i was doing some theory crafting for my next play through
and the build i wanted to go is a blood mage/ arcane warrior i wanted to know
if blood magic (health being used as mana for casting spells) was considered a
spell and if the damage done to myself by casting spells could be absorbed by
shimmering shield/spell shield.

Notes

Blood Magic :For as long as this mode is active, the blood mage sacrifices health to
power spells instead of expending mana, but effects that heal the blood
mage are much less effective than normal

Shimmering Shield: The arcane warrior is surrounded by a shimmering shield of energy that
blocks most damage and grants large bonuses to armor and all
resistances. When active, however, the Shimmering Shield consumes mana
rapidly.

Spell Shield: While this ability is active, any hostile spell targeted at the caster
has a 75% chance of being absorbed into the Fade, draining mana
instead. Once all mana has been depleted, the shield collapses.

you are already answering ur question, epic fail

"any hostile spell targeted at the caster

has a 75% chance of being absorbed into the Fade"

using your health as mana does not count as a hostile spell, in fact, its a sustained ability

To OP:

1. Learn to Spell.

2. Can't protect yourself from your own Blood Magic.

3. Can't protect your allies from Blood Sacrifice (DAMAGE_TYPE_PLOT).

4. Key to fun Blood Magic is fixing Blood Sacrifice to be useable on ALL ALLIES and not just party members. The NPCs can do this, and it is written in the spell description, but the spell itself does not allow this by default; look in my project to find a fix.

5. Blood Sacrifice probably benefits from the "+% to healing effects" items, so wear them. I.e. Dalish Promise Ring etc.

6. Learn to spell...

I'm wondering this myself but first I have a question, how did you make your character look like that Malcro?

All you should know for now is that AW/BM works like this: Mana is used for sustained spells only, and BM for activate spells. But otherwise it's your game so do as you wish. Bump just Everything into Magic thou.
