i've been playing 3 characters and so far on all 3 playthroughs I get Morrigan at level 7. No tricks or exploits. But I do kill everything and anything I can find.
To think people have already finished the game is astonishing to me. I am playing 3 characters at the same time, but so far on all 3, I am just getting out of Lothering. Not far into it at all.

You used an exploit, let's not be surprised if it breaks the game.
That said, I must admit I had hoped to spec Wynne in something other than Earth, but every spec has a use, really. Now I am merrily enjoying petrify/stonefist as a combo, for example.

I took about 40 hours on my first play through and couldn't even get to level 20, I thought I had done most of everything too.
Sounds like you missed a ton of content.

Exploits are not necessarily bad. It all depends on what you want from the game. Some people might like power gaming, as the original poster on this subject stated. I like to test a lot of characters, see what skills and spells work etc. etc. Every game has things that work and things that don't work and patching takes time. I don't want a bad character because of a bug. That's not a lot of fun when you spent hours making that charchater. This exploit saves me time.
I will say that having this exploit allows me to make spell combinations that I might not normally get-like Storm of the Century, which is very cool. So sometimes you can see things in the game you might miss. To each his own. For me, its about entertainment.
Personally, I've used the above exploit and had a lot of fun with it. What happened to the above poster was pretty simple. The game levels up any new character added to your party based on your character's level at the time the NPC first joins your party.
Since this exploit occurs early in the game, the only NPC whose leveling you control completely is Alistair's. So if you are level 40 when you first add Morrigan to your party, expect her to have a lot of talents/spells already chosen because the game fills them in.
Interestingly enough, Morrigan only comes filled up to level 20, so any talents/spells after 20 are not assigned. She will, however; have all her attributes and skills filled. The game does a good job with the attributes and skills. It's only the talents/spells that may not be what you'd want to see.
For those of you who think exploits are bad and destroy a game, fine--don't use them.

Exploits or not, most of the NPC's come with asinine choices and the later you get them the worse it gets, also autolevel doesn't seem to matter, if I find a party member at lvl 5 they have upto lvl 5 assigned, if I find them at 10 they have upto lvl 10 assigned.
There was a thread either here or on the other board asking if it could be patched that apart from story specific skills/talents/spells such as specialisations etc they could be left unassigned so we can choose to either use the horrendous defaults or something more practical and the official response was basically no you will play this open group based RPG our way.
Unfortunately I left getting Wynne late on this avatar and have read she is one of the worst for having horrendously bad default skills/spells allocations at higher levels.
Will be interesting to see just how badly broken she is with Bioware's defaults by about lvl 13 or 15.
Fortunately for me PC users can fix it with console commands or the toolset however by removing worthless point allocations and spending them in a more sensible manner.

If you use an exploit you're essentially breaking the game, so don't be surprised if things get screwey

Level cap is 25. I used the exploit for a rogue character just to get the lvl 20 rogue achievement (because I don't like playing as a rogue; only mages or warriors for me.
). After I hit 25, I couldn't level anymore.
And yes, Lord Badmagic. On my first proper playthrough I did the mage quest line last and Wynne came with terrible presets. Not that bad... really... but not that good either. I was fine because I didn't want Wynne in my party, but if I had wanted her... I would suggest getting Wynne as soon as you can if you want to spec her properly. This game is all about decisions. if I want to have Oghren as a tank, you have to do Orzammar first because his preset is a two-hand warrior so you have to catch him as early as possible.
Anyway, Cheerio,
Mr. Dark
