Leliana's Song Reviews

I especially liked the soundtrack, the theme playing in the opening segment was especially great, it fit the mood so perfectly, I did not want to proceed.
I also enjoyed the fun, if shallow and a bit unrevealing, look into Leliana's history prior to the events of Origins proper. Although I didn't really learn a whole bunch about her, I can safely say I look at Leliana a bit differently, though not in a negative way, compared to how I saw her before. I used to hate playing a rogue, because of the damage issues on the consoles, but LS has given me a little bit of insight into how that world REALLY works, its just too bad the Warden didn't get to experience that type of world, especially 'The Game' itself(Or maybe they did, depending on how you look at things...).
One real criticism, is its short and... thats about it. Kinda...glitchy, on the PS3 at least, the framerate takes a a substantial hit compared to the rest of the game in standard, but thats a very minor flaw in a relatively great DLC, I plan to play it many more times.

Way too short. Disappointed. I wanted to see some "bard" moments too.
It was all about assassinations, crimes and the betrayal story between Leliana and Marjolaine.
So I guess you can't call this a spoiler.

Amazing. Would love to see that again in future DLC's or even main installments.

You want to see established backstories changed and destoryed?

My major complaint and this was what ruined it for me was her backstory was changed. It was nothing like we where told. I think the writer was not Leli's writer or even wrote in DAO. The gameplay was strong, good VA and music, but the backstory was changed too much, no Orlais. In all I give it 3 stars.
Did you miss the part where we know its Leliana telling the story, and bards always put a twist on their stories or change things up to spice it up a bit?

I don't care. The only reason why is because Bioware got lazy and decided to use Fereldan again.

Really? You're going to take a shot at them when we knew it was going to be like this for a while?

I’m likely to take a lot of flak for this since I’m probably in the minority on my views for this.
Sorry but this thing is not all that impressive. Yet again with BioWare downloads/expansions I’m disappointed. Honestly is this the best they can come up with? This thing is nothing but a mild diversion that does not even follow what we are told by Leliana as what even happened. I honestly think Darkspawn Chronicles is more fun than this thing. Even Leliana fans might find themselves scratching their head at why they bough this with all the odd twists to the story as told and what we get.
Good:
-A cameo appearance by **** was nice.
-A few interesting things in dialog hinting at how she chooses her new hair style you see in Origins.
-The companions are as usual a good group.
Bad:
-More than once did I find my sword and dagger mysteriously unequipped for no reason.
-Dialog glitches where Leliana or others are supposed to say something but all you get is the subtitles. Playtesters are obviously not used by BioWare anymore for anything they make.
-Revisiting the same locations in Denerim as well as Forlorn Cove from Awakenings is nothing but boring. I guess creating actual new locations to do these missions in would be to much to ask. You know someplace where this story was supposed to have actually have happened in, Orlais. Even seeing the same bodies in the dungeon was lame.
-Why even use the leveling for skills if you cant use most of them? Cant make potions or traps. You can choose Coercion but its pointless since you have no influence over anyone.
-To short to be really enjoyable. Playtime for this is really bad. I clocked in at just over 4 hours and I had the game on pause for a lot of that time. I would be willing to bet you could beat this in about an hour or an hour and a half at the most.
-Why is ***** weapon turned into a gift instead of a standard weapon? There is only two options who you would give it to, Leliana and ****. You get more gifts in Darkspawn Chronicles than this single one in this download. So why even have it turn into as a gift?
Very bad:
-Wasn’t Leliana captured in Orlais and imprisoned there? Not to mention the betrayal quest here doesn’t match what she tells us what happened in the DAO. She was sent to kill a man and retrieve papers on him but she opened them. Marjolaine turned her in to the Orlaisian guards not this lame attempt of a story and how it unfolds.
-Does anyone pay attention to what is established in the main game for these downloads and expansions?
The Questionable:
-The comic/cartoon like pause and splash of red we get when your introduced to each character you meet of importance. It was interesting when it first happens at the beginning but not through out the whole story. Did Quentin Tarantino direct this?
-The new combat music is nice and new but is almost annoying since a fight can be rather short so you sometimes don’t get to hear it.
-Tug, Sketch, Lem? Couldn’t think up better names? I know it’s a little thing but they still seems like cheesy names. “Tug on my finger please.” “Lets Sketch a new character design.” “Anyone want some Lemonade to drink while we think of names. Hmm lemon.. Hey, Mon! No that wont work.. Nades? No good either.. Lem!”. Larry, Moe and Curly would have been better, well maybe not...
-Climbing up into the estate really means climbing down into the dungeons?
-Getting tossed into the dungeon with your armor on?
-Seeing a chest full of your gear in a room that **** is a prisoner in. Makes sense to keep the weapons and their armor in the same room as the prisoners right?
-Seeing Marjolaine and Leliana’s relationship together was decent but it should have been expanded on a hell of a lot more that what we see here.
-Battledress of the Provocateur is kind of nice. To bad it looks exactly like most of the other armor we already get and its only the base armor and not a whole set. Why not make it look like the concept art armor you see her in?

