We've already dealt with the Geth in Mass Effect, and based on your ME2 choices they are likely allies in ME3. The Collectors were annihilated by the end of ME2, so who will be agents for the reapers in Mass Effect 3? Do you think an entirely new species will be introduced again, or does Bioware have something different up their sleeves?

I imagine the focus of the third game's storline will be about finding a species and/or technology capable of providing organic races with a chance to combat the Reapers, as well as uniting the races of the galaxy in preparation for the upcoming battle. What I want to know is who, or what, will be trying to stop Commander Shepard & Co. along the way.

Edit: To be clear, I'm asking who you (the person reading this) think will be the new main "cannon fodder" enemy, i.e. Geth and Collectors. Who will be the new "them", as they have all been handled. We all know the game will culminate with a final battle against the reapers.

Any theories?

P.S.
Sorry if something like this has been posted before...:?

It has to be the Reapers. Bioware has been following trilogy rules so far and ME3 has to now focus on the Reapers This is the final act and will bring everything together. ME3 will either be the best game ever or the biggest flop in video game history.

Seems like the Batarians are the typical one dimensional bad guys.  If I had to choose, they'd be my number 1 choice

Hopefully they will warp in with new combat thralls. Two or more different species that we can negotiate with. Turn this into SC2 plz

The collector base is only destroyed. There could be more bases.

I think they would make it truly epic. You have the backing of the whole galaxy against the reapers. It has to be when they show us hundreds of reaper ships at the ending.

If it's not the Reapers, then all is lost on a great trilogy

Well... It is stated in the post that the question is not whether the reapers will be the bad guys, but who their agents will be

I have the feeling we'll be fighting the batarians. They are already slavers, they're isolationists (like the geth and rachni were), and now they're fielding some exotic technology (that mirror system).

I agree with shandepared. The batarians have done NOTHING to develop any kindnof sympathy for them. They havnt given us a squadmate or anything. They are largely undeveloped with a background everyone should hate. They are te perfect bad guys to kill without feeling bad IMO

I think he meant more of a cannon fodder enemy. Like the collectors in ME2 and the geth in ME1. The reapers have always been the big baddie.

I think we will either be fighting more indoctrinated servant creatures or the batarians.

we all know the biggest enemy is reaper. but that's not what he asked. he seemed to ask us what kind of enemies we will go through until reaper crap is over.

canon fodder?  3 is the end...and the WHOLE THING has been about Reapers wiping us all out......how can you introduce a "canon fodder" enemy that has NO TIES to Reapers........

my guess is more Collectors/Husks/etc.....to throw some trivial race like Batarians is just stupid.

Well you can't really shoot a reaper with biotics or guns, I'm hoping for a new enemy to fill that void

I had a thread about this recently (where did that go ?) Anyway... I agree that the Reapers will always be the ultimate evil, but personally I'm interested in WHAT Reaper it will be. Will we see a third nemesis for the third installment? Or will we still be facing off against I KNOW YOU FEEL THIS!

More to the point... their foot soldiers. I am tempted to say Batarians, but I force myself to remember that Bioware is not at all afraid to pull a new enemy species out of thin air/ outer space with no warning for plot reasons. I know that the Collectors were in fact woven into the trilogy quite nicely, but still, no reason they can't do something similar.

Reapers and lots of husks and indoctrinated slaves. With the final bad guy who is someone close to your character who gets indoctrinated. I think someone like udina or Anderson would make it even more personal. Making killing the reapers even more great. In order to save your friend Anderson from helping destroying the galaxy and destroying all of humanity. You must destroy the reapers at a very fast pace. Who else would be worth being the ultimate enemy. Well there is also liara. Hmm. Makes you real wonder who your final baddy is going to be.

One of the posts on that thread made a really good point actually: By Burdokva

"Mass Effect 3 desperately needs a Saren. No matter how scary and
unsettling the Collectors were, a faceless horde of mindless enemies
isn't nearly as motivational for the player as a good adversary on a
personal level."

Harbinger was this semi-amorphous, possesion...thingy. :D He/It had no real personality. The Reapers are a threat, but not yet tangible. They're "out there". A faceless menace. There ought to be a new "Anti-Shepard" for ME3.
