Hate speech. I can't speak for your intent, but your use of that word fosters insensitivity.
Etymology: Middle English, from Old English hete; akin to
Old High German haz hate, Greek kēdos careDate:
before 12th century
1 a
: intense hostility and aversion usually deriving from
fear, anger, or sense of injury b :
extreme dislike or antipathy : loathing
2
: an object of hatred <a
generation whose finest hate had been big business — F. L. Paxson>
There is no hate speech in the op's statement. Maybe not the best choice of words, but not hate speech. Grow a thicker skin if you're over sensative to the word. That is you're problem, not the op's or anyone else.
You're trying to classify it as hate speech, because you don't like the word. Deal with it.
Once again, what the op said is not hate speech. If someone is "affected" in some way by a word(s) because they are over sensative, then that is their problem. Once again you are trying to classify it as hate speech, so you can therefore say it is against site rules, because you don't like the word. The word was not directed at any forum members btw either.lazuli wrote...
Yes, I know. But I'm not sure you understand how damaging hate speech is and how it works. Any number of people on these forums could be affected in some way or another by words you callously throw around. Please, try to be more sensitive and follow the rules of the boards. There are plenty of other words to use, words not
quite as loaded.
Quite the contrary, you are calling for censorship.lazuli wrote...

Oh please. Are you really sure that you mean this, or are you just using it as an excuse for your own pathetic fanboyism?
Ashley does not exist. She has no family members. Nobody except those that take the game way too seriously are going to get offended, and those people have serious problems.
I am guessing that it has nothing to do with the characters but with the word retard, I am guessing Lazuli is either mentally challenged or has sombody close to him that is mentally challenged and that is why he finds the word offensive.
Either that or he is just a retarded fanboi who takes criticism against his favorite characters as a personal insult

REALLY.
Not exactly the end of the world if you ask me. I know I've called Tali worse than that. I mean 'one-dimensional dweeb fantasy' trumps 'fart stink' in my book.

Just import level 50 and play ME2. This is my advice.

"console cheats" on pc ? Doesn't that get 'flagged' by the game somehow??
Also, does it matter at all what diffleculty level you play ME1 on as far as importing to ME2??
I'm thinking that if I don't make lvl 60 on my Hardcore 2nd playthrough, I'll do a "lightening" 3rd one on Casual, skipping most side quests, just enough to hit 60, but I'd prefer not to need that

My opinion truthfully is that Liara was by far a way more intresting character in ME 2 than she was ME 1. So my question was, since i've only ever done her love story, is Ashley's less cutesy smushy stuff or is it kinda the same?
I will say, without giving spoilers, the twist in the story line between shepard and liara's love relationship was a really intresting one and it makes me wonder will happen in ME 3 betwween those two. Think DARK LIARA!

To be perfectly honest, Ashley pretty much bought her ticket to go home in a box when she started spouting poetry at me. At least Kaidan doesn't annoy me incessantly.

Overall opinion? N7 Zachary was right to change from retard to fart sink - not because of offensivity, just because, well, I don't think anyone can refuse to laugh at that. lazuli loves censorship, JohnnyDollar's a lawyer, and Christmas Ape might need years of therapy to recover from the thread.

OP, the next time you try to make a thread and not have it go downhill, please be careful of the words you choose to convey your feelings.
I used to have the sailor mouth problem, but I'm long over it. Kinda ironic I'm the one doing this.
You should try again after this thread gets closed, but again, watch what you say, and re-read the rules of the forum so as to not break them and get suspended/banned for hate speech/inappropriate language.
And for those of you tossing that word around- don't.
Its not allowed. The more you think its okay to say and use, the bigger the problem gets.

You really think the thread needs to be closed because OP used the word 'retard'?
I find it more offensive that you immediately link any use of the word retard to mentally handicapped people. Thats like complaining when I call the night sky black, because it might be offensive to African-Americans. People are people, not labels. Words are words, get over yourself.
re·******–verb (used with object)
1. to make slow; delay the development or progress of (an action, process, etc.); hinder or impede.
–verb (used without object)
2. to be delayed.
–noun
3. a slowing down, diminution, or hindrance, as in a machine.
4.Slang: Disparaging . a. a mentally retarded person. b. a person who is stupid, obtuse, or ineffective in some way: a hopeless social retard.
5. Automotive, Machinery . an adjustment made in the setting of the distributor of an internal-combustion engine so that the spark for ignition in each cylinder is generated later in the cycle.
OP used the correct meaning of retard. If you had bothered to read what OP said, instead of jumping all over them for their political incorrectness, you might have realized that.
What you guys think? Doesnt Liara seem kinda too awkward. She's like goofy at times.
ie: socially retarded

"Is Ashley a *inflammatory word*" is only going to be taken one way, and its highly offensive.
Regardless of intent, its against the rules of the board to use such words.

If you see there as only being one way of taking the use of the word retard, I believe it says more about you than it does about the one who used the word.

Back on topic I say dont do another play through if you dont want to (you'll only miss out on a small bonus) Romance Ashley if you like real people who aren't silly and have a huge dorky crush when they meet you. (I like liara to but still.)
This thread gave me a goog laugh. (this was supposed to be funny right?) oh no...Thought police ...taking me away...help...!

- please everyone remember I truthfully did not mean to offend anybody. And i apologize a second time for it. it was meant as a funny remark towards a fictional character. and to be honest the more and more i read on about people getting upset at my first remark... well im going to call you out on something...Liara may not be a "fart stink"... but she is definitely a PUREBLOOD! oooohhh that stings doesnt it. Every asari now wants to kick my behind back beyind the veil!
please people dont be offended so easily. out of all the pain and suffering in this world dont be upset about some random person's opinion on a video game character. there is more to worry about. fight for the lost, not the ridiculous.
anyways i went on youtube and watched the video's with ashley. i kinda like liara's story more now. although im sleeping with Miri tonight! oh yea! so what you guys think Bioware will do with the conflicting relationships? I think probably you might have make a life or death choice between two love intrests or something close. ur thoughts?

I don't think that there will be much to it myself. You are not able break the relationship with the ME1 LI, unless you consider a romance scene at the end of ME2 a break up. I think Bioware is just giving you the choice to go with another LI, and nothing more.N7 Zachary wrote...
