I used the Engineer class. The I used the tech drones to distract and harm enemies while I attacked the others with powers (and of course shooting). This class is more tactics, since you could disable or harm particular enemies in certain ways and you don't have many weapons to use. Another technique I used was controlling my teammates by choosing their targets and moving them to different certain of a battle. This helped a lot, especially on the Omega-4 mission (when I did so the most).

In order from first insanity attempt to last:



Caster Sentinel

Widow Soldier

NG+ CQC infiltrator

Assault Sentinel

Engineer

Revenant Soldier

NG+ Adept



The hardest was the first sentinel run through, as getting used to insanity takes a while. after that would be NG+ adept, but only because:

- I chose to do purgatory straightup

- I played really aggresively.

- I imported an ME1 shepard that i'd played with on normal, so I had maxed out throw field and pull field, and only level 2 singularity. and couldn't change it until post horizon.

easiest was Widow soldier and the assault sentinel.

Probably had the most fun with CQC infiltrator and Adept towards the middle/ end of the run.

Sentinel, Infiltrator and Engineer. Infiltrator was by far the easiest... Cloak is insanely useful. You can advance quickly without anyone shooting at you, sometimes stopping further enemy spawns.

I used an Infiltrator; tough in the beginning, but once you get the Widow and clear the Collector Ship, the game is pretty much over.

I must not be playing infiltrator right, all I see here are success stories. I try to manage between the widow, cryo pistols and cloaking to push forward like I've seen in videos from these forums, any time I try to push forward and try to get something going, a hail of bullets kill me from my blindside... sigh

I did a Soldier on insanity first. Then I did Vanguard. I figured Vanguard would be the most difficult because I tried it on  normal before and charge was, as someone else said, a quick suicide. So I decided to get Vanguard out of the way. At the start of my Vanguard insanity run, I used charge very little. Mostly to finish off the last 1 or  2 guys. But got more agressive towards the end. I'll probably play Vanguard on insanity again, but try to be more agressive from the start.

I'm almost finish with an Infiltrator run, just have 1 or 2 missions left, but got sidetrack starting an Engineer insanity run. Engineers are funny. They can get killed easily, but the drone takes away some of the biggest enemies. You end up mostly shooting them in the back. And seeing guys with missles kill themselves with splash damage never gets old.

then I played as an adept, just spammed warp and energy drain, it was not that hard actually

Found ME2 to be much more difficult.

So far it seems that the easiest way to do this is using the engineer,hey those of you who havent beat it yet on insanity and are planning too take note of the tips every single person here has given you, they will be very useful for you

I thought I beat it on insanity as an adept, but for some reason I didn't get the achievement. I have no idea what I did wrong, but I'm prepping for a sentinel runthrough.

Ridiculously tough because Charge only works when you can exploit it. Otherwise, its a suicide button.

Hehe, suicide button, so true, charging a YMIR Mech (thing) by accident, good times, very good times

But I like this thread, as I am stuck on Freedom's Progress with Insanity (Infiltraitor), really trying to find some way to get this to work.