This gets a 3 out of 10. It adds nothing really to the actual main game (DAO) beyond adding a piece of armor and a messed up version of a story we pretty much already knew.

I did wonder at first why it didn't take place in Orlais, but after a couple of minutes it didn't really matter that much. So she didn't tell the exact truth in DAO or something, no that important to me personally.
From a purely finansial view I understand why they reused existing areas, and even that didn't matter much to me because the story was well written (to me at least).
The blood splatter introduction of characters was to me awesome, and I was in fact thinking of Quentin Tarantino everytime it happened. And since I am a huge fan of his work, this worked very well for me.
Also after playing a lot of Origins, listening to some new music was pleasent - I wish one could bring it into Origins. Anyone know if it's possible to access / download?
I could go on, but doesn't really matter much. All in all it's a matter of how perfect you want a game. If you're not looking for extreme perfection and every storyline holding up 100%, but some good fun for a measly 4 euros, then you should buy this. For me it was great fun.

I'm also not sure I'm getting over Bann Perrin and the Suspect Underthings anytime soon, either.
....and if you'll forgive me the digression, now I'm imagining this happening in DA:O somewhere:
Party: *walks up to board outside the Denerim Chantry*
Leliana: *starts snickering quietly to herself*
Shale: Ah. Now it is laughing over a board hammered into the ground. The human tendency for mockery of supposedly inanimate objects continues unabated, I see.
Leliana: Oh, no, Shale, it isn't that at all. I was merely--
Morrigan: Finding these pathetic charity cases to be laughable? If even our supposedly devoted sister has seen the truth of it at last, why are we wasting our time here?
Leliana: They are not _laughable_, Morrigan. Many of these are worthy causes. I was only... remembering something.
Morrigan: Of course. And now for the insufferable story of the oh-so-humorous time she answered the call of one of these unfortunates, giving unselfishly of herself to rescue a poor, helpless creature from a tree, only to see it relieve itself upon the head of--
Shale: I would advise the mage to choose another target for its mockery, lest I be forced to squish its tiny little head.
Morrigan: I was speaking metaphorically.
Leliana: In any case, you're quite off the mark. Believe it or not, it was something I did to this very board, back in my day....
Morrigan: You? Dare I ask and be subjected to another interminable bard's tale?
Leliana: Ah, Morrigan. There are some stories even I cannot be compelled to tell you. But I will say that a rather terrifying codpiece was involved. And no, you do NOT want to know how I acquired it.
Morrigan: I... believe I'm willing to take your word for that, this once.

Haven't got much to fault about it, and tbh, i don't know why Bioware hasn't done this sooner, instead of wasting six months on awfull dlc since origins came out, and did content like to this to start with.
Love leliana before this dlc, she become better thanks to this.

The music was really very nice. The story was enjoyable but short. A little too short in my opinion. Also, I wished the combat was more varied. Your party is supposed to be thieves, right? Experts in the Orlisian Game? It seems to me they should be more adept at avoiding combat then. It felt they were just another group of mercinaries.
The difficulty was unbalanced. I played the DLC on Normal but I had to drop it down to Casual at the end and that annoyed me. For not giving you a full 4-person party, I think the difficulty needed to be parsed down a little more.
Overall, I think gets from me a 3 out of 4. Fun, but I've seen better from BioWare.

It is la haul de monty; however, and the stores are rather limited in goods so it at least so far a lot of gold is sitting around looking shiny. You start at lvl 10 and I think I'm currently up at least 5 or 6 levels. Leveling seems odd and you seem higher level then is sensible. Your starting gear is very good. I would rather not have any leveling at all but that is just me I think.
In terms of the big three for Dragon Age:
Violence: 10 it is slash and hack, hack and slash and at least so far only one fight was difficult. But I'm not sure what difficulty level I am playing on. It should be hard but possibly the DLC defaults to something lower. Regardless the combat is excessive, unavoidable and the game sort of tries to shoe horn the murder and mayhem into something sensible based on the comments and dialogue. It still seems excessive and unnecessary...I still can't figure out what triggered the city guards to attack.
Lust: 1.25 a tackle, some odd looks from your companions and some sultry dialogue. But I'd say the "Lust for Power" parts probably would get a higher rating.
Betrayal: 8 what can you say...stick it to you good? Pile it on? There is lots.
Not sure about replay. There doesn't seem to have been any significant things that could be changed by player decisions so other than seeing if you could do a few things differently I'm not sure if there is any. I'd think you could enjoy it at least a few times however just because there is sure to be stuff you missed the first time around.
The music it must be said is incredible.
It is too bad there aren't more rogue elements to the story as opposed to simply killing everything that crosses your path. But so far that is the only negative thing I can say and it applies to the main game as well so I can't see how anyone who likes the main game would not enjoy the DLC.
