There usually is a local
SEARCH and it "sort-of"
sometimes works, but when it
doesn't, or is missing, you
*can* still access the
archives!

To the latest round of arrivals.

Just add a site: redirector to either Google or Yahoo to have them search in here. ( site:social.bioware.com )

Please don't waste forum space with the same antiquated old questions all over again UNTIL AFTER YOU SEARCH (and don't complain that there is no LOCAL tool). Once you have seen what has already been discussed, if you still have to know more, follow Chris' guide to reporting, or Pacifien's.  It's in the Mass Effect 1 (Technical) forums.  Why it was never posted in DA: O I haven't the slightest (but I had to create a copy of the first one after ME-1 was split off, so it's in my name in there).  Pacifien's version is still pinned on top here.

(I've edited to add this to my quote above, and to include what the redirector's text looks like)  Just add the site redirector to either Google or Yahoo to have them search in here, or Bing, of course.

IMPORTANT.  If you are wasting forum space with one of the same old problems already answered many times, do not "EXPECT" that you will get your own answer.   You question is so boring by now, that it is skipped over.

You do have a point. Ten different people all opening threads with basically the same question for help (EA server borked, can't connect z0mghalp!) is a little overboard.

However... the search on the forums here is... well, not too comprehensive, to say it diplomatically.

Maybe I havn't seen the Advanced search function, but as far as I can see, it only searches thread titles, not posts, and it seems like that's far from reliable too.

It is a terribly restricted bad excuse of a Search that is limited to 51 hits, and prefers to bring back the very oldest 51 it finds.  You can, however, restrict its search to only one particular forum at a time, which is helpful.

Better yet is to create a search in Google that will search its database for the particular forum you want it to look at, in which case you can set up the search however you wish.

My point, however, is not to be so singleminded and waste time on the same stuff over and over and over that even the puny tool that the forum's own search amounts to can handle instead (and FAR FASTER than waiting on a reply, really).  This becomes particularly more useful during times when the forum readership is low, which includes the stateside early hours of the morning, holidays, and weekends.

the search engine in these forums couldn't find its own ass with both hands; it is simply the lamest excuse for a search engine I have EVER seen on the internet. And Bioware has a tendency to shut it off entirely when forums get busy - which is kinda stupid

You have missed the point entirely.  Your complaint belongs in the Web Site Help discussion forum, not in this thread.

I was just commenting on your "optimistic" announcement of a working search engine for these forums.

As for posting a complaint on the Web Site Help forum : roflol !!!!!!!!!!

Right now, because all readership in message forums drops drastically in summer, there are few of the experienced game players who can read the questions and offer useful suggestions on hand.  Most of them have numerous competing interests for their time now.  Add the factor that weekends are even less well-attended in forums, and many of the questions are going to remain unanswered here, so that using a Search, any kind of search, is a far more practical way to learn things than its usual benefit.

(Incidentally, I'm not saying that I have seen what look like a lot of repeat questions this morning.  I am expecting some, that's all.)

The latest new members are definitely on hand in here today, asking those same old, so tired, so often repeated questions, ignoring the stickies on top, and not getting easy answers that opening their eyes just a little and any kind of Search at all would have answered already.

Don't forget the "site:" director for Google.

Incidentally, it should also be noted that if you can't SPELL, you need to write things down so you enter the correct word into the Search, instead of a word that doesn't exist!

Thank you, it might be of some help all right, but the truth is that the intended audience is literally wearing mental blinders over their virtual eyes when they arrive in here, so it seems that periodic bumps are about all we can do to keep the thread alive.

The archives are where the information is, folks.  This no longer a new game, so just about anything that it's possible to happen, has happened (and been added to various FAQs, including those on the official support pages), as well as our stickies in here, so repeats are merely spams, until after a search DOES NOT turn ther needed matches up, after all..

I believe it's already part of the thread, but the Google or Yahoo engine work just fine on the contents of the Social Fprum, just needing a site:social.bioware.com/forum added to the search criteria.

What's so difficult about using a decent Search, rather than the badly broken excuse that is sometimes available within this site?

Take off the blinders, put on your eyeglasses, and take advantage of the resources here, folks.  There isn't anything new to ask any more, I don't think, and the site redirector capability means you can't point at the forum's bas "Search" for any kind of excuse.  Read the stickies, check the archives.

Summer has arrived, and the members have headed outdoors.  Posted answers will be few and far between.  The archives are "where it's at" now.

P. S. There is no excuse for digging in the oldest corners of the graveyard when Google or Yahoo will find the most recent posts, instead of looking for the oldest of them

Similarly, starting new threads about the same old many times repeated thing, including PhysX this time, instead of actually looking at the archives for what they actually tell you, rather than what you think you want them to say . . .

Although I never have responded particularly often to any of the multiples of problems with DLC, especially "authorization", I think that I will boycott any and all such posts from now on. I'm just so tired of those, and because the distribution system for all of it is just so very bad, I will not buy any, myself, so all I could do anyway was point to threads the various repetitive questions had skipped past.

Happy 4th of July, enjoy your picnics, hot dogs, swimming, or just showing off your new bathing suit and retoned body . .

The weekend plus today will mean that the readership (and chances of a message type answer) will remain low through tomorrow, so the archives are where to go.

Although there was no actual holiday yesterday, Monday was very slow, like last week's Monday was. Maybe things will pick up some this afternoon, but the archives continue to offer more potential than writing questions. And do remember, use Google or Yahoo, not the poor mess that the forum calls a "Find".

It's Sunday, it's a weekend, no one is here with answers, or if they are, the questions are just more of the same old stuff that a proper search would already have handled. If you don't see it covered in the FAQ, you should SEARCH. That's the way to get an answer.

Incidentally, just because the forum's own (broken) "Find" keeps dragging out rotted corpses instead of meaningful threads is because it's practically useless, whereas Bing, Google, Yahoo, you name it, all work just fine with or without a site redirector criteria:

site:social.bioware.com

The weekend may be over, but summer is not. The stickies and the archives are still your best bets.

The ME-1 Tech Forum has been mostly dead for almost a month.  The DA2 Tech Forum has been in that condition even longer.  Only the DAO Tech Forum and this one have had new questions coming through lately.  However, it seems as though most of the new arrivals want to use the practically useless "Find" function offered here on the site, instead of Bing, Google, or Yahoo, which is really a pity, since adding a site redirector is just so very, very easy:

As long as the off-season ebb in participation continues (it should be picking up in here soon), the archives and the Stickies are the best places to seek answers. Just ignore the on-site finder and its weird preference for the really oldest, deadest of possible threads.
