him sign an agreement to keep some info private). I wouldn't be surprised if he knew something we didn't. But that being said, Casey Hudson, like I said above, already said that an expansion would be released close to the release of ME3. So it's going to be a while until that happens.

Edit: Sorry for the double post.

Making an expansion for ME2 is going to be a little tough, but we'll see if they'll do it or not.

3 things.

Seeing that Mass 3 is supposed to come out late 2011 - early 2012, an expansion would likely be released in 2011. Look at #3 below for that. #'s 1 and 2 show Casey Hudson and Adrian Cho both confirming an expansion pack to bridge the gap between Mass 2 and 3. Someone on another thread said that Casey meant DLC packs, like Overlord. Well overlord wasn't a "potentially larger pack". It didn't tell a "big portion of the story" and it certainly didn't connect "Mass effect 2 to Mass effect 3" in any way. If you want to continue being pessimistic about Bioware releasing an expansion, be my guess. I'm not saying it's coming out in August or September like most of the people on here, but it's most likely going to come out some time 2011.

And given the article about EA's announcement, its early 2011. Especially since Hudson said that they weren't going to take a long time to make Mass 3. They started December 2009. Or at least I read that in one of the articles back then. Hudson said the development of Mass 3 will be along the lines of Mass 2, which was 2 years. So late 2011 or early 2012 Mass 3 will be released. After reading about when they plan to release the "potentially larger packs" that "tell a big portion of the story" and connect "mass effect 2 to mass effect 3" you'll notice that an expansion in 2011 is highly likely.

1. Casey Hudson: "It's tough to say how long we'll continue to do Cerberus Network in terms of the free content, for example. When you get Cerberus Network you get all this free stuff that's been released. On an ongoing basis we plan to have the whole spectrum, from a free item all the way up to paid stuff and potentially larger packs that tell a big portion of the story. And we want to do that in a way that connects 'Mass Effect 2' to 'Mass Effect 3.' I think we'll be pretty close to the release of 'Mass Effect 3' before we really start focusing on that as the next story."

2. Adrian Cho: "What I can say is that we're going to be offering a lot more range of content from maybe a weapon, a new gun to new armours, new helmets, side quests up to full expansion packs," ME2 producer Adrien Cho toldCVG. "So a lot more variety to keep players engaged. For someone who wants a new weapon, they can have one, but I'd want more hours for the Mass Effect universe and those are going to be in the pack."

3. EA: Click Here

I rest my case.
