I will be getting it, I just hope Drew does a better job with his characters this time and uses the TIM Walters made in ME2, not that sorry excuse we had in Ascension.

I liked the story and the introduction to the Collectors, Cerberus and the Migrant Fleet, but the characters where throw aways, I did't care for them at all. Mary sues, mustache twirling villians and bland characters.

Gah, random sound startled me. Websites should not be allowed to autoplay stuff, ever.
Other than that, I have no interest in reading this. They cannot possibly incorporate the choices I have made into the book -well they can, but then someone else's choices would be ignored- so they'd have to resort to default choices. It's hard not to mention any of those details in the book, and I'd rather not find out what the standard Shepard is expected to be, even if only a few details are mentioned.
The books are written very specifically in that they never mention anything related to a player choice. They only deal with themes and source material that are universal to all characters, and thus can remain canon without impacting a player's particular decision in the games.
Both Revelations and Ascension did this, as did the Redemption comic series, so I figure Retribution will be exactly the same.

god i hope bioware finally realises
how good these books are and what a waste it would be not to introduce
them into the games.. i wonder how drew is gonna go about explaining
david leaving to help kahlee if hes the human council member or
not..
They're canon, but they do need to remain seperate from Shepard's story I think, to help expand the universe without intruding on the player's game experience.
Besides, an event in Ascension is referenced in Mass Effect 2 anyway.

why do you think this will be his last?PARAGON87 wrote...
This is probably going to be the last Drew Karpyshyn novel, and even with StarCraft II coming out that day, I will be buying it.

He's wrote three novels so far, and there's going to be one written by William C. Dietz (Halo: The Flood) due Winter 2011.
Plus since he's involved heavily with the Star Wars MMO now, he won't have time for novel writing anytime soon.
It isn't confirmed that this will be his last ME novel, but all signs are pointing to it.

hopefully Drew will write the main story behind ME3; aint a fan of Mac; i rather see a professional writer behind the lead
Ya because you know, they just picked Walters out of there ass and he was never involved with the first ME or did't work on any other Bioware gasmes or create any good characters

What? Walters is not a programmer, he's a full time writer for BioWare. Well, that and managing editor.
In my opinion, Drew is better at story and plot twists, but Mac is better at characters, a lot better. And I prefer an emotional engaging story.

I didn't even know the book was going to be released early there and I didn't know Drew was coming or I would have brought more of his books to sign. I just happen to walk by a book shop (novel not comic book) saw the cover and then I had to stop and ask if that was the new book or not since I thought it wasn't being released for another week or more. Luckily, they said it was the new book and that Drew was going to be at their booth in another hour. So I scored twice!
I hope to get started on reading the book soon, but I have a ton of other stuff I need to work on.

i liked how they centered it around cerberus and i liked that the autistic girl was able to kick some butt with her biotics. kaylee seemed a bit boring a little with her charachter but she makes up for it when it got to the kidnapping part with jiro. if i had to give a rating id rate this novel a 7.5 out of 10

I just went to Amazon UK, in order to buy the book so it would come tomorrow morning. However, I find to my horror that Amazon UK lists it as being released on August 5th!
Why?
