Hey guys hit my first stumbling block.

Devera in the Alienage compund, the chick who you speak to when your looking for the elf slaves.

I cant defeat her no matter what i do and cause its part of the main story line im stuck ;(
there are 5 tevinter soldiers 3 archers and Devera in a small room which u cant get out of until u defeat her i assume.

My party consists of:

Tank
DPS Tank
Mage
Healer

Usually when the fight sequence begins all soldiers attack my main tank, i try to get a paralysis spell off but im always stunned either by a soldier or  Devera. I usually get paralysis off the second time i cast it but by then my tank is dead. Mind you this has all happened in about 10 secs. Ive tried diff char as tanks and dps tanks but same outcome main tank dies almost immediately. Mage is always stunned at start so no helpful spells are available until its too late. What am i doing wrong. Ive tried attacking Devera that doesnt help i tried paralysis and using aoe spells but that just aggros them all onto my mage he dies followed by healer when that happens. Im just so frustrated that i cant get past this one friggen thing. Please help me.

Play with pausing as often as you need. Use your spellcasters to freeze enemies, using Cone of Cold, Winter's Grasp and Crushing Prison or even Petrify.

You can use the glyph of paralysis and the glyph of repulsion, but lay them quickly after pasung game.

Ive used a well placed Blizzard against Devera and her minions (basically the spell against the far wall) while dealing with the thugs in melee. Had Leliana to remove those nasty traps before dealing with Devera and keep the healer alive.

IIRC, you don't have to fight her. You can talk her down.

You need a high strength check to intimidate her I believe to skip the fight.

But as for fighting, you'll need to rely on a bit of crowd control. I always had Morrigan put the archers and Devera to sleep but if you have paralysis this could be equally helpful. Be wary of the traps in the door frame, I'd just not send any characterse into that side of the room since it can be tricky to disable traps mid-fight. If you can get the mobs to bunch up and blast them with cone of cold or a stun around your mage, then you can pick them off pretty easily. Devera is by far the biggest threat in the room (you can move out of range of the archers slightly if they wake up). I usually put my two heavy armour wearer on the easy mobs, my archer rogue keeps Devera busy, and mage takes out the archers. It does require a good bit of pausing until you nail down a strategy that works for you.

I just recently did this part. It was tough, but not impossible for me. Knowing what other spells you have would help.

I fireballed the archers to knock them off their feet and then put an Inferno in their room. Meanwhile, I had Wynne set a Glyph of Repulsion around the more squishy members of the party to keep the soldiers back. An Arrow of Slaying from Leliana took off a huge chunk of Devara's health, while Alistair kept their attention focused on a single, heavily armoured target. After that, I just tried to keep as many enemies incapacitated as possible while I killed them off one by one, using Stonefist, Petrification, Force Field and Crushing Prison.

I was able to intimidate her as an arcane warrior, guess my Magic counted for strength there (like it should).

the other time as a duelist I killed all the worker bees first and fast as possible, then ganged up on the queen bee.

Did this fight yesterday and it is tough. Here is my tactic and setup. PC, a sword and shield warrior with also a lot of archery talents, Alistair, his standard sword and shield build, Leliane, talents in dual wield, archery, deft hands, all the rogue things, and Morrigan. Morrigans important spells in this fight are, glyph of repulsion, cone of cold and paralyze.

The first and most important thing is to get to the corner where the archers cannot hit you. You need some luck here. Lay down a glyph of repulsion. You now have some relative safe ground. Use ranged attacks to take out the soldiers. Try to freeze/paralyze the boss girl. Use poisons and grenades or/and let Morrigan use her AoE spells.

When all the soldiers are dead, I focus fire on the girl. When she is down I go after the three archers behind the table. They have scattershot so a bow shoot out can be frustrating. I clear one trap and rush in with one of my warriors.

It is crucial to survive the first 15 seconds of this fight and get yourself out of the firezone of the archers. I don't have a healer, so I use health potions.
