The way the conversations were done.
The lack of any meaty interparty interaction.
The lack of romance.
The story just felt like it didnt have a pulse to me.
Yes I played it all the way through and in my opinion it is the single worst product Bioware has put out.

So, even with the difficulty being way too low, Awakening might actually be worthwhile for PC.
For PS2, where you can't take advantage of mods etc...I think it's apparent from the responses above and in other places: Your Mileage May Vary. Some folks liked Origins and hated Awakening, particularly the changes to dialogue and romance.
EDIT: Fixed one item above that made no sense (Awakening powers in Awakening? ZOMG!) Let me further state:
No, even after 1.04 I can't recommend Awakening--it's okay if you really love DA, but it's still overpriced even at $28 for the PC version on amazon.com. If you can find it for $20 or less consider it. Otherwise, there's too high a probability that the bugs, the changes to companion dialogue/romance, or the complete lack of game balance will simply drive you batty.

The whole game I felt really rushed. If felt like I got 3-4 hours out of it. I just found all the characters for my "team" and I'm at the final battle. So much for an RPG.
There was a ton of stuff added, but I never had a chance to make any of the new craftables, either through a special crafter or use of the new rune crafting talents. I barely used any runes at all... the game was that easy....
This "expansion" is what I would expect a $10 DLC to be. But as long as people keep buying garbage for $10 that lasts 10-15 minutes, were gonna keep getting spoon fed crap.

My friend did however buy it and i got to play it at this place. Overall the game feel like someone was standing behind some poor bioware devs with a whip forcing them to push a game out ASAP.
*Low content for the price
*Coversation system O.o
*No real "flow" with the origins story...
*The areas and locations was average at best.
That dont mean its a horrible game or anything. Its "average" play it if you dont have anything to play if you dont play it you wont miss out on anything.

Problems.
-Bugs and more bugs. Not sure if they have fixed them all yet for all versions but there are some really bad ones.
-Reusing the same map for the surface locations and random encounters. That’s no joke. You will see the exact same farm with the windmill on the hill for at least 2 quest locations and all random encounters.
-The so called city of Amaranthine is nothing more than a castle in size and not a very big one at that. The town of Lothering map was probably bigger.
-Forced to do things in a certain order or you wont be able to finish at least one quest. In my play through: if you go to Blackmarsh before going to Kal'Hirol you wont be able to make a companion a full Grey Warden if these are the last quests (before the final battle run) you do.
-Runecrafting is a royal pain to do for such a short game.
-You will need to play the game more than a few times to really get to know your new companions since again the game is again to short.
-The main plot/story itself will likely leave you scratching your head and going “huh?” since it really makes no sense, resolves nothing and leaves you with more questions than answers by the time the game ends.
-No support for this game. No word on any downloadable content for it yet.
-It is not really an expansion but a separate game. This could explain its high price but not the short gameplay time. For an example of a true expansion look at Oblivion’s Shivering Isles.
-Giving gifts to earn loyalty is pointless since loyalty really has no meaning or use like it had in Origins. Oghren’s loyalty is set back to the default 0 regardless of how high or low it was in your Origins (import Warden) game.
-Questionable conflicts from what happens in Origins like the use of the Crows (cant say the details due to spoilers) was one that stood out for me.
About the only good things…
-The final quests/battles options and outcomes
-New spells, specializations, talents and equipment. (wish they could be used in Origins)
-Seeing new locations as few as they are.
-The companions you get are as good as the Origins group.
-The story is pretty good even if it is kind of messed up.

Well I heard bad things about this game Awakening. I liked Dragon Age Origins but will i like Awakening? Is the story and characters better? Also why is Ograhen the dwarf the only old character to reappear? Is there a reason for this? Also when does Dragon Age Origins 2 come out? Also how much does Awakening cost on Playstation 3? Thanks if you can answer!
Bugs aside(and there are lots of them) i did not like awakening at all. I felt it was a complete waste of $40. My playthrough was only 12 hours long. According to what I have read, I did pretty much everything offered.
The companions were vapid and even annoying at times. I found myself just making a party that did not get on my nerves as making a party I could enjoy was simply not possible. The conversation system has changed, and not for the better IMO, and there are no relationships with companions. Overall, it just "feels" like a rushed sub-par product.
Ultimately, this is simply my opinion, but Awakeining is a complete waste of money. One thing everyone seems to agree about is that it is overpriced at $40. If you are looking to delve into Awakening, try to find it on sale for like $20 or something.

