Hi, so I've just gotten the option to do Alistair's side quest, now i've heard at the end of this quest you can "harden him", and I've heard that this makes him easier to persuade him to be king (the game guide says that), besides that though, the guide is decidedly unhelpful.  So what exactly does this do? how exactly does it change him?  is he still the likeable person he was? or does he become more arrogant?  And just how hard is it to persuade him to become king without hardening anyway? it is worth it to do it?

He is still quite likeable. He seems less whiny too. He actually thanked me for helping him learn that lesson!

Just be very harsh and terrible on Alistair after the Goldanna event. Berate him for his naiveté. He doesn't whine as much and he's more confident.
