With the Edmonton team on holiday, celebrating Canada Day and the US team being out of the office on Monday to celebrate independence Day, this week's update is relatively short and doesn't contain new patch items. But we'll make sure to get you a full information update next week.

I know that some of you were hoping to have the patch ahead of the upcoming Leliana's Song DLC. Unfortunately, although we still do not have a release date, I can tell you that it will not be released before Leliana's Song. Hopefully, when everyone is back in the office next week, I can at least update you on where the patch is in the QA and certification process. I amalso  hoping to have the full copy of the patch notes in one of the next updates, along with remaining known issues and workarounds.

Previously reported:
• Fixed pick-pocketing. Characters were successfully stealing, but not receiving any items.
• It is no longer possible for the player to get blocked during gameplay by pursuing both candidates' quests in the Orzammar plot line.
• Instant +100 approval bugs for Awakening companions have been resolved.
• Anders, Sigrun and Velanna's personal quests will properly activate.
• Fixed an issue that would prevent an imported character from detecting traps.
• Red script will no longer appear in the place of tattoos.
• Power of Blood talent will be usable in Awakening.
• Game saves on Xbox 360 were being corrupted if you sold too many items to the same merchant. Saves will no longer be corrupted if you do this.
• Daggers will now properly assign the dexterity-based damage bonus
• Updated audio drivers to fix a number of audio related crashes.
• Switching between Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age: Awakening were resetting options to default settings.
• Multiple transitions in and out of Fade areas were multiplying the number of visual effects running, slowing down gameplay.
• Resolved a number of memory leaks that were causing crashes and increases load times.
• (Awakening only) Players may now receive notes of appreciation from former love interests.
• (Awakening Only) During the Assault on Amaranthine, a bug would
occasionally make some enemies invincible, which impeded game progress.
This no longer happens.
• (Awakening Only) Masterpiece and paragon
silverite runes are now weapon runes instead of armor runes.

(Awakening Only) The masterpiece slow rune is now available for purchase
from merchant stores.

Keep watching for additional details. At this time, we do not have a release date for the patch. Once that is set, we will update you on that.

Any word on whether or not bows will be fixed as well? (dex not being added as modifier)

Oh.. well..

We can do anything but wait then... It seems like my copy of Awakening will have to remain on my library again. Thanks anyway for the update.

Bah, I know the patch release date.

I was counting on my holidays to play the game, but it's unplayable for me in its current status (keeps crashing).

My holidays end on July 14th.

Patch will be released on July 15th.

QED.

Victor--

Thanks, and hopefully happy holidays to all the BW folks. I have at least some hope that the memory leak fixes and audio updates noted above will address the significant crash issues I continue to see. It also looks as though many (possibly most) of the other most significant bugs that can't be worked around are expected to have fixes in 1.04 which would be great news.

The three most significant issues (all Awakening-related) that I don't see in that list are related to imported/removed equipment:

1. Certain DLC gear does not properly get imported, but may be "absorbed into the skin" of the Warden.

2. If the Warden's DLC gear does not properly import, the "default Orlesian equipment" should be put in its place and is not

3. Bugs with Warden's equipment in Silverite mine.

As a PC gamer I can live without the dialogue/epilogue fixes that are corrected in mods, but I'm sure the console gamers will be unhappy. I continue to strongly recommend that any issues not fixed in 1.04 but which BW agrees are actual issues )for any platform, but particularly the cross-platform concerns) get at least some sort of status update within a week after the patch (even if it's "we agree it's real, but we don't have conclusive enough info to scope out the fix yet").

Here's a new issue I just ran into, unless it's by design: On a system with Origins and 1.02 installed, I can still play Origins just fine with my Origins disk. On a system with Origins and Awakening installed (and 1.03), I can't get daorigins.exe to start up at all with the (same, original) DA:O disk...it wants my Awakening disk (which got misplaced while waiting for this patch). Sort of...interesting...behavior, and different from the behavior on that second system before I installed Awakening/1.03.

Any idea if this patch will fix the memory leak issues that reappeared when awakenings came out?

Looking good so far; the biggest bugs seem to be addressed.

I am holding off on Qwinn's fixpack, because of 1.0.4. Would this fixpack still work to resolve any standing issues in 1.0.4, or would it revert parts of the new patch back to 1.0.3 and crash the game?

It could of course also be that Qwinn will remove the fixed stuff from the fixpack and release a new one as an addition to 1.0.4. If his fixpack is anywhere near the one he made for Planescape: Torment 10 years ago, then it'll be very good.

This is not an issue... It's normal.

