I don't get why people hate on Alistair.

He actually has a parallel to the landsmeet after your capture on the Hawk. He goes crazy and it takes everyone else on board to stop him for losing it. I actually felt terrible realizing that I was a monster who made Vader look like a cheerleader. IN the end he gets over it, sad that AListair wont it seems if you spare him.

If you were forced to recruit her by, I don't know, Varel or the monarch then would you have said 'Fine, go find a new Arl' and left to go become a wandering drunk? If not then I don't think it's quite the same.dream_operator23 wrote...
The point I was trying to make is that there are people here that won't recruit Velanna just because she annoys them. I am hoping that they are not the same people that hate on Alistair for not wanting to recruit Logain who turned his back on Duncan, the Wardens, and King Cailan. And then say Alistair should have done it because the Wardens take anyone.

I don't think it's the same thing, at least not entirely. There's a very legitimate reason not to recruit her. She wants to become a Grey Warden simply to have the ability to sense darkspawn so she can find her sister. She doesn't want to dedicate her life to fighting the darkspawn, she wants a skill that only wardens possess to help with an entirely personal mission. The wardens don't seem to be in the business of putting people through the joining simply so they can leave and go on their own little quests. That's what annoyed me about her, not the rudeness (since unless you're playing a dalish elf they're all rude to you anyways). Most of my Wardens look at her and think "I've lost my family/true love/chance at having children/hope for a normal life because of this and you act like you're asking to borrow a pair of shoes?!"dream_operator23 wrote...

And yes, she does come around depending on how you handle her personal quest and interact with her, but based on the initial request to join there really isn't a lot of reason to have faith in her as a potential member of the Grey Wardens.

Hey, I think Alistair was wrong too when it came to not wanting to recruit Logain, but I am consistent about it. I recruit Velanna as well.

It should have a pic about Loghain and say something like "NO ONE SEES ME COMING"
with just like Ostagar under it.

Another thread derails into a Loghain debate. I swear I should make a meme pic about this.

Loghain = the Spanish Inquisition
Nobody expectes the Loghain. Our chief weapon is surprise.

But there are few points that seriosly lower my opinion of him:
1) I just don't get why he is so fixated on Duncan, considering that he knew him for only few months. His reaction when he learns that PC is not happy with being a warden is also obnoxios.
2) There is nothing wrong about companions disagreeing with PCs desidions. Heh, I love them for it. However, Alistair manages to get angry over the desidion he, himself, suggested. Now that's weird.
3) Landsmeet. Alistair is the only reason that it is impossible to get a truly happy ending. The. Only. Reason.

You know, I feel exactly the same. To me a perfectly happy ending would have Alistair and Anora on the throne and Logain would redeem himself by giving his life to kill the Archdemon. Only Alistiar stands in my way of this perfect ending. I still love him though.

That's entirely possible, you know, you just have Alistair hating you if Loghain survives and still awkward around you if he redeems himself.dream_operator23 wrote...

Yes, I know it can be done, but I don't want Alistair hating me. That's really childish I know, but I can't help it.

HeeHee! I love Alistair and Logain both. I think I am one of the few, few that does. XD
I can't say I really like Loghain. I like the character and the whole story of how his fears drives him to almost destroy the country he's trying to save. There's a lot of Macbeth in Loghain's character. But I don't think my PC's ever really like him, even if some of them do gain a large measure of respect for him.
I think Alistair is a far, far more likeable person. He's usually a real friend to my PC on my plays, maybe like a little brother even. That doesn't stop me from sparing Loghain on a lot of plays though.
I think the way I usually play my Grey Wardens, I can't let personal friendship come in the way of doing what I think is best to stop the Blight, and I'm counting on Alistair to do the same, which unfortunately he can't make himself do at the Landsmeet. By this I don't mean that others can't make a good case for that killing Loghain is the best way to stop the Blight, it's just that I often don't feel like that.
I don't want to hate Alistair for failing if I pardon Loghain. It's so easy to hate him then, but for me that would just be the easy way out, to insulate myself from the real heartbreak of the situation. My original HNM PC would probably forgive him in a second if Alistair just showed up and apologized for quitting.
