By the way, thanks in advance for telling us the "inminent" patch release date that we have been waiting for several months...

PS3 and 360 you mean? Game is really bugged, but it's not broken. It's playable.
It's releated to the PC witch has far way more issues due to many differnt system configuration. It's not a set in stone "hardware" that the PS3 and 360 are. Yes it is very Broken on the PC side of the scope.

I'm starting to wonder if one of the reasons it's taken so long for this patch being worked on is that they had everyone working on DA2 and next to nothing focused on patches/fixes for DA. Announcing DA2 already makes me worry that this will be the only "real" patch that we'll see and then that'll be it. Either way from what I've seen from this game DA2 is going to be one to rent first, then wait a few months to see the bug list, and then decide if it's worth buying. Totally the opposite of the way I thought before this game was released, which was to basicly preorder every game they released. I can only hope that they learned enough from this game not to repeat the same mistakes with DA2, because if they do it again they will lose a lot of fans for good.
Well, I can't deny that I'm disappointed with the fact that we don't get to create our own character, but have to go with some preset. But hopefully that kind of focus (knocks wood) will mean fewer bugs (at least of the "this is only impacting Dwarf noble origins" type)? It sounds like DA2 is going to be similar to ME2, with swords and armor instead of spaceships and guns.
Not really sure how I feel about that. I'd like for the decisions my DA:O warden made to have SOME impact on the world, but...

Don't panic. From what I've read, your character's name is pre-set (Hawke), but you can choose your gender and class.

That's really limited. Anyone else finds the name a bit well, mundane? I like birds of prey but adding an 'e' doesn't make it cool...
I must say that I have serious misgivings about the direction the
franchise is taking (becoming more like Mass Effect which may be a good
game but definitely not the sort of games I enjoy). It also raises the
question whether DAO will still be supported once DA2 will be released.
Back on topic, I wish we'd get more information on the next patch for DAO as all that talk about DA2 is fine but not very enlightening as far as DAO is concerned.

Yeah it does kind of sound like ME2 and fable mixed together, my biggest worry is that they will "dumb it down" to mainstream it and take most of the rpg elements out. That was my biggest problem with ME2, the leveling felt so dumbed down from the original, it was like playing a shooter with minor rpg elements. Haven't seen enough about DA2 yet though, but I worry that it will follow the same trend.Frogman1975 wrote...

I'm afraid I interpret that a different way. Simplifying the game because it had the potential for "problems" means they're basically taking the easier way out. It'll have fewer bugs because it has "less" of a game.
Just my 2 cents...
That is actaully my worry too, basically; that instead of a rich "what is going to happen next?" story, we'll have a more limited and predicatable experience.

Yeah. I've actually not even finished ME2 yet, even though I'm waiting for the DA patch and holding off on DA: Awakening progress until it comes, because it just didn't hold my attention like the first ME. So I hope they don't go that route.
I suppose there are still some console games from other publishers I have that I've not finished yet, but I think my PC is starting to get jealous of the PS3...

I'm starting to wonder that as well, though it depends on how many more updates we get for the patch I guess, because once it's actually finished it has to go through certification from Sony/MS before it can even be released on the consoles, and that could take a while. I worry about how much support this game will get after the patch is out, with DA2 coming out early 2011, and they are working on ME3 as well, I worry that this will be it for patches and it will be swept under the rug in favor of focusing on DA2/Me3 and more dlc.Frogman1975 wrote...

I have a feeling that we are getting information not from internal QA, but from the console makers themselves about it, through Bioware, though I could be mistaken.

Hey, how about some news on the patch? Now its not only DLC that will be the excuse to ignore patching the existing game/expansion, but yet another title. Today was not a great day for this BioWare fan.
Just sayin.

It's not being very well supported now, let alone after sequel comes out. At least, that's what I feel. I know Bioware, not just EA, has multiple geographically seperate "offices" and entities, but I still feel that the company has diverted resource away from things like DA towards a certain coming massively multiplayer flagship product. Bioware isn't Blizzard, so something has to give.
Whether my hooey is right or wrong, the fact remains plenty people are still waiting for a patch to fix some things that have been not working right since release over half a year ago. Not to mention the things that the previous patch broke. If support is this bad now, what do you think it's going to be like next year?

I'm quite sure that many will guess without me even consuming my fingertps on my keyboard further.
One thing is for sure, patch nonwithstanding, they better NOT go the ME2 route. I'm totally uninterested in playing a mindless action game with SOME RPG elements. Another dumbed down game for the sake of "going mainstream" or "streamlining" and Bioware's crossed out in my book.
