If you beat it on Insanity which class did you use?

Made a bit more challenging by a self-imposed condition that whenever the game gave a choice to go on to the next mission or keep building my team, I went straight to the next big thing. Which, while I didn't quite intend it as such, is very appropriate for the Vanguard's combat style. On the other hand, it meant that there are entire major locations Shepard hasn't yet visited (or bought weapon/armor upgrades from), and potential squadmates as well as friends from the first game still waiting for her to check in. But the mission comes first, right?
(I had also initially been planning her to have a somewhat different relationship with our patron organization for this game... but then Overlord came out. :-) )
Because of the lack of upgrades, though (and because my own skills aren't top-flight), the sort of Always Be Charging strategy a lot of the guides recommend didn't work well for me. I wound up using Reave as a bonus power, and dividing my tactics between highly mobile with frequent charges and, against more durable bosses, using cover, Reave, and the Locust or Carnifex to whittle things down.
(Though I surprised myself by using Charge a lot in a big multi-Scion fight, albeit combined with a lot of running like a bunny. :-) )
For fighting from a distance, a few widely scattered weak enemies were a godsend when something powerful was on the battlefield, as a means to quickly get out of Dodge and start attacking from a different direction. Squadmates with Combat Drone were also great for keeping big things occupied while getting rid of the small fry. I also picked up Squad Cryo based on recommendations on the board, and I have to admit it was useful.
Also, something I didn't realize till this playthrough: just because a power says that a target is protected from it, that doesn't mean that power won't do any damage. (They may do less, but if your squadmate isn't doing anything else, you might as well have them fire it off.)

Alright this thread is for those of us who beat the game on the Insanity difficulty,i want to know which class did you use and if you used an strategy.Personally i used the soldier class overall i think is the one best fit for such difficulty and the adrenaline rush can be very useful in bad situations, but thats just my opinion also if any of u beat it using the adept, tell bioware to give you a free armor you deserved it![]()
i used a fresh character soldier class and my tactic for insanity was soon as i lost my shields hit fortification i blazed through the game doing this. i had fortification hotkey to 4 so i just pressed 4 everytime i lost my shields 99% of the time i do it so quickly i dont lose any health. it was a great tactic for shooting harbinger with an assault rifle. just spam the assualt rifle while standing my ground and hitting fortification. even the end boss fight is alot easier when doing this.

Fast forward 3 months, I'm contemplating a Soldier or Adept insanity run.

You know, I found myself in the same position. I played a vanguard twice, and when I used a different class, the game felt much less exciting.Pocketgb wrote...
First playthrough on Insanity starting
at level 1 was a Soldier. Newgame+ was with Soldier was well. Both were
pretty fun. Then I did a lvl 1 playthrough with a Vanguard and it was
massively more satisfying.

Which of the two is more enjoyable? since you guys have been pretty thorough with your playthroughs. (I'm only posting this here because I can't post in the class/builds forum)

Every other class however, made me want to break things when on the collector ship.

I expected it to be super-tough like I kept hearing, but it wasn't; I don't know what they were talking about. I mean, it was hard, but its not impossible or mind-numbingly difficult or anything like that. It was really fun (to be fair, most of the people who said it was super hard said it was fun too). It's an interesting class and is totally didn't from any of the other classes' playstyles. With the other classes, playstyle is based around power usages/strip defenses/combine powers and weapon usage/taking cover. But with the Vanguard, you don't need to take cover and slowly work forward, you can just skip around and make a long fight short. If you ever tire of taking cover in long fights, be a Vanguard.
Strategy:
Heavy charge is your bread and butter (obviously).
Squad cryo ammo is super helpful. I didn't think of it being a heavy-lifter at first, but allies freeze enemies and take some fire off you when Charge is recharging.
Bonus power: warp ammo (felt appropriate and didn't want to use Reave since I was Charging all the time and time is of the essence).
Passive skill tree: Champion (lower cool-down is a must).
Best tip: be aggressive, it is a must for this class (like fighter pilots and their confidence). And don't be afraid of taking risks, sometimes these risks save you.
Weapon choice on Collector Ship: Claymore Shotgun. Love this thing. This shotgun was made for the Vanguard due to its huge power but short range (Charge fixes that). Plus, the reload trick is useful (I don't really use it, mostly because its a pain to do right all the time... for me).
But this class can be flexible. I've seen vids of people using a Vanguard with the Eviscerator and Viper Sniper Rifle and be just as effective as other builds.
I've done Insanity with an Infiltrator/Widow and that was fun (love that sniper rifle!) but my Vanguard playthrough edges it out in funness.

Also for those who used the soldier class, how useful did you found the special ammos?I tell you one thing i found the incineration ammo pretty useful.
I found warp ammo to be pretty good myself.. Double damage against targets being hit with biotic powers and i always had Jacob in my team

i beat insanity like infinity million times with an infiltrator. i think it works very well for insanity. i also beat it once with a sentinel. i dont think adept should be *that* hard. vanguard is probably the toughest.
My first try was with a sentinal, its easiest to import an me1 character because you get minerals and credits. I used a soldier and armor piercing ammo (group mode chosen when I upgraded it) it destroys collectors.
dont use your character you beat me2 with already then at the start of the game you will have no wep upgrades and be level 30 so your enemies will be level 35 and by the time you start horizon you will hate life.
I have heard soldier, infilitrator and the sentinal