Having installed the game + expansion the game search always for the game who contains the expansion..because it's the latest thing you installed. Therefore if you have DAO+DAA you can only play with the disk of Awakening.
But it's not a problem 'cause it doesn't prevent you from play your Origins game if you won't play Awakening yet

This would technically be "additional content", not patching. For srz, I'm tired of people requesting additional content for Dragon Age when the clear focus of this 1.04 patch is on bug squashing. If you want another sex scene, then go use a mod. Simple. The developing team has better things to do in their time than creating pointless, unnecessary animations.

Besides, the reason Morrigan, Zevran, Leliana and Alistair get these scenes is because they're special. They're the romantic interests. Iona, Dairren, Isabela, Gheyna, Cammen and the Noble Hunters? Just passing, relatively unimportant characters. Why put so much effort into them?

What annoys me is that you are making a fuss about a personal wish list; I never said it needed to be a patch nor was it a priority.  I was simply replying to Jean-Funk Van Damme and you took the comment out of context.  Posted Image

All those who are eagerly expecting this patch to come out soon please relax. The bug list Bioware has to deal with is apparently much longer than we are believed to think and getting rid of all the mentioned and not yet known bugs will definitely take a good few weeks. As I stated earlier, we can expect the desperately anticipated patch to see light of the day sometime in late August/early September. That is my "qualified guess". And because I have always been an optimistic mind, I estimate the release date at the sooner-than-you-think 22nd of August.

Well, at least THERE WILL BE A PATCH....^^

And although I often criticise the programmer-gamer connection on this forum I think the Alpha Protocol gamers would still envy us.

As long as it doesn't make my game crash like the 1.03 patch does... I'll be happy. Thank you Bioware for your hard work. I just pray the DLC's will get better and more story focused...

Anyway.. I don't know if this thing works for all other user but maybe it is worth to try....

Last week I did my only playtrough of DAO with 1.03. patch... Before I played only Awakening with 1.03 while all my DAO playtroughs was with 1.02

I completed Redcliffe and Magi Tower, and at that point of the game I had already suffered more or less 20 crashes.. I disabled sounds effects, not the audio of my pc and not the music or the dialogue. Just sound effects on the audio menu of the game and I keep active dialogue and musics.

I managed to finish the game with only 1 crash, during a battle in Deep Roads...

I trust that for some games and some computers, like mine, is just some kind of sounds who make the game to crash. Therefore, until you wait for 1.04 you can try this...

Since I want to play the Leliana DLC likely before 1.04 comes out, I'll have to try turning off sound effects since 1.03 always ends up with crashes to desktop when casting certain spells...

Victor, posting known issues and workarounds is a great idea, very helpful to have that info from come from BW. maybe even add that info into the patch notes as well?

I'll jusyt say that the lack of an at least tentative timeframe for release, after all this months and with the continuous stream of paid DLC you're pushing out, is a shameful state of affair.
Seriously, Bioware, it's time to look into the dusty drawer to see if you can find the professionalism that you seem to have lost a few years back.

Seriously. Customer satisfaction is an issue that nowadays should be taken a little more seriously.

PS: when they're backlogged actual professionals can actually skip vacations. Just saying...

I know I'm sounding like a broken record here, but the memory leak issues you mention being fixed... Does this mean that the delayed death bug is fixed? As a game coder myself, I suspected that to be a memory leak the moment I saw it.

While I agree with you about releasing DLC before the core game's out of beta, I disagree about a timeframe.  Once they say a date, that date is set, and only what they can fix by then will be fixed.  By not stating a date, they're able to fix as much as possible.  Stating a date would mean that we get less.

OMG I don't like the sound of this......it's starting to sound like they are nearing the release of the patch without any word about fixing the textures of the sentinel armor, vigilance sword and without any word about fixing the dwarf origin's inability to keep the preorder and bonus items.

DO NOT tell me to uninstall Warden's Keep in order to get the sentinel armor and vigilance sword to show properly because I will go on a mad destructive frenzy.

Seriously, an entire week without a single resolved issue to show for it? This does not inspire confidence in hopes that the patch will be seen anytime soon or that it will be in any way comprehensive. It makes one wonder just what kind of resources Bioware has dedicated to this patch. I certainly hope it is more than a single person. However, the rate at which progress is seemingly being made, this is precisely what I suspect.

How about the % Increase to healing armor not working? That should probably be fixed too since so many armor pieces have it on there.

Edit: And let's not forget that Leliana's personal quest is bugged where you can skip right past it on your way through approval with her. Considering the new DLC it seems like she should have her story patched in the actual game.