Even if awakenig was playable (wich is not), the story is really poor and incredibly unlinked to origins story. No reference of what you did in origins will be reported in awakening, and the charcather you encountered in origins will disappear with no reason, you only get oghren (who is really annoying in my opinion).
So do yourself a favor, save your money and don't ruin your DA:O experience. DON'T BUY AWAKENING and play origins with patch 1.02a.

Not getting this, not before they have lowered the price 300%, which I guess is never, their loss.

The characters were not very well fleshed out. It was possible to go from Zero to 100 approval with some gifts and the conversations right after getting a character. I mean, I got Justice from Zero to 100 really quickly and there was nothing at all I could do in the game after I got him except move on to the final scenes. The side quests for the companions were not very interesting.
Even the likable characters you end up not feeling that close to, because you really don't know all that much about them. They are more character concepts than full personalities like the DA:O Companions were.
The story was okay, nothing as compelling as the story in DA:O. You never really need to revisit any of the world map areas except the Keep and the City, and sometimes the game felt "choppy" in a way. Like the story wasn't really flowing nearly as smoothly as DA:O. I really felt no real compelling reason to be doing some of what I was doing.
The bugs were annoying. I started my Awakenings before the patch and had to be glued to Wiki the entire time because with the bugs, you had to play a *very* specific way to not get your game ruined. Hopefully this was mostly fixed now, but it ruined immersion to have to jump out of the game to make sure I didn't do something that ruined a character, or made me lose gear from my inventory, or prevented me from starting a Companion quest.
My character's epilogue conflicted with my Epilogue from DA:O also, so I really am not sure if the expansion is canon or just something to do.

Is it worth the price? I don't know, but I do know that I didn't throw the controller down in disgust and walk away.

So, as an expansion it's good in my opinion, but the problem is that it doesn't really feel like an expansion, it feels more like a full game, with minor connections(won't mention them, spoilers you know) to the main game. The problem lies in this very fact, it's an expansion in length and depth, but a full game as to setting and story and environment, in my opinion.
But I still liked it, probably because I love the action and that is something that is really good in this game. The role-playing aspect of DA:O was something I really enjoyed, without it being the essential part for me, and that's why I'm not that bummed out of the shallowness in Awakenings.
It depends on you, if you like the action and the extra skills and abilities, sure, go for it, but if you are more into the deep characters and long conversations, stay away.

So I'd highly reccomend the game to anyone who played the original, its really awesome, lots of great adventures, some great new characters, and just tons and tons of fun. It was also much, much longer than I was expecting based on the reviews. So definitely expect to get your money's worth, and have a lot of fun, playing Awakenings! I know I sure did, and that's just from one playthrough so far!

Awakenings was fantastic.
Dude, I'll trade you copies, because we clearly didn't play the same version.
Too short, too buggy, too uninspired and overpriced.

CONS: Pretty short (took me 15 hrs as opposed to DAO's 60) - Bugs(However for PC they are patchable. If not on PC, expect them) - No romances - Less places to travel to - Oghren....XP

I was surprised by how good Awakenings is, having heard all the negative reviews. I decided to give it a fair chance, and I was pretty much blown away, it's just awesome. Its even better than the original in one way, that way being that you not only get to continue your regularly scheduled adventuring, but from time to time you get to take a break from that and you get to be a ruler, and make important decisions as sort of like the king or queen of the land. Its really, really cool. The characters were overall pretty good, aside from the fact that bringing back Oghren as your one continuing party member was horrible, I'd have much much MUCH rather have had Leliana. But some of the new characters are pretty cool, especially Sigrun. She's got the best voice in game, and the most fun, upbeat personality. She'd have made a great romancable character in the Main game.
I'm still playing it, but I have the same impressions. I'm really surprised by the negativity. Maybe people were expecting too much? I don't know, but I'm pleasantly surprised anyway.

I also thought it could have been done completely without the Architect, who really makes no sense unless you read the associated book.
One major plus: Bioware outdid themselves with the environments in Awakening. Absolutely gorgeous work!!

I enjoyed it, and see no reason why not to get it. Sure, Origins was better but people need to remember it's a freaking expansion, not a new game. I also didn't suffer with any bugs, but many people say they do, so I don't know. I also agree the price is a bit high, but if you have the money for it... just get it, it's fun.
Maby not, but as it stands, the cost is the same or even larger if to buy the expansion.
Il play Origins and then try Dragon age 2 tbh, don't think Il spend any money on the expansion.
