I must say that I have serious misgivings about the direction the
franchise is taking (becoming more like Mass Effect which may be a good
game but definitely not the sort of games I enjoy). It also raises the
question whether DAO will still be supported once DA2 will be released.

It's not being very well supported now, let alone after sequel comes out.  At least, that's what I feel.  I know Bioware, not just EA, has multiple geographically seperate "offices" and entities, but I still feel that the company has diverted resource away from things like DA towards a certain coming massively multiplayer flagship product.  Bioware isn't Blizzard, so something has to give.

Whether my hooey is right or wrong, the fact remains plenty people are still waiting for a patch to fix some things that have been not working right since release over half a year ago.  Not to mention the things that the previous patch broke.  If support is this bad now, what do you think it's going to be like next year?

If you looked at my previous posts you may have noticed that I share your sentiment regarding patch 1.03.

My concern is that DAO may end up receiving even less support when DA2 will be released...

I must say NWN was great as far as patches are concerned. Years after its release players enjoyed constant patching introducing many new elements for a richer gaming experience I can only wish that support for DAO will be of the same magnitude.

Agreed, but I would bet a stack of gp *this* high it won't be.

I agree about NWN1. It too had major bugs after release. Even after the final 1.69 update, there's at least one significant and a few minor bugs (but for anyone I know still playing no show-stoppers). But it still had a lot of support for a long time.... I only wish that Infinite Dungeons had been updated and was still available....

I hope there is another update on the patch tomorrow, with new confirmed bug fixes. I'm looking forward to a replay of Origins + Awakening, and I am going to wait for the patch to come out first.

I'm not even going to say what I think of the revelation of a sequel while we still don't know when this damn patch will be released.

I'm quite sure that many will guess without me even consuming my fingertps on my keyboard further.

One thing is for sure, patch nonwithstanding, they better NOT go the ME2 route. I'm totally uninterested in playing a mindless action game with SOME RPG elements. Another dumbed down game for the sake of "going mainstream" or "streamlining" and Bioware's crossed out in my book.

geez Abriael .....finally a short rant post that actually makes sense and is not a long philosophical sermon. I must applaud now!

well in less than a day we should have 2 weeks worth of updates...i really hope it is worth it! Image IPB

I completely agree, games being "mainstreamed" just for a few more sales is getting annoying, what ever happened to hard games? Games where you actually had to plan and think how you would build your character. While I did enjoy ME2 I really hated the new leveling system, less powers, less choices, no strategy at all about how your character will level, since by the end you can easily max everything. I really worry that DA2 will follow the same route, already the race selection is gone and it's just been anounced, but it's still early so I'm not rushing to any conclusions.
I do hope the updates tomorrow are the last and that one of them will be that the patch has been sent to MS/Sony for certification, well that and that dex will be fixed for bows....nine months waiting to build a pure archer is quite annoying. Image IPB

Today's update I reckon is a 50/50 chance of saying "sequel coming, patch aborted. This has been fun, lets do it again with the next game"

Off-topic, I realize, but Blizzard is busy with their own brand of crazy at the moment. :P I wouldn't want to be working for either company right now, to be honest, and I used to think that working for either one would be pretty fantastic.

On-topic, waiting to hear this week's patch update.

Yeah, hopefully they will learn from this game and do some better QA and testing, as it is right now for me, any future games they release are on the "wait and see" list. I'd much rather see a delay if there are problems rather than the "release now,  fix later" approach. Also, if it does need patching hopefully it won't take 9+ months, we'll just have to see what happens.

No need for such negativity! Mistakes in life are not always wrong, think of them as a stepping stone to make Dragon Age 2 better :P

It will be interesting to see how much this patch improves the gameplay. I'm on my third run through on hard so any improvements before I get to Nightmare mode would be awesome

There's plenty of need for negativity, considering we've had ****-all for support for the past 8 months.

Don't panic. From what I've read, your character's name is pre-set (Hawke), but you can choose your gender and class.

That's really limited. Anyone else finds the name a bit well, mundane? I like birds of prey but adding an 'e' doesn't make it cool...

[...]

Yes, it is very limited. It is like it was only possible to chose the Cousland-story in Origins 1.

The good thing with that, is that is that they can focus all on that story and make it stronger, AND there is less chance for story/dialogue bugs. We will probably also have a talking main character, something that will make the cutscenes better.

What worries me most is that it feels a bit rushed. I know for sure that I wont buy this game before players confirm that there are no gamebreaking bugs like in Origins 1.

Also looking forward to see the first screenshots. I really hope they keep the realistic graphic style and not make it more like an anime (like some rumors says).

But back OT: I hope for a new update tomorrow where they confirm story/dialogue fixes and a release date. I have been months without Dragon Age now, and I miss it a lot.

I'm sorry BioWare, but it is hard for me to get excited about this announcement when all I can think about is the bad taste Awakening left me with. I hope this patch works miracles or I doubt I will be interested in Dragon Age 2. Color me skeptical at this new revelation.

Eh, if they can fix the issues with this engine, I'd vote for them keeping it for DA2. Less technical development needed and more time can be devoted to story. Plus PC modders wouldn't need to learn yet another tool set.

Personally, I think the DA franchise is trying to move too much too soon. Books, comics, PnP games, and a movie. In addition to the game itself and all its DLC thus far. It's fairly obvious they want DA to be as big or bigger than D&D, but they need to rebuild their rep with their original fan base first. Comics and cartoons are good to draw in the kids, but most parents are a bit leery of buying a ten your old an M-rated game, especially when seeing the forums full of bug reports and people foaming at the mouth. We're all guilty of it at one point or another.

As of now, I spent $30 something on a game I basically can't play, because of a patch I was forced to install, and it has been too long now for me to continue to give benefit of the doubt here.

I don't want a massive patch, i want one that fixes the thing so that I can play it beyoune my first AOE casting.

To be honest, I'm more of a sandbox RPG player.  I haven't played any Bioware games since NWN1, but I thought I'd give DA:O a try, and found that I enjoyed it.  However, if this inability to resolve what is for me, a gamebreaking bug in a timely manner, then I have better choices out there.

Man I hope we get a patch update today.....and that it confirms the following needed fixes:

1) The Sentinel armor and Vigilance sword textures

2) Dwarf origins properly getting to keep their DLC bonus and preorder items past the origin story

I haven't played Dwarf recently, but (2) is still broken?!  I thought they had listed that as fixed on a prior patch?

I don't suppose there's a way to enter Stone Keep after you close the veil?

Because that would be great.

People like to **** and play the martyr, online.  Been happening since forums existed and happens on every game forum, no matter how good the game is, there is always a vocal minority who complain.

Want some real fun?  Visit the Total War series forums.  LOL...then you will see some hardcore whining.  You would think people have better things to do all day then to play and/or post about video games that they apparently can't play.  Pathetic, if you ask me...
