ME2 was great and Bioware made a lot of gameplay improvements, that's out of discussion. But as I'm replaying ME1 for the first time since ME2 was released, some considerations are coming to my mind. What do you think about them, would you add any? Note that there are only gameplay-related issues, and nothing about the plot... of course I also want Liara, Ashley/Kaidan back in squad ;) but I believe there are enough such threads.
  • What bothers me most, is the squad talks. In ME1 there were much more conversations, they were much longer and more interesting than in ME2. In ME2 the topics are mostly personal and the only ones you can talk with, are potential LIs.
  • I didn't like elevators, but they were still better than loading screens. And, unlike Tali, I really miss those elevator talks :D
  • In ME1 everyone had an combat armor. When exposed to vacuum/toxic atmosphere, helmets were mandatory. In ME2 some characters are wearing armors (Garrus, Grunt, Zaeed) or at last special suits (Mordin, Tali), but the rest of them... Miranda and Samarra may be sexy, but with that hooker's dressings (high heels!) they shouldn't be able to fight. Sometimes they have masks, but it's not enough to make it realistic.
  • Also, everyone could use any type of ammo. Suddenly it became a skill and on the highest level you can set a particular ammo type for a whole team. How? Is it a magic?
  • I understand that not everyone should be able to use a sniper rifle or an assult rifle. But I believe that some characters, like Garrus, Jacob, maybe also Zaeed and Miranda are experienced enough to use any type of weapon at anytime, just like Shepard.
  • Character skills had been greatly diversified (that's good), but also depleted (that's bad) and despite that differentiation some characters with different classes are almost the same (like Tali and Legion, the only difference is special ability).
  • Thermal clips are retcon, they could call it ammo as well. I preferred previous system, however if the new one is still called overheating, I think that weapons should cool down eventually, even if you don't have a thermal clip for them.
  • I miss Mako :) Hammerhead is somewhat fragile... in addition, we could make a great use of Mako in all main quests. It was interesting and entertaining as well (I'm NOT talking about exploring planets... I mean first five was kind of fun, but it quickly became almost as boring as scanning the planets in ME2).
  • And Mako had a cannon of a great, great power. I know, less experience, but I just couldn't miss opportunity to smite helpless enemies with such deadly weapon. Miss that too ;)
  •  Why there are no weapons stats in game? Why do I have to guess differences between them?
  • Some main quests in ME2 are quite sophisticated, others are just going forward and shooting everything on the way. But I miss some interaction like that on Noveria/Peak 15 in scientists base, where you could talk, do some minor quests, some shopping, and go on. Such additions reminded me that it was still a RPG, not just a shooter. In case of ME2, I'm not so sure ;)
In general, it looks as if ME1 was more like Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, etc, and ME2 is more like Star Wars. I preferred former, more sci-fi than fantasy, but thats just my feelings.

English is not my native language, so sorry if I mauled it once again ;)

1) Crouching

2) Team mate armour

3) The way you move while wielding a weapon. It looks really upright and stiff in ME2.

That's it, really.

Not really much from ME1 I want to make a return. I don't miss the ME1 inventory at all although some form of inventory would be nice. If I had to choose something, I'd say the way persuades and intimidates work, it didn't really work at all in ME2.

I agree with pretty much everything except the Mako. I know alot of people are mad at the Hammerhead because it has paper for armor, but I felt like the Mako had so much armor and shields that I ended up just driving through enemies and soaking up the bullets. I felt like there was no point in killing the enemies in my way because it would be alot faster to go through them and get to the main objective

The only one I really miss is the squad armor.

Miranda and Samara's outfits are just great for the ship. Kinda silly for a firefight.

3. Different Armor for Squadmates Image IPB
4. Not having to buy fuel Image IPB
5. New Game Plus keeping all of the stuff you bought the first time through, Weapons, Armor, Wep Mods, stuff like ship upgrades could get reset though IMO
6. Omni Tools and Biotic Amps I miss these a lot :(
7. Being able to take my helmet off/on during missions
8. Grenades
etc,etc,etc.... The list can go on, but these are all that I can think of right now

I could stand having more of a variety of equipment to use, but I don't want anywhere near the clutter that built up in my inventory in ME1.  I omni-gelled my whole inventory many times because the difference between the thousands of rifles and armors was usually unnoticable...

I miss the uncharted worlds. Call me strange but I enjoyed them. They were a hell of a lot more immersive than planet scanning. They weren't perfect, what with most of them being largely the same except for the sky-box. However I'd have rather seen the uncharted worlds improved than replaced entirely.

1. More weapons!

2. No reloading and only thermal overheating. Or let them reload but not run out of ammo. Something like making them manually work the action to release heat or whatever. 15 reserve bullets when it takes 4-5 to drop an enemy is just stupid.

3. Hold position button (was this in ME1?)

4. Button mapping to let me map the sniper rifle to X, rifle to Y, pistol to R, etc. in the PC

5. More graphics settings on the PC.

I thought most of the barren, lifeless UNCs were pretty damn good as far as atmosphere went (not literally, of course).  Especially the ones where they added dust storms or snow or something.  I really didn't care much for the garden or near-garden world ones, because:

a. It seemed like they went nuts with the terrain generator or whatever on every damn one, leading to ridiculous and annoying mountain ranges that were always in the way.
b. All the "vegetation " just made it look like some species of uberlichen had taken over the entire biosphere, barring the odd shifty-looking cow or pseudo-crab wandering about.  I mean, what, not enough resources for whipping-up some crappy shrubbery or something?  Even once?
c.  General lack of animal life. Though I understand the reasons for this one, it was still a bummer.

It also would have been nice to occasionally run across a colonist or prospector while outside that wasn't either dead, converted into a husk, or actually a mercenary about to try and kill you.  That's one reason I dug the Styx Theta assignments, where you run into actual living Alliance marines.

The other thing I really enjoyed was running into random vehicles or equipment that weren't marked on the map, and you were often simply left to wonder what happened to the people who'd brought them there and what they'd been doing there to begin with.  That and other largely "pointless" stuff like the Odd Skull or the little short-story about Prothean observation of early humans.  More of that please.

Let's see. . .

Kaidan and Liara

Open world exploration in the Mako

Kaidan and Liara

The rpg-feel, like it was JE in space (that is SOOO gone)

The four main missions before the final one. That made the story progression actual story progression immersed into a video game. That is absent in ME2

Probably more, but I can't think atm.

The soundtrack for the main menu. It was so sad, and so memorable, and oh so iconic.

Also... the piano keys whenever you entered a new menu. And the old death music.

Oh, and most of all... VIRMIRE!
