I know trap-making increases the range of detection but without that skill can you still detect traps at all? If so, how? Also, how do you search these forums? Posted Image Thanks.

I don't think you can detect traps w/o trapmaking. When you have trap-making, the character says "there's a trap ahead" and you can see it. Otherwise traps are invisible.

You can detect traps without trapmaking as lily in my team can do it , but as far as to answer your question I've no idea how :) , she does not have the trapmaking skill in my game.

My non-trap rogue can detect a trap ~1/round. He can disarm flimsy traps without any trap making. I don't know what stat is influencing this. I suspect Cunning for some reason. I should probably look it up, but I'm just putzing around right now.

Why the **** does no one know this? Trap detection is determined by survival. It says it in the damn description.

rogues can naturally detect traps, and having the unlock/disarm trap talents seems to increase your ability to notice them. (I started noticing them on my rogue much more often after getting mechanical expertise).

trapmaking ability  helps in locating

picklocks helps n disarming.

I guess cunning is how well you actually can do either...

@Nassou er, no. Survival says it increases your ability to detect enemies, not traps.

What would be nice: When a party member spots a trap, the others will avoid it as part of their tactics. Yes?

Do they? Not as far as I can tell, but when we encounter traps, there's about 1.5 dozen of them in a small area, so it's possible they're hitting them before my rogue spots them, but I could swear I've had party members step into spotted traps after leaving combat (and have strong suspicions they do that during combat, but my focus is divided at that time).

I read too fast for my own good ti seems. I think survival helps though. My dalish had survival and detected them a lot better than my human rogue.

Deft Hands talent's description says it makes the rogue able to detect traps.
Level 2 and 4 of the Trap-Making skill's description says it increases the range of trap detection.
The Survival skill's description does NOT say anything about traps, only animals.

But the odd thing is that only my Dalish rogue (with Survival and Deft Hands, but no Trap-Making) have ever been able to detect a trap. My Human and my Dwarf rogues (both with Deft Hands and no Survival or Trap-Making) have never been able to detect any traps.

It's also a bit unclear if it is dex or cun (or both) that effects trap detection. Deft Hands list both stats.

It's cunning. Yes it is never mentioned clearly anywhere but a high cunning attribute will increase your chances of detecting (and disarming) traps. Trap making and deft hands merely provide small bonuses.

I can attest to numerous playthroughs that the only way to spot traps is to have an adequate cunning stat. I had a cunning rogue (which was a BLAST to play) that I also put 4 pts into trapmaking and he was able to spot them, disarm them, and make the best. It IS a disappointment that I I have maxed stealth on my dex rogue and when I sneak around to lay out a minefield for the npcs that I stumble into a trap which then breaks my stealth. Arrrgh.

So to be able to handle traps PROPERLY you HAVE to invest in cunning points , and max your stealth. Max trapskill to make your own so that you dont have to constantly leave freaking Denerim to go to camp to pick up another party member with trap skills to make you a slew. This will allows you to strategically place traps for the enemy, disable theirs, all before combat begins.

I also think that if you have max traps that when you disable an enemy trap, the components should go into inventory.Posted Image

You stand on them to detect them.
