So... is anyone else wildly disappointed in this?  It's a collection quest... and an achievement... and its just the same old leather armor with better stats.  I'm not sure  why Bioware seems determined to make all their armor types virtually identical, with differences being re-colors at best, but I'd finally hoped we'd get a special treat with Leliana's song.  But no, same boring crap, different day.  I usually don't speak negatively of their work, but this has royally let me down.

Right here, bud.
Indeed, BioWare keeps disappointing in the armor department. It's like they're not even trying...

Yeah, it was pretty awful. You can find infinitely better looking modded armor with better stats.

To be fair, they put a ton of work into the story and quality. That's infinitely more important than loot, especially when modders are doing such excellent work on that front. The only problem with modded armor is that it's almost always grossly overpowered, but still, I'd much prefer that Bioware spends their time on stories than new armor meshes. This latest DLC resores my faith that they haven't lost interest in the characters from Origins, or the many stories that can still be told. I was getting very close to writing off DLC or expansions altogether.

I'm pretty disappointed with the light armor in general, and the battledress didn't help much. There's a decent variety of cool-looking medium, heavy, and massive armors, but with the exception of the female Dalish armor (which is ridiculously impractical), the light armors all look pretty much the same.

Also, the battledress is a bit overpowered once it's unlocked in DAO. Its only requirement is 20 strength, which is very easy to start the game with at level 1. Powerful unlockables should have high requirements, forcing you to earn the right to use them.

It looks like pretty good light armor to me - especially since you get it for free on any new Origins character. Definitely better than anything you can normally get in the early game. Better than Shadow of the Empire which you can't afford at the beginning. Tell me that you won't put this armor on any Rogue you start off with. Yeah, it's pretty good armor.

I agree that visually, it's nothing to get excited about. Remember that it is armor, not a ball gown.

I agree its pretty lame in appearance looking just like Wades Drakeskin Armor. The worst part is its not even a full set. You don’t get boots or gloves with this thing. Unless I missed something with the fatigue its not exactly something I would want to wear when I can get a full suit of armor that gives me a bonus to fatigue, not a penalty to wear it.

Just like for Mass Effect 2 why should we rely on game mods from other players to make something that BioWare should have done in the first place?

*Taken from my review of Leliana’s Song. *
-Battledress of the Provocateur is kind of nice. To bad it looks exactly like most of the other armor we already get and its only the base armor and not a whole set. Why not make it look like the concept art armor you see her in?

I just goddamn knew it.

They make plethora of new meshes and stuff for ME2, spewing new (paid)armors left and right but couldn't be actually arsed to remake the stuff from Dragon Age trailers.

yeah, I definitely thinks it needs some red in there to stand out. Color is important. Cailan's armor is my favorite armor set even it's the same model as the Juggernaut armor. The gold makes it look cool.

The light armor that Leliana wears in the Sacred Ashes trailer would have been nice: images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100625220410/dragonage/images/c/cd/Lelianassong.jpg

I think they should have added a new bow or another dagger too. you get more stuff in Return to Ostagar and that costs less

I think the idea is to inspire modders to come with more inpressive items... I love the title more than the gear itself ...

The heavy armors suffer from the same-ness as well, but they actually bothered to do slightly different looks for the various types. Leather is leather is leather. There are, what, two different leather types, and the dalish. That's it. At least the unique heavy/massive armors get a couple of uniques. Thank God I buy PC editions, so I can use 3rd party mods. But still, as Avalla'ch said, they can crank out a new armor every few months for ME2, but DA continues looking like a poor cousin. The only original looking armor in the game is the Knight-Commander's armor (DLC) and Blood Knight armor (pre-order bonus). How sad is that?

I was really really hoping they'd use that as skin for the armour. Loved the DLC but no unique skin for the leather armour was a huge disappointment to me.

I understand  resource restricitions but light armour needed some skin variance really badly. I'd even have been fine if they only made a female version restricted to lelianne only.  (whihc would have used less resources)

DLC: Great - Light armour skin:  Epic Failure

The DLC was great enough to where I didn't care about the armor. Besides, she shouldn't be wearing anything but the devout armor anyways.

Yeah I hope in DA:2 items get an overhaul I don't mind tier items being bland, but codex and named gear should have some uniqueness to it.

When I read it "Battledress of the Provacteur" I was thinking maybe this is her concept art armor since Morrigan has her's basically in her robes and robes of possession, but nope we get standard leather armor. That and recycling Marjolaine's voice for Dorathea are the only complaints I have of the DLC.

I was really quite sad and disappointed to see that it was not of unique design... especially since I think the light-colored studded armor is ugly.... :(

Worst. Reason. Ever.

Now you will start telling me that the the Bioware DA studio is too poor to afford making a simple mesh.
It's not like they will be animating and adding horses to the game which would cost much more.:wizard:

@Barachiel

Heh and you know what's even a bigger paradox?

That looks a lot like the Warden Commander armor you get from Sophia at Soldier's Peak.

The only thing that resembles the armor is the griffon emblem slapped on the chest(and it's even oversized). Otherwise, it's the same retextured massive armor mesh like everything else.

And my god it has purple pauldrons baaaaaaaaaaaw!:o

This is why I love moddable games. The community succeeds where the devs fail.

Don't forget, it's not Bioware who is lazy. It's EA who wants so much money they have to push unfinished products.

I was dissapointed with it aswell same old model and worse stats than felon's coat (ok good for an archer for the +50 stamina).I get that it's great because you have it from the start but all my playthroughs are almost finished

but I heard in awakening it scales to tier 9 so I'll use it with wolfethreads and slippery ferret's gloves since the blackblade set is incomplete

Especially with the modded armor that's around, I sure wouldn't.  The studded leather armor is just butt-ugly.
