I think lack of communication between writers is the probable cause.

http://masseffect.wi...m/wiki/Timeline
http://masseffect.wi...e_is_suspicious
http://masseffect.wi...iotic_Abilities

Facts of the case:
Zaeed served in the Alliance Military, explored the Terminus systems, and more
Zaeed was born in 2145
Zaeed co-founded the Blue Suns in 2160
Zaeed is 40 years old

If
Zaeed were born in 2145, there is no way he could have founded a
merc group in 2160. He'd be 15 years old (!!!). Aside from that being ridiculous, the Ailliance
military is not some hackjob, 3rd world operation that takes child soldiers. He could not have been able to enlist and do all that other stuff if he were what, 10-12?

The
big point aside, he definitely looks 50-60ish but the timeline states
that by the events of Mass Effect 2 he'd only be 40 (as stated on the
official site). Since the age of 40 does not work due to the above reasons, his DOB ought to be moved back at 10-15 or so years.

Similar issues arise for Miranda Lawson. She was born in 2150 and is thus 35 years old (Events of ME2 occur in 2185). Now, I quote the wiki:

"Everything, from her intelligence, physical constitution, biotic
abilities, to her appearance were designed before birth to be excellent."

With emphasis on the biotics, this seems impossible. Before birth? Only in the 2150's did humans even discover biotics, let alone grasp a clear understanding of them. Thus, she could not have had those abilities designed before birth.

I don't put much stock in the ages listed on the website, even if it is the official ME website. It's likely written by different people than those who wrote the game. Already had a developer mention Mordin's age is not the one listed on the website.

Ignore the wiki... it is full of mistakes and "facts" that are due to someones opionion rather than factual information.

It cites information from the official bioware site and in-game Codexes.

The only age that even makes a lick of sense on the official site is most of the humans (except Zaeed) and Tali. Everything else is horribly inaccurate and the devs have said so.

Agreed, it's a bit unfortunate.

lol, try saying that to the hordes of certain fans of certain characters.

Seeing as to how the Mass Effect series is a shooter/RPG one, and good RPG's place heavy emphasis on story elements, you'd expect a little more care to be given to them.

The timeline is really, really compressed.

It's one of things you kind of need to ignore if you want to enjoy the game, because really..it's hard to believe humanity could spread so far and wide in just a little under 40 years.

well, you can make yourself as president. why not? at age of only 30-year-old. it's a game. relax. everything is unreal. all fake, all human-made-story. OK, even in the book, the whole story is not real, right? so get over it. it doesn't matter how they did at age of 15 or not.

Yeah, the timeline of the Mass Effect backstory is a bit skewed in certain areas.

As a fan of consistancy, it bugs me a little that certain areas of the timeline seem...off. However, I usually look the other way, and just play the game. I wish the timeline would be fixed, but it doesn't dampen my enjoyment of the games themselves.

It's not a question of how "real" or "unreal" it is; it's a question concerning the coherence of the certain backstories and the coordination of the writers who created them. We can accept major story elements of the Mass Effect series because it is science fiction, but suspension of disbelief has its limits. Having FTL travel and biotics is reasonable within the story's framework, but a 15 year old who has served in the Alliance Military, explored the Terminus Systems AND founded a Merc Group is so ridiculous that must be a fault on the part of the writers, rather than part of the story.

For the record, I'm not really worked up about this or anything.

Well, Miri didn't have a mother, was she even born? I choose to think she was vat grown to the age of 21 or so, that way her story fits in the timeline :)

Zaeed... he could have been in the precursor to the allience. Someone had to be space navy for a while just to find the mass effect driver out near pluto, right? probably not, but you make up your own stories to fill in the gaping sink holes that exist in the story of this game.

Biotic Shepard makes even less sense.

Best just to not think about the timeline and just enjoy the game.

I actually assumed Zaeed was in his 90's. Aside from human lifespans being increased and genetic/medical procedures reaching such potency that humans all seem to look several decades younger than they actually are, it would certainly explain how Zaeed got so much experience.

The only explanation I can think of is that it's hard to keep track of birthdays when traveling around the galaxy.

After all, there are people who are claiming to be the oldest person in the world, but have no birth certificate to back it up.
