This new Halo:Reach video has me hankering for some Space Combat in ME3. Think of the possibilities!

I mean, the Reapers are very very large, it seems improbable that 1 man can take them all down via 3rd person shooting. A bit of space action seems very probable. Give us a fighter on board the normandy!

You could use the fighter above planets on escort missions, defense missions and offense missions... It'd be awesome.

It'd also be a great excuse to bring back all those awesome sky boxes that the UNC planets had in ME1. They were beautiful. Even though i didn't miss the empty planets, I did miss the views.

If that can't happen then at least give us a turret on the normandy so we can participate in the battles a little bit!

Basically, there's going to be space battle action in ME3, the story requires it. So rather than it all being cutscenes, let us participate!

Thoughts?

Also: this in the mass effect universe would be amazing

=========================================================

So, apparently Casey has said in an interview they'd like to have combat at some point in the trilogy. Well, that only really leaves DLC or ME3, so bring it on i say.

The Casy Hudson interview about space combat for the people who wanted to know:

Here at 03:30.

And here, for the people who just want to read.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For the Devs, if they happen to come across this thread at all:

Having been playing Rogue Squadron recently, there's 1 thing that you really need to include. A decent HUD with Target Highlight toggle.

Dogfighting in above land is great, you have a horizontal plane to stay aligned to and the ground and sky give you a point of reference, also, enemies are easy to spot.

In space, there's no point of reference, and spotting grey/black fighters on a black background is a right pain in the ass. So, all i ask is give the Y button over to target highlight.

That's all really. Bring on the space combat!

Space combat would be sweet. You could have space battles with batarians raiders and save the slaves. BioWare could come up with alot of fun stuff like that.

I just think a space combat mission around the citadel would be amazing, more than any other location in the galaxy.

I'm kind of hoping for more Captain Picard and less Luke Skywalker for space combat in ME3. By that I mean, rather than taking a turret or flying a fighter, you give orders to the crew of the Normandy on what to do. To me, that just seems to fall more into the idea of being the Commander of the SSV Normandy.

There could be a lot of paragon/renegade choices (or even interrupts) made that way too.

you do know that the normandy is made for STEALTH missions and is not meant to be a fighter? i dont see that making much sense, but i think you should be able to tell joker where to move or something during battles. that would make it fit i think, but then again my opinion is just one kind of possibility

I'm not suggesting using the Normandy. The normandy is a frigate, not a fighter. I'm suggesting it having a fighter kept in the hangar, like the hammerhead and the kodiak.

The Normandy SR-1 made the killing blow in the first game and the upgraded Normandy SR-2 has even stronger weapons. It's the Widow Sniper Rifle-using Infiltrator of Alliance ships.

EDIT: Gunships, jetpacks and StarFox space combat please

The only space combat I want to see is in cinematics. This is a RPG and a Shooter, not a space battle simulation game.

I gotta disagree, vehicles were a huge part of ME1, they're a large part of ME2's DLC and they're more than likely going to be back in the main plot for ME3 based on recent interviews about overlord.

Gunships would be awesome. They should let us control one of those shuttles shepard takes everywhere around the citadel and illium as well. Hover car chase yes please.

The vehicles are fine. But piloting an entire ship in a battle? I dunno. Just breaks the game in my opinion. It steps too far from what a shooter/rpg should be. The Normandy is a lot different then the Mako or Hammerhead.

it might be a good idea, but judging from their land vehicles, it might not be good enough to be fun to put in and be in somewhere else

but then again, i might be wrong... so you never know

Yes, but as i said earlier, it'd be a fighter launched from the normandy, ala the mako or hammerhead. Not piloting the normandy itself. That's joker's job.

Have you played KoTOR? BW cannot be trusted to pull off space combat correctly.

God I hope not, I would rather they focus on stories and characters then getting a space fighting mini game up and running.

LOL, I find the above statement very funny.

What I'm really fearing is that the conflict will be resolved in ME3 via some Deus Ex Machina just like a badly written Doctor Who episode.

Don't let me down Bioware!

I have played KoTOR, a very long time ago though.

I honestly think if they can refine the 3rd person combat to the smooth well designed gameplay it is now, they can refine vehicular gameplay. They just have to get the team to focus on getting it right, much like they did for 3rd person.

Inevitably, the dark energy (which will somehow be placed by Shepard in the main Reaper) will set off some chain reaction, destroying the entire Reaper fleet. It is so incredibly obvious in ME2 what's going to happen. We don't need to worry about ship combat.

We already have a good team at our disposal.

Unless we're going to defeat Harbinger by solving his daddy issues.

That sounds more like the ending to Independence Day (the movie). I'd rather solve Harbinger's daddy issues.

By the way - Happy 4th of July, everyone!

Happy 4th to everyone as well.

But yeah; as hackneyed as it is, they hinted at it so much that it seems like the Reaper solution is going to be one big plot trainwreak.

Harbinger: My father! He was never there for me! He abused my mother, kicked me out of the house when I was just a tiny ship!

Shepard: Don't worry. I'll bring this villain to justice.

Or it could be one epic galactic battle.
