Indeed. The light armours in this game just generally suck. I'm with Barachiel on the Devout/Pious and Armor of the Black Fox. I haven't got the Runic though, I may give it a look.

Lots of nice looking medium armours (that no-one uses, so wasted) and massive armours (for why? there's usually only one tank in your party).

Nice heavy armours are severely limited too, and would be far better than all the massives. Since I only put tanks in massive, it's overkill. And anyway, it just looks utterly ridiculous, in all honesty. Foot soldiers don't wear massive plate armour.

It looks like pretty good light armor to me - especially since you get it for free on any new Origins character. Definitely better than anything you can normally get in the early game. Better than Shadow of the Empire which you can't afford at the beginning. Tell me that you won't put this armor on any Rogue you start off with. Yeah, it's pretty good armor.
I agree that visually, it's nothing to get excited about. Remember that it is armor, not a ball gown.

While I agree with your logic I don't agree with the context. This is a fantasy game and as such I would have expected a certain amount of artistic licence. The armours do not deliver on this; some modders have done a better job. This is one thing that, while I can pass it over, should have been given a bit more thought. Aesthetics are as important as story or romances or whatever.

Gods. I was so angry. I finally got around to actually playing Leiliana's Song last night, and I felt a sense of achievement when I got the last piece of the armour.

Then I put it on, and I thought my game was bugged, cause the only thing about her appearance that changed was the colour of her armour. Gah.

Even though this topic is six months old, I still wanted to comment on the issue being discussed. Before the arrival of mods and patches, the general rule of thumbs was - 'If what is inside the box does not match what is advertised (package design, ad design, commercial, etc...), you have a right as an consumer to demand a full refund. Or, you can just turn the company into the BBB for fraud.' Since game and entertainment stores do not give out refunds for software, consumer rights are lost due to strict policies in regards to said products.

Now, lets play out the devil's advocate scenario for a moment. As a result of being protected by store policies, game companies are able to keep their money regardless. Other words, even though you may be a dissatisfied customer, you can not teach them a lesson by returning your purchased item. Its a win-win for game developers and publishers.

Now, if I go by what was in the online advertisement, the outfit seen in the "Leliana's Song" video would be called 'Battledress of the Provocateur'. Other words, we didn't get what was being advertised.

Finally, regardless about how people spin this whole mess, BioWare was bought and now owned by Electronic Arts. BioWare is now a brand (a branch) of Electronic Arts. Same company, different office. They are both responsible for this mess.

(If a game developer or publisher is relying on modders, to enhance their games, they are not holding themselves up to higher standards in product quality. Obsidian Entertainment is a shinning example of such failure. I am very suprised that BioWare would fall to such lazy standards.)

It is crap, that the special items you get are the same tired, uninspired models. When you look at the array of modded armor that you can download, and consider it was created by relative amateurs doing it with far fewer resources and personnel than the developers have, then it is hard to excuse the less than inspiring loot you get. I mean, if these items are supposed to be so unusual and special, I'd expect them to look that way, not resemble the same crap you can pick up anywhere and everywhere in game.

Modders create awesome and very well done models that fit well into the game, and they do it in their spare time. They aren't like the developers, who are getting paid to do so. They have jobs, school, family, friends, and lives of their own to deal with, yet somehow, they have really outdone the developers in creating vidually interesting and artistic models for characters, weapons, clothing, and armor. All on their own time, and not getting paid to do so.

Not to mention that these same people use their free time to fix the numerous bugs and gameplay failings that Bioware seems incapable of doing within a reasonable time frame. I can not express enough love for the many modders out there, who have not only vastly improved the game, but in some cases, made it playable in the first place.

I'll third this. Compare the Phoenix Armory sets with the in game armour. The only reason my characters don't all live in Phoenix armour is that it's overpowered. It is seriously good looking however.

Yes, I have to say that some of the modders are more talented than the developers and should be paid for their work. I'd happily pay for better in game play and armors/weapons.

My player wear phoenix armor because I play for fun, don't really care about over powering weapons/armor or getting as close to vanilla as possible.  Gaming, for me, is a break from real life.  Now mind you, my home life is very pleasant but I work in engineering and after dealing with messes all day long, I want to come home and relax.  Gaming relaxes me.

You can wipe the phoenix armor stats off with the Winter Forge, and give it less over powered stats. it's what i do, as it is the look of the armor I like alot. Same with the mage robe mods I use.

the Winter Forge: another great mod! I always still use the overide mode, and use the forge to upgrade things like Family sword, warden's oath, ect. As well as customizing desirable armors with more realistic, balanced stats.

I may have to give the Winterforge another try. I had it for a while, but it borked my game and I wound up removing it.

I like it fine, though it appears like other extant armors. As long as it does not match the hats and caps, I am good.....

I don't know which version you were using, but the latest version, which is Awakening compatible, worked fine without problems once I installed it. I also ignore the whole collecting of reagents bit, and just use the override toolset and add or modify stats as they are. Of course, doing such does require a fair amount of discipline to keep from over-enchanting an item into something gamebreaking.

but it is amongst my top 5 mods I would never again play the game without. The others being qwinn's fixpack, pineapple trees vibrant colors, advanced quickbar, and camp storage chest.

Just because it's functional doesn't mean it can't look good as well, given that it's called the Battledress of the Provocateur I was expecting something a bit more sexy. or is that just me being a teenage male?

Well its good for a nice 3 gold at the beginning of the game.

And Morrigans the only that gets her own special armor/clothing.... and her own special hair.

It doesn't have to be spectacularly unique to be different. I mean, the differences between the Effort, Warden Commander, Juggernaut, Cailan's,and Wade's Dragonbone massive armor sets are distinctive enough to be different and instantly recognizable without being a unique model like Duncan's armor. Battledress, on the other hand, looks more or less exactly the same as a generic Tier 7 studded leather suit.

I was also very disappointed when it turned out to be just a recolor of the common leather armor. It looked exactly the same as what she was wearing before.
This is what it should have looked like, thank goodness for the modding community:
social.bioware.com/project/3023/

Also related, I expected her to look more like in the Sacred Ashes trailer, still being younger and innocent and all, given that the promotional pics and even the in-game icon for launching LS had her with the "true red" red hair, bright blue eyes and heavier grey-blue make-up. They used promotional pics for it that made the main character of the DLC look completely different than they actually do in the DLC... misleading advertisment/promotion, anyone?

I'm pretty much with everyone here. It's just another piece of studded leather armor with some extra stats attached. It makes for a decent piece of armor for my warrior characters early on, but I don't usually give my rogues much strength, and only archers would make much use from the stamina boost.  At least they could have given it a different color than the same usual purple.
