I was at Gamestop yesterday, I saw that a good fairly new game like Mass Effect 2 dropped to 40 USD, when an older more mediocre game like Modern Warfare 2 was still at 60 USD. What the hell? They released a demo 5 months late just to try and draw sales in. What the hell is wrong with people? Anyone else kind of mad at the price drops?

There was already a topic on this.

Short explanation: Modern Warfare has multiplayer, Mass Effect does not. Also, schools are out for the summer.

Why would one be mad at a price drop? It costs less to buy the game, that's good for the consumer.

Reminds me of how all the "gamers" at my school hate games like Mass Effect just because it has more story then action, when they flock to a game such as Call of Duty, which only has good story telling and not story.

This is the first time I've actually seen someone complain about the price of something dropping.

...Or maybe they want a game that they can play with their companions?

Playing single-player RPGs is a lot like reading - it's not something you can do with other people at parties.

Hey, I play MW2 and the Mass Effect games, but I get why MW2 has kept its high price. It was recently dropped from 45 to 29GBP at my local supermarket (of which I'm rather thankful) but out at the actual game stores, its still got a high price.

Why?

Because there are lots of people who just want to leap into a game with their friends and have fun. I do it plenty of times, and the multiplayer is MW2's crowning jewel to me. Its mindless, but addictive and quite a bit of fun. (if you're not the butt monkey of the match)

The MEs are still awesome games, and by no means should they have a multiplayer of their own. But that's just my opinion, so please don't flame me :wizard:

Yeah I play MW2 also, but the people at my school are just like "Mass effect sucks I just want action."

Are you trying to get them to play Mass Effect that they tell you that?

I waited an agonizing 7 months for ME1 to drop to $30 (used) so I could buy it. That was the threshold I set for myself. Did ME2 drop faster? But it had more action....

That usually happens if you keep bringing it up or try to convince them to play it/like it when they've made it clear that they're just drooling fanboys for gun porn.

No offence meant to any of you who prefer the action

And there you have my interpretation of the price drop: BioWare/EA dumbed down ME 2 to get exactly those people to buy their game. But apparently it still wasn't enough, or maybe the advertising didn't make clear enough how different ME 2 is from ME 1, so now they try to show them with a demo how well you can "own" enemies in ME 2 too, and give a price drop as an additional incentive.

What sickens me is that school kids are playing my M for Mature game. Aren't you kids satisfied with your Pokemon cards and your ill-fitting trousers?

Do you have some kind of internet tourette syndrome that causes you to badmouth BioWare every time someone mentions one of their games?

Mass Effect 1 dropped to $40 at the same exact time - right before public schools ended.

You're interpretation?  LOL, I call it spin without bringing the supporting evidence to the table.

Because a company has never reduced the price and offered a demo to increase sales before right?  It must be because they dumbed down the game.  That's gotta be it.

When was the last time a demo was released so long after release? When was the last time BioWare released a demo, anyway? I'm just saying that this indicates sales numbers below expectations, and I offered one possible explanation. If that offends anyone, I'm sorry.

Except the explanation is completely invalid when it also applies to Mass Effect 1.

Continue ignoring facts and spewing bias though, I'm sure the developers appreciate that kind of feedback. Or rather, they don't and you're just helping to drive them away from the forum so that they don't care what their "fans" think about the game.

Congratulations, you're accomplishing the exact opposite of what you think you're doing.

Fallout 3 and Oblivion didn't get a price drop until GOTY versions (which came out a year later). It costs more to buy Dragon Age on Amazon too. ME2 being a single player game isn't a good excuse for this.

I don't find it offensive at all.

There is no question that companies drop price to increase sales, and it could indicate that sales are below expectations.

If that is indeed the case, it could be for a whole host of reasons.  You're prior statement appeared void of objectivity.
