It does become taxing after a while. Please people. Search for a bit.

The incoming messages from the new arrivals was fairly busy yesterday, meaning more than the usual number, even for Saturday, went unanswered, so there is more reason than ever to try to use the forum archives this way (by Searching).Gorath Alpha wrote...
The on-site Search has not been improved, however, none of the professional search engines have been taken offline, so there is no excuse for all of the current repeated instances of the same old questions all over again.
No matter that it's fall, not summer, now, there still are better things to do on weekends than sit inside reading game forum traffic, so some kind of SEARCH becomes the fastest way to get help here.
If you still have to start a new topic because your search didn't turn anything up to help you, please include that datum when you complete your Problem Report message.

It seems to me that beyond ignoring the archives, we are also seeing an awful lot of new arrivals who skip past the posts pinned at the top, covering frequently asked questions. Those are up there for a reason. We are hoping to save space for messages that are not repeats of the same old things all of the time.Gorath Alpha wrote...

It is a weekend, and a slow one, so all the more reason to actually USE the available forum helps, such as archives and pinned threads, and EA's help site is open on weekends, although TTBOMK, they do not read incoming eMails on the weekends, and regretfully, I have no idea one way or the other whether their technical chat lines are open now.Gorath Alpha wrote...

Reminder to new arrivals: do use SOME KIND of search, don't assume that no one has ever had the same issue. There've been so many copies of the game sold, almost nothing that comes up can really be new any more.

That reminder is the truth, folks. And you can expect a temporary lapse in attention to this forum, while the effects of last Saturday's Spike VGAs keep interest in ME-2 and its sequel in the minds of gamers, so readership will be off by more than usual for a thirteen month old game. In other words, fewer potential respondents to answer questions.Gorath Alpha wrote...

This is still true and the new arrivals are still ignoring the many prior responses to the same, tired, many times repeated questions here. Open your eyes, your minds, and use them both.Gorath Alpha wrote...
I've just edited the leading message's subject line to reflect a desire to cut down on the grave-digging here. Use Google, use Yahoo, heck, use BING, but the forum's own search is BROKEN. If you get 51 hits, all a year old, that's the amateur design work showing. If you get no hits at all, you need to study how to use any kind of search engine, good or bad.

In addition to repeating questions so old that they are practically just "SPAM" on the hundredth repeat, the new arrivals today don't seem to want to read any stickies, or to fill out any standard Problem Reports.Gorath Alpha wrote...

That's very sad.

Just add the main URL for this forum with the word site and a colon, to redirect a Google or Yahoo site to look inside here for its search.Gorath Alpha wrote...

I'm sure that there are plenty of newer threads than those that the forum's own search dredges up, but I see several more from a year ago showing up today, although it's entirely possible those are all that are out there for ANY variety of search, nevertheless, I thought I'd remind everyone about site redirection and Google / Yahoo.

The fact that Bioware hired amateurs to generate some tinker toy grade program code that is worthless as a "Search" is not a GAME problem. This forum is a Self-Help tech discussion for GAME problems. There is a separate forum in which you can express your frustration about Bioware's hiring policies, this is not the forum for that.Gorath Alpha wrote...

It's summer, the members here are mostly elsewhere while the weather is (comparatively) decent. They aren't in here; and the few who are here are too bored by seeing the same really old, really many-times repeated questions.Gorath Alpha wrote...

The stickies are there to help you with that sort of thing, and the archives as well. Otherwise, you aren't so likely to get any answer here.

Ahh, but they are searching...and somehow bypassing every single thread with a solution and digging up the long dead corpses of threads with no useful information. Given the sheer number of times the solutions have been provided and/or linked, that is a fairly remarkable feat. We could start the self-help equivalent of the Darwin awards.

They don't want to find a solution waiting for them, somehow, so they scan right past / through anything that doesn't match the answer they "expect" until they do find whatever their prejudices lead them toward.

Forums such as this and the others on the site are relatively seasonal in nature, building up from a low point after fall begins, roughly about now (October 13, right?). Then early next May, the ebb will return. With the readership still low, your best bet for answers is the Stickies and the forum archives. And no matter if / whether there is a new piece of added content, the existing discussions of dealing with DLC problems still apply, so there just aren't likely to be new categories of problems.

The only Social site forum getting any measurable message traffic is ME-3; the rest are a month late, at least, in recovering from the off-season ebb in interest. I suppose that the great popularity of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and the great amount of message traffic on Bethesda's forums could have something to do with the situation.
Just use a professional Search, as per the starting advice in this thread and add the redirector to it:
