The last game that realy made me "smell" and feel like i was 14 again with my mates cramped around a little table in a dark room playing Earthdawn, AD&D or Merp, was Baldursgate 2. From the loading screen on i was like under a spell. What I have seen so far of Dragon age looks promising, the character movement and skin looks amazing. What I havent been totaly convinced of yet is the "color" of the world, it looks dead, hopefully its just the qualety of the videos.

Anyone here tried the game yet, or seen it live? Just currious of how it looks and "feels"

I've seen it. It really depends on the area where you are.

The dungeons looks amazing and are a bit blue-ish, wasteland has beautifull green and browns colors.

It looks much more alive then The Witcher which was very dead looking imo.

This is more like guild wars =D

Well what do you mean by dead? There are a few vids that show city gameplay, It looks pretty fleshed out and lively to me.

If you mean outdoor enviroments... It's called a blight for a reason :P

Check out the ingame photos in the gamereactor Sweden thread. Plenty of life there, I think.

It will prolly be much better when I get to play it myself. One other thing, the armor and clothing, atleast on the character creation i downloaded, looks pretty dull to me. Dont get me wrong, im realy looking forward to playing Dragon Age, its just that something feels off with the clothing and armor part, atleast when the character head you create looks amazing.

One last thing before I stop my ranting, when will they start making weapon sheaths in games, I hate seeing my weapons dangle with no protection!

Best regards YDragGoth

As for now I've only seen screens and videos. Some locations looks definitely better than the others, but I'm pleased both with the indoors and the outdoors. I'm pretty much convinced we'll be satisfied with the environment once we get to play.

I remember reading an interview a couple of years ago shortly after DAO was announce and they were just getting started on developing that up unitl DAO, fantasy games have always been "pretty" - colorful, bright clothing and cities. The developers have said from the very beginning that they intend the DAO world to be dark and "gritty".

It makes sense and, in my opinion is much more "realistic" (as far as you can use that word in a fantasy RPG). Think of their world as if you were in it. There are no paved roads, no concrete, no blacktop - dirt - all dirt. Sure there are the few stone-paved roads in cities, but in that world that's the exception to the norm.

I think the DAO world will "feel" much more believeable than most previous RPGs for this reason more than any other.

That's my two cents...

I don't agree with the dull armor and clothes..I think they are superbly detailed, based off the ones I saw in the Char Gen and also screenshots.

I agree with the above post too that I think this game is going to feel more believable than other RPG's..

It's a dark fantasy rpg. The mood obviously is perilous and frightening in a lot of aspects from what I've seen. I did see one screen shot with a beautiful green field with some rolling hills and ruins scattered around. I get the feeling the general mood (if you mean that when you ask for "color") is dark and epic.

But with all good stories, it can't rain all the time.

Sort of torn on the armors. I'd like there to be a degree of reality so not everyone is running around in full plate armor, but I'd like the smaller armors (light and med) to look decent and not just strips of leather with steel rings every so often.

I heard that one problem was the high end armor looks too much like the rest of the regular armor.

I'm kind of glad that the armor isn't all colorful and incredibly shiny and the peasants aren't in flashy, colorful garb. That always irritated me in rpgs!

But, as to the natural surroundings, to me they look just fine. I think they'll help the immersion, not help break it.
