Apologies if this is in the wrong section, I did not see an off topic area.

I just recently started playing ME1/ME2 last week, and I discovered there are several books.  My mother can't handle playing the "first person shooter" type games, and can't (and won't) watch me play.  She's a sci-fi nut and I know she'd love the storyline of this game.

I've read the synopsis of each book, but I'm not sure if the books would make sense to her if they're "out of context." My question is then, are the books stand-alone, or just supplementals to the game?  If they are stand-alone, do they have the same riviting climaxes as the game? (The Council dying (or living), the Citadel being destroyed, etc...)  Or is it all simply backstory that my mom would never be able to fully appreciate?

Thanks for any input.

/cheers

i think they're stand alone i read the prologue of ascension and it left out many details for the game like consul statius

The first one (Revelation) is definitely stand alone (in fact it takes place long before ME1.

The second (Ascension) takes place in the time between ME1 and ME2. It makes some references to the games but I think it should be possible to understand it without having played either game.

I liked them both (especially Revelation)

Both books center around a character who's not in either game, and as such they're fine to be read separate to playing the games. However, the end of Revelation does assume that you have or will play the game (It ends on a sort of cliffhanger), although I can't remember if Ascension refers to what happened.

I wouldn't recommend them to someone that doesn't play the games

Revelation ends on a cliff hanger that is continued in ME1

Ascension starts with ME1's ending and assumes you know what happened in the game

However, the central plots of the books are not connected to the games plot
