For me, the Mage and Dalish Origins are at the bottom of the barrel.

I do not dislike Jowan, but there is no way I would ever be his "friend" and help him with his plan of escaping the tower. Tranquility is a horrid practice, but Jowan did not help himself by learning blood magic from the books, which he probably stole since I have a hunch that apprentices are not allowed to read such material.

As for the Dalish origin, is it obvious that if you see a random mirror in an abandoned cave filled with corpses that you do NOT go near it? But no, Tamlen *had* to take a peak to satisfy his curiosity.

The least interesting for me would be the Dalish elf story. It just seemed lacking.

Definitely the Dalish Elf one. Though I can't stand to play as a Dwarf I still like both of the dwarven origin stories.

Your PC is a fictional character, too...?

I always see the Wardens as a team, anyway.  But I agree with the original post in the sense that playing a Dalish character means you're more removed from the political side of the plot.  Alistair is central for my Dalish characters because without him, they might have left Ferelden to its fate rather than deal with the political machinations.

This.

My Dalish doesn't care about politics at all ...but since I don't do either as a player in the game (not a huge fan of the Princess CousCous) we make a good team however. :wizard: Also true is that my F!Mahariel would have left Ferelden to rot if there hadn't been Alistair pleading to her to help him...

I have to give a plug again for the origin story, however.  I think it suffers by comparison because its resolution comes late in the game with the Tamlen encounter and not everyone makes it that far, as is apparent from the YouTube comments on my video of it.  But that encounter was the single most wrenching moment in a game full of emotional moments, for me.

Also true.
Tamlen is indeed acting like the biggest idiot ever faced the Brecilian forest in the origin with his oh-shiny mirror-mode, buuuut nothing has shocked me so much like the unexpected Shriek attack later in the game. When I found out there was Tamlen among them, I had a serious WTF- moment with the game, I will probably never forget again. Tamlen, idiot or not, this moment was gut-wrenching. :crying:

Given, you need a good creative RP mind to play (through) as a Dalish Warden, since there is so few specific dialogue and real attachment to the world. Still for me its hell of a fun to play a Dalish cuz it's such a different feeling and you have the chance to act differently from the standard. Hard to describe, however. :P

Also the lacking origin had inspired me to my FF after all. It is such a fun to fill in the blanks here and give the life as a Dalish Warden, well more...substance :wizard:

Oh, and for me the worst/most boring origin is the Mage one...by far. I seriously want to kick Jowan and his cow of a girlfriend every time I see them. Hard. <_<

If I have not fall asleep beforehand, that is.

I really hated the Dwarf commoner story, not for any reason other then i hate being a dwarf (only did it for the points). The dwarf noble story was interesting, but again i didn't want to complete the game as one.

It's funny, I had no emotional attachment to Tamlen at all. (I am female, btw...just play as guys a lot). I just thought of him as a human-shooting jerk with Arl Howe's hairstyle. I have to admit I don't really care for elves - it's been that way since I read LOTR as a kid and found them all too high and mighty.

In this game and The Witcher they are presented as fallen and downtrodden, which makes them more interesting, but I'm still not sold on them. I did, however, quite enjoy my city elf playthrough since that Origin is quite shocking and I became quite attached to the character despite my misgivings. But the Dalish? I found myself not even liking my own character in that run.

Alright it's late so I'll come up with a more coherent, point-by-point tomorrow but just wanted to clarify, when I say confront I'm not talking about calmly and politely sitting down with Trian and working things out amicably (though that'd be a nice option to try) I'm talking about walking up to him, backhanding the SOB, and accusing him of trying to have you killed. This is essentially you calling him out, in public, as an honourless dog lacking the courage to face his enemies openly. To settle the matter you hold a Proving, to the death, to see who the Ancestors favour. It could still end much the same way, with Trian found poisoned/murdered before the Proving can be held and the conemning evidence is found in your quarters.

That's what bother's me, if you find out someone's plotting to have you killed, and you're in a position to confront them one on one you do it rather than give them time to plot more. Or perhaps I'm just too direct to enjoy the Origin. All this scheming and plotting is just so unnecessary, especially in a society that has no problem settling disputes in fights to the death.

In addition to, again, having no time to do this before the expedition that he dies on, all that scheming and plotting IS Orzammar and not all Provings are to the death. Oghren's as disgraced as he is - and would have been executed had he not been so celebrated of a warrior - for killing someone during a first blood Proving.

What time, you know where he is, you know there's at least one witness, run up and backhand the SOB.  Even if you can't kill him in the Proving if you defeat him he's found guilty of conspiracy to commit murder (though Dwarves may not view that as a crime) and subject to the law.  You're the hero for exposing the honourless sharlatan who could have been king, your family's honour is maintained as you dealt with the issue yourselves before it threatened Orzammar as a whole, and you're next up to the plate.

I also don't see why giving Trian the one extra day to kill him at the secluded Thaig no one will see you do it is too much time to give him to plot or deciding to see if he's actually plotting against you before you kill him is a bad move.

Personal opinion, one second after finding out someone may be plotting to kill you you've wasted too much time with inaction.  For example if someone were to tell me my brother was trying to have me killed I'd immediately invite him over for drinks and greet him with a baseball bat so we can talk things out.

Also, yeah. Directness is definitely frowned upon in that world and whenever you cut to the chase it annoys everyone else because it's not how these things are done.

And that makes me sad.  Stupid Dwarves, should chain the lot of them and use them as foot stools.

Well I do try.

Actually I'm rather fond of the Dwarves just don't like that one Origin.  Dwarf Commoner is fun.  Maybe it's a class thing.

Human Noble was horribly boring.

Odd how everyone hates the Elf origins, I like them the most.

City elf is easily my favourite origin. Of all the origins, mage is my least favourite. Very short and constrained, with a false choice for the PC. Which balances out the mage class, I suppose, as it is very powerful.
