So DA:O will soon find its home in my 360, easily knocking out all other games for a few months and a few hundred hours of play time. There’s only one problem pre-launch: My laptop doesn’t have the fire power to run the Character Creator.

So here I am, missing out on an avatar picture, missing out on designing a character for each origin, not being able to carefully weigh my talent/spell trees in glorious detail and am having trouble making a fully informed final decision on which PC to play through first. In short, it’s excruciating.

I hold out fleeting hope that the CC will magically appear on XBox Live pre-launch in the same way the Fable II Pub Games offered a preview. I secretly know that there will be no such salvation.

I have to ask: Are any other 360 players experiencing this torture? Do PC players have any words of comfort on how I can make it through the next 2 weeks?  Dying here.

Do you know anyone with a good enough PC to try the CC out? If not then don't worry, it'll only be a few days. Try waiting for a game like Starcraft 2 that doesn't even have a release date and will most likely be released next summer :pinched:

Wow, I just found Adaram's character planning spreadsheets. Great resource for us 360 players!!

My work computer may not be able to run the CC, but it's brilliant at spreadsheets.

I salute you sir!

About the CC: If I remember correctly the 360 handles character creation differently from the PC. Do keep in mind that should this be the case I'm not sure exactly what the differences are or if they are even noticeable.

About DA:O and getting some info about the world: If it interests you there are some Dragon Age books two of them now if memory serves me. They are not everyones cup of tea (I've not brought them) but they will give you some insight into the games world if nothing else. Reading the reviews on Amazon they seem to be really quite good.

If there are similar sliders. You could come up with something and just re-create it on the Xbox verison.

I had to recreate a character since I chose the wrong class and I got something very close. Just by viewing screenshots.

So I guess you can't get that ring if you're getting the 360 version? Bummer.

I'm getting the PC version, but I'll still be able to get the ring. All you need is a friend to create the character. Make a character, upload him, and then you'll be able to get it on the xbox once you log in with your bioware social account.

At least, that's how I heard it.

I really wonder why the CC wasn't released on the xbox as I'm really looking forward to some sign of how it preforms on the 360 and I'm sure a lot of other people are too. Look at how different the menus in the PC version of Mass Effect were against the 360.. and that made a big difference to me. I basically have two fears to contend with.. 1. That if I buy the PC version my computer won't be able to handle full performance and that'll make me sad. 2. That if I buy it on the xbox the experience won't be as good as having it on the PC.. and that'll make me sad.

Hopefully as we get closer to release date we will get some good reviews that sum up the differences.

Yes you can. The dev's have stated you can get it reguardless of PC/360/PS3. It works by when you are in DA:O there will be a login (just like in the character creator) and you sign in with your social network email and password. Then when you create a character on the 360/PS3 you just upload them since you are logged in and volia there you go Lucky Ring.

To be honest you aren't missing out on much. The CC is buggy as hell, and to my mind was probably an ill-judged decision on Bioware's (or EA's) part. It sure doesn't instil a lot of confidence in me as to the stability of the game itself.

A couple of reasons. The first is that the PC version was done and dusted and had been sitting on a shelf for 6 months. The console ports may well have still been in development when the CC was assembled. The main reason though is anything released on either console has to undergo certification by the respective system's overlords (i.e. MS and Sony). That can take a month or more. That would make it pretty unlikely as a pre-launch option. Maybe early next year they might release it on consoles in lieu of a demo to try and spice up sales (after the initial surge dies off), but even then I wouldn't count on it.

How's it buggy? I haven't encountered a single bug while messing with it.

Read the sticky thread at the top of this sub-forum entitled "Please post technical Issues with the Character Creator here". 400 odd posts says it's not smooth sailing for everyone. Add to that the essentially duplicate thread in the old forum and you have a fairly decent sized group of people that would agree that it's buggy.

Press the PrtScr button on your keyboard. A screenshot will be saved in My Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\Screenshots\\User\\ - at least in XP anyway. Dunno about Vista/Win7.

Ah well. Chalk that one up to bugginess perhaps. ;)

Well ... I've noticed a few minor bugs ... but to call it "buggy as hell" seems a bit exaggerated to me.

For some reason I thought the Lucky Stone ring was just for people who uploaded their characters pre-launch.  Good to hear all forumites are eligible after launch as well.  This is great info, thanks DocSun!  :)

To be fair, the 400 posts in the technical issues topic don't equate to 400 actual problems.  Take a look at a few posts and you can see there is a lot more going on in there.  Posting that your character's name should not be considered a profanity is not a 'bug'.

For the number of people who have downloaded it versus the number of 'real' bugs reported, I'd say it's been a huge success for Bioware.

well I'mma 360 players who downloaded the CC just to kill the time away lol

It didn't eat much memory, and although I wish I could import, I can copy from the screen, and I'm happy I got to gen a peek at what the design scheme is.

I could play DAO on PC, but I wouldn't want to take all my memory

I think BioWare was nice to give us the CC.  They could have done nothing so don't complain.

There are quite a few more bugs than that. I am divided on the issue; I like that they gave us the tool when obviously nothing forced them to do so, but I do find it to be of relatively poor quality and a bit disappointing. Also, they claimed they ripped the thing straight out of the game, so unless they fixed the game's version that is shipping, this is what we can expect at release. I will not be impressed if facial features reset or change randomly like they do now in the finished product.

I'm optimistic the actual game will be relatively stable and bug free. The reviews and previews indicate that it is good. I found a couple of problems with the CC. The portrait doesn't always save and one of my characters wouldn't upload. However I am not sure what Bioware had to do to extract it from the actual game and make it useable as a stand alone. It is quite possible that this was more complicated than we would assume.

I'm not too worried about the game. I'm sure there will be the odd problem but hopefully no showstoppers and I am confident Bioware will work hard to fix serious problems quickly.

Its kind of nice to get a look at what sort of characters you can expect to make, even if not by yourself. Just prior to Mass Effects release the internet was awash with first videos of the different faces reviewers/developers where making, then scads of screenshots that users where doing as soon as they got it. This is a step forward, despite the bugs.

None of the character creator specific bugs stop you playing with the sliders or seeing what you can make, in that sense its a success.

Without the CC no one would have know its impossible to make asian male characters.
