There was next to nothing for the hardcore and RPG gamers at E3......most of E3.....like 99.999999% was undiluted garbage like motion controlls and more sequels to long dead franchises like Zelda and other similar crap. There was the new Deus EX, AC: B, F: NV and TOR that looked half decent.....the rest was worthless garbage.....THAT was their moment to shine. They could have taken most of the E3 awards just by saying that DA2 is in development and show a couple of pictures of crappy concept art with nothing else. There was literally nothing interesting to compete with them.bronxchulo wrote...
If it is DA 2, like most of us are thinking, I kinda can see why they might not have wanted to announce it at E3. Bioware might have thought there was going to be too many things to over shadow the announcement, that they figured they might be better off doing it later.
I mean lets face it, most stuff was announced at E3, so gaming news has been kinda dull lately (at least in my opinion). If they are announcing it tomorrow then gamers, and gaming sites would be looking for something good to talk about, and follow up with Dev interviews and stuff.
Just a thought.....
Bioware MIGHT have thought there was going to be a lot of other things that would have over shadowed them. Just because E3 ended up with no announcements about RPG's and such, Bioware didn't know that.
It's their game and they can choose to announce it whenever they want. I mean look at yourself. This "upcoming" announcement already has you talking, regardless if it is you saying they should have said something at E3.

I had bought Awakening when it first came out but only just the other day finally decided to play the game. So far i have not had any issues with the game, like a lot of people have claimed it being unplayable and things.
Also, unlike others, im enjoying the story and gameplay. Im maybe 10 hours (could be less) into Awakening and enjoying it a lot.

The fact DA2 is in development isn't news and there are far better places to reveal it at this year like ComicCon or another such large show.
If you ignore the advantages of releasing information at a time and place where hype won't be diminished simply due to the volume of other competing pieces of information.
Edit:
Wait I'm going to Comic-Con this year.
Bioware hold off on any announcements you make until then.
I need me some announcement swag.

The thing is that announcing something when nobody expects it leaves it with a much smaller audience....forum posters, hardcore gamers that keep up with the news and such but the game needs a lot more attention to produce massive sales so the divided attention of millions is a lot better in that respect. It creates word of mouth hype and expands the audience far beyond the hardcore fans that find out anyway regardless of where and when the announcement is made.

Not expecting it? I suppose a several gaming sites spreading rumors like wild fire doesn't count?
Anyways, I've learned from BioWare's last "epic" announcement not to expect much of anything when they tell us we should get excited.

I haven't bought Awakening yet because my base game can't even run on the most recent "patch" so I don't expect an epansion to. No point in wasting money on a game I can't even play...bronxchulo wrote...

There was a post in the E3 thread here that was explaining why this isn't the case for some companies. Most of the games actually announced at E3 are made by Eastern companies, which apparently have smaller advertising budgets, and rely a lot on Trade Shows for marketing.

Not really.....the websites only reach hardcore gamers of many genres(shooters, racing RPG...etc) and tastes so only a small faction will be really be interested in DAO. These are the people that will find out about the game no matter if you announce it on an isolate island with just one witness......so not much is gained there. Their goal is to reach much larger audiences and inform the more casual RPG gamer that usually find out about games when they see them on store shelves....the ones that don't read the gaming news and blogs.....these are the ones they want hyped and these are the ones that generate millions of sales as opposed to a few hundred thousand sales.

People are extremely skeptical about Obsidian's ability to deliver New Vegas and Deus Ex is completely unknown to console gamers and that's who E3 was for so DA2 could have just watzed in there pawned them like they didn't even exist.
The Twilight Princess for the Wii is not that old.
And Spirit Tracks and The Phantom Hour Glass are out too for ds, and are not that old.

And how is this relevant to BioWare and EA? EA has its own press conference and sure doesn't lack the budget....they had a 1.5 minute trailer of ME2 during the superbowl playoffs in early 2010.....do you know how insanely expensive that is? Plus BioWare has some of the most anticipated and acclaimed games so the interest of the E3 audience is just about guaranted. Sure the small budget developers with crappy games will sink like rocks because quite frankly they suck and nobody really cares......gamers watch E3 to see what big companies like Sony, Microsoft, EA and BioWare are doing so newcomers aren't too likely to be noticed much but this has no relevance on BioWare and EA.

And a gaming event covered solely by these same people and sites who only attract the "hard core" gamers are different how?

Solely by these same people? What are you blind? Did you fail to notic the armadas of casual gamers, soccer moms and teens that flocked E3? The videos are all over the place. These are the ones that DON'T read the gaming newn on a daily basis and don't read the blogs and all the rest of it. E3 has a signifficantly larger audience on top of the hardcore gamers.

So what other media outlets cover E3 aside from the various gaming sites, you know the ones no one other then the "hard cores" pay attention to, that get this information to all these casual people like soccer moms, teens, ect.

More sites cover E3 than the average announcement and during E3 the sites are watched a lot more closely by signifficantly more than the just the hardcore gamers. Think of it like church.....go to church during the week and only the most devoted are there but go on a sunday and you have all sorts of people who aren't all that much into religion. The handful that are there every day will always find out what's going on with the church regardless but all the sunday crowd won't unless you announce it on a sunday.

Also, E3 isn't the only fair - gamescom in August is another major games fair.

Blizzard wasn't present at E3 either, they simply don't need to. SC2 or D3 get enough media coverage without, Blizzard just creates their own events to announce big news.

E3 is mostly dominated by console developers and its primary audience is the console gamers.....so going there with PC exclussives is a big waste of time. DAO on the other hand had massive sales on consoles so they'd WANT to have the attention of that crowd.

Frankly,a second installment announcement
of a game which has been released less than a year is not that "great
news" to me.
Well, Dragon Age was finished awhile before it was actually released. The PC version was delayed nearly a year, iirc, so it would launch simultaneously with the console versions.
Not expecting anything, but all signs point to Dragon Age 2. EA officially confirmed it today, the new GI sometime this week is supposed to have info on a "new RPG that wasn't shown at E3", and of course, 2morrow.
